With another quick glance at Atyvn, Renaria took a single step forward. Her eyes narrowed as she focused on the area she had sensed movement. She tipped her head back slightly and inhaled, a deep gulp of air rushing through her nose. It was laced with the stench of wolf.
She tried to block out the nagging feeling in her mind. It wasn’t her, it was Atyvn. Something was troubling him about the hunt. No, it was the place. Perhaps he was just uneasy about what could happen. That must be it. Renaria hunkered down, tail flicking out behind her. She took another step, her paws practically silent as they hit the snow.
She stumbled.
Out of nowhere, fear had enveloped her mind. Atyvn had seen the wolf and something had triggered in him. Whatever it was, it had shot straight through the bond to Renaria. The feeling of fear emanating from him was so strong that she could barely think straight. She struggled against it, but until Atyvn calmed himself down it was all she could do to stop herself tearing from the clearing.
Not even a second had passed since she had slipped. A deep growl sounded through the trees opposite. The wolf lurking there had obviously been alerted by her mistake. She back-stepped quickly to stand beside her Bondmate, her shoulder leaning on him. He had to calm down, he had to loose the fear or else neither of them would get out unscathed.
