The air was still warm, the summer heat had yet to lose its intensity. Risa rowed ashore with Fala on the ship's siding and with Sibir, a large but older Moontide man sent with Risa to 'help her with picking the fruit' but mainly to keep the overconfident girl safer. My mother worries so. The island ahead was a large fruit bearing island, and the older pod members say they had stopped here before, but only briefly. Of the tons of islands dotting the Suvan Sea, Risa found it hard to believe that they could remember some unremarkable island, filled more with rocks than trees.

Carrying a long basket Risa ran towards the beach before the rowboat was even beached itself. He long skirt got soaked around the legs, but Risa and Fala hurried about their task, immediately pulling the orb-like fruit from the small green trees with wild abandon. The sand was turbulent beneath her toes, less firm from the recent tide, but the soft vibrations were comforting. Sibir finally caught up to her, quickly speaking to slow Risa's chaotic harvesting.

"
Now Risa," he began, trying to capture the girl's interest, "What you're picking right now are the sea grapes. They're just beginning to bloom so you have to make sure to leave the green ones, let the land have them." Risa looked curiously at the tree, noting the color difference. "And what about those?" she asked, indicating the other leafy tree filled with big colorful fruit, ranging from green to yellow to orange to red. "Mango. It's the same color concept with that."

"
I got it!" Risa exclaimed and went to work. Sibir moved over beside her and began picking fruit into his own basket. Risa's pace was quicker, though, and she soon emptied her basket, grabbed another, and moved off down the beach, Fala following from the sky.

After over an hour of picking the various fruit Risa noticed the smoke of a fire in the distance, through the brush and rocky juttings. She looked back at Sibir, who was still working on his side, picking an assortment of different fruit. She grinned at Fala. "
Let's go find out what that is." Fala swooped down onto Risa's shoulder and the pair moved in.

After about a half hour of traveling Risa had reached towards the other side of the island at a long clearing. A small shelter had been built, and the fire was merely crackling. Risa had no idea how long ago the fire had been roaring, she didn't know anything about fire. But the searing heat within the logs were alluring, giving patterns of bright red cracking from within, like the surface of the log was bout to be flecked off leaving but the molten center within. Risa sat by the fire, staring into its depths, and lost herself in her thoughts.

(Flashback) The Fruit Above (Elijah)

Postby Elijah Tidalwave on July 19th, 2011, 6:20 pm

ImageHis arm was around a coconut tree and his legs were crossed around it, with a hand reaching for a coconut just close enough to brush his fingertips against it but far away that the risk of falling was increasing with every halfassed attempt to grab it.

Tired yet determined was the look on Elijah's face as he forfeited the match between him and the coconut and was about to chimmy up the tree some more when his eyes caught sight of a Casinor dobbering in the ocean not too far from the furthest side of the island.

Elijah's eyes widened in surprise, it was clearly a Svefra ship, Svefra, a volatile and temperamentful people, his people. This could either be a blessing or a threat. Not knowing what to do he kept staring at the Casinor while hugging the coconut tree before realizing he had to do something. So he started to slide down the tree with care and patience, coconut trees weren't the smoothest and slicing open his limbs at a time like this would be most unwelcome.

As he took his time to climb down he remembered, the fire, he left it burning. Odds are, if someone did came ashore, he/she/they will notice it and come to check it out. Cursing himself in his mind he ploffed the last few feet down onto the soil, picked up his halffilled net and rusty halfspear before making his way towards the campfire in a hurry.

Approaching the campfire and slowing down his pace he peered through the foliage and saw a woman by the fire, it was hard to hell what she looked like and if she was armed or not since he was directly behind her, albeit at a safe distance.

He peered through the leaves of a thick bush for several minutes but the woman made no sign of leaving nor planning on ambushing him. Or maybe the ambush was made and she was the bait, noooooo, can't be, or can it ? Better safe than sorry he thought and opened his net slowly, picked out a good ol' brown, hairy coconut and threw it in an arc to his far left and before it made sound his eyes were already scanning the area for any suspicious movement while his ears were keen on hearing a bowstring being pulled or movement being made.

In a huge anti-climax, nothing happened in the immediate surroundings so he stepped out of the conceiled spot, took a few steps and waved uncomfortably and pretty timidly at the woman while smiling at her and feeling his face turn somewhat red because of his suspicious nature and also because he just wasn't used to being around people.

Risa jumped at the sound of the coconut crashing against a tree nearby. She wasn't sure how long she was just sitting there, just staring at the fire. I'm lucky that fell before Sibir found me, lost in my thoughts like a child... Risa stood up and brushed the dirt from her long green skirt, the shoulders on her top pulling down into her skin as she did so. The ground was harder away from the beach, she wished she had brought sandals. Fala had been flapping around and whistling so even he didn't notice the man creeping up behind them.

Risa looked up at her loyal friend, eyes spotting the clouds above. A storm seemed to be brewing out in the horizon. From the looks of it this was some kind of late summer monsoon approaching. She couldn't tell the timeline for its arrival though; she'd have to ask Sibir for more help with storm spotting when she got back to the beach. Risa was getting thirsty as well. When I get back I am going to eat so much of that fruit. "
Fala!" She exclaimed loudly, "Let's go!"

Risa looked back towards the sea, though she couldn't see her ship from here, and froze wide-eyed at the sudden approach of the stranger. He was taller than her, she noted, looks stronger too. Her mind started trying to plot her next move, whether she should run for the beach or attempt to hide in the trees. This must be his camp... He probably knows this island in and out.

Fala whistled and landed on the stranger's shoulder, the bright bird singing a light tune. It was a little comforting; maybe this man meant her no harm. Risa then looked closer at the man's face, the haggard hair, dark eyes, and flushed cheeks. He looked... lonely? Risa raised one hand in a quick wave.

"
Hi."

Smiling cheerfully, causing tiny rimples to appear around the corners of his eyes, he approached the woman standing by the campfire while talking. The cute bird who had flew down and planted itself on his shoulder chirped excitedly, made him feel more at ease for some reason. Like the bird told him to relax and chill out.

" Hi there, I'm Elijah. "
He said while dropping his halfspear on the dirty soil, the small pieces of gravel, shells and stones made little impact on his leathery feet. He adapted to his type of life afterall. Dropping the net filled with several coconuts next to him he sat down on a rather large red, tattered drape and motioned next to him, to indicate she was free to sit down if she opted to stay.

The smoldering fire had nearly reached the end of its lifespan but fortunately the sun was still handing out rays of light and warmth for the time being, no need to relight it or gather new kindling yet.

" So, what's your name? "
He asked of the young woman whose braided hair shone like red copper, sometimes intense and sometimes borderline hazel. It was a beautiful haircolor to have and Elijah found himself staring at it, he tried not to but nonetheless his eyesight either went blurry in an attempt to look at it from the corners of his eyes or he subconsciously started staring at it again.

Realizing this he became a bit uncomfortable again and started scratching his elbow and coughing a bit, keeping himself busy in a way, to not stare too much at this pretty young lass.

Risa smiled at the man as Fala took off from his shoulder, flying in a circle above the two. Her eyes traced her friend up into the air, but then she glanced back at the tall guy, inviting her to the tarp. Elijah... She repeated the name in her head, trying to force the memory of it. Risa walked over and sat down on the drape as well, her hands tracing the red fabric lightly to feel the broken fabric.

"
Risa... Risa Moontide." Risa grinned at the man, looking into his strange eyes. She'd never seen a color like that, speckled and seeming to change in the light. Risa was the one staring now, tracing the patterns in his eyes. Her hands had stopped their neurotic task as well, and she was clearly lost in her head. She sat silent for a few moments longer.

At last Fala whistled above as a warm breeze blew in, heated from the southern waters. Risa shook her head back and forth for a second and looked around, her face flushing with pink. Her hands returned to their constant movement, this time softly patting music on the ground below. I can't believe I did that again!

"
Sorry... My pod is out to sea, I just came ashore for fruit... Do you live here?" Risa looked up towards the sky again where Fala was rising ever higher from the new under draft. She whistled a quick song and he shifted direction, nearly floating down towards the two.

(Flashback) The Fruit Above (Elijah)

Postby Elijah Tidalwave on July 21st, 2011, 6:47 pm

" Welcome to my, temporary, humble home, Risa Moontide. "

Having answered her question if he lived here in a lighthearted and casual manner, albeit slightly avoiding answering it directly. Elijah didn't really understand why he had done that, maybe it was because he was ashamed of being an outcasted drifter. Or maybe it was because he didn't want to speak in a broken, soft and ashamed tone of voice; Which he feared he would have done if he had answered it directly.

Or maybe it was just coincidence, whichever it was, it was of little important to Elijah right now. His focus was fixated on the relaxed atmosphere with a cheerfully chirping birdy circling above them, providing them with a constant stream of notes. He felt at ease around Risa Moontide, which confused him a bit considering he was almost never at ease around people. Especially not when they appear out of nowhere and are found in his own camp.

He closed his eyes to clear his mind of these thoughts quickly and turned his head towards Risa as he spoke:

" You know, you won't believe me, but I am Svefra too. It's a long story, but the bottomline is; I was borne without blue eyes and I'm sure you know the fate that awaits those newbornes. My pod saved me from that fate and we became outcasts. No hard feelings though, I live life true to myself and that's all that matters really. "

Elijah smiled frequently during his small autobiographical monologue and tried to keep the mood lighthearted. Not even a hint of sadness, pain or shame was shown by him. It was there, that's for damn sure, but life had thoroughly trained him to suck it up and take it like a man. He wasn't about to let it all out now.

" I wonder what it's like though... " He mumbled as he smiled again and threw a tiny shell casually with a flick of his wrist over the sand.

" Anyway, enough about me, tell me about yourself ? "

Risa could smell saltwater in the air here, at least. It was comfortable, much more than the rocky dirt below. She was feeling more at ease with this odd man. And Fala seemed to like him, which definitely helped calm her nerves. Her hands still continued their jittery game among the ground, on their own accord from Risa's absent mind. He was funny as well, seemed really nervous though he tried his best to keep his voice cheery.

The man spoke much quicker, obviously uneasy with talking to someone. Risa couldn't help but smile as he began, trying to calm down his hurried story. His words, however, carried heavier weight than he meant them to. He called himself one of her own, a svefra like her family. The notion toyed around in her head, pushing out the rest of his words, flirting with her understanding. No.

Risa could remember the only time she'd seen a non-Svefra returned to Laviku. The baby looked so... angry. The whole crew agreed, the youngling was not one of us. It didn't belong here so it had to be reclaimed. Same as any ship that threatened us, the baby had been foreign. She didn't understand it at the time, what made this baby so wrong? What could her family see that she couldn't? It wasn't until they made her look into the baby's eyes. The sickly green color was so easily recalled. It was so... wrong. He was not Svefra. And this man is not Svefra.

"
I'm sorry," Risa said, cordially but with a fire burning in her eyes and face, a flush pale of blood coloring her cheeks. She stood up above the man, fists clenched, voice raised but cold, "but you are not one of my brethren. Laviku has abandoned you, and your lonely presence on this island is further proof that He has cursed the ones who saved you." She knew her words to be cruel but could not stop them from flooding, a torrent of anger and pride pulling her tongue. Risa was gnashing her teeth unconsciously, her brow furrowed, "You can never be svefra, Elijah, and claiming you are is an insult to Laviku's wisdom."
oocSorry bout this Elijah, Risa grabbed a stray idea in my head and ran with it

Elijah vaguely summoned a smile on his face as he listened to Risa's fit of rage, he should've known, it wasn't the first time that his words and actions lead to this kind of result.

He was growing weary of this attitude by any and all Svefra he has met up to this day.

" Aye, I guess you're right. Now let me, and my lonely presence on this island, be in peace. I have no need for yet another hating Svefra wanting my blood for what I believe. "

He stood up from the drape to indicate that he was waiting for her leaving.

" Nice to meet you Risa, may the winds steer you in all the right directions. "

He knew he was being cold and possibly even overreacting, but it came as quite a shock to him that even in these warm and friendly Svefra, there is so much hate for him. Made him laugh really.

Risa paused at his dismissive and amused attitude, watching the thin smile on his lips but the weary look in his eyes. This man! He was confusing and made her angry. Everything about his first words had gotten to her, but his new words revealed the source of the anger was not from Elijah alone. He was polite, he was nice even after she yelled at him.

She stood awkwardly for a second, trying to think of her next move. She wanted to storm away and run back to her pod, but her feet were frozen and for some reason she could feel her eyes growing wet. Defiantly all she could was turn away from the man. She didn't know why she was so upset or why the tears had started to run down her cheeks. He's the bad guy here, right?

Fala was silent now, swooping down to perch on her shoulder. Risa tried to stay more silent but felt herself breaking down, like nothing more than an emotional kid. Her hand pet her friend, stroking his long feathers again, but she shut her eyes tight, wanting to just stop the tears and stop herself. She felt miserable.

(Flashback) The Fruit Above (Elijah)

Postby Elijah Tidalwave on July 30th, 2011, 9:54 am

Seeing the impact that his words had on the girl, Elijah felt worse and worse by each second that he was hesitant in comforting her. He wanted to show her that he hadn't meant it in such a bad way, and that he didn't think of her in such a way. All he could do, and all he did actually, was walk up to her small frame turned away from him and place his hands on her shoulders.

He gently turned her to face him and without a word he just hugged her and pressed her crying face against his chest as if his feelings of sorrow and regret could be conveyed that way, wordless. He hoped they would, words would caused these tears to fall and he hoped this language would help them disappear. He wasn't used to being around people and he didn't knew if this behaviour was appropriate or not, but he still remembered the feeling it gave him when his mother hugged him. The feeling of warmth, peace, acceptance, forgiveness and happiness all in one. Without a word spent.

He couldn't help it though, he wanted her to know for sure, so he spoke.
" I'm sorry, Risa. " He spoke softly as he held her embraced in his arms until she had let it all out.
