Summer 511 AV

Sarye let out a sigh, the Dek meal was hard today without seeing her sister. When Kerra wasn't there it always made her worry and it was hard to focus on her work. She had already knocked over some plates that had broken on the floor and now she had cut her finger while chopping up some vegetables for a Yasi who couldn't reach the counter. What a day this way turning out to be and on top of all of this her father wanted to see her tonight. Sarye was thinking about taking up another shift just to get out of this meeting. It wasn't like they were close anymore even though her father tried to act that way. Sarye would have a much better night fixing food for others and for herself in the kitchens than to be with that lying old man.

Sarye finished cutting all the vegetables for the Yasi after she bandaged her finger and sent her on her way. Turning around to look at the pile of dishes on the floor she let out another sigh. She hadn't had time to clean them up yet and there wasn't a Yasi or a Dek around now in the kitchens so she bent down to clean them up, humming to herself.

[The Communal Kitchens] Just one of those days (Open)

Kala drifted into the kitchens, finally off of work. She had been on time for once, and her superiors had been impressed. Unfortunately, her work for that day was a particularly difficult blown glass vase that took extra time to complete due to its fragility. Technically, her hours had ended, but Kala couldn't bear to rush her work.

The kitchens were fairly empty, with just a few scattered Inarta preparing meals and a kitchen worker who was cleaning dishes. Kala had never been much of a cook, and most of her attempts to cook ended in catastrophic failure. Her bendi instructor had told her she hadn't the focus.

So Kala approached the worker, weary from work and hungry for dinner. "Hello, can you cook me something? Anything, surprise me," Kala kept her tone light, as though she was merely requesting, though she made it clear she was giving an order. Though the worker couldn't refuse one of a higher rank, Kala always made a point to be kind to other Inarta, especially those who prepared her food.

Sarye carefully picked up each piece of broken plate off the floor trying not to cut herself yet again. She had to pay more attention even if she was distracted by her sister's absence. There was no reason for her to never gain her status as an Avora chef just because she was trying to help out her Dek sister. How could she help her if she stayed a Cheit. Once her apron was full she emptied all the pieces into a basket; someone somewhere in Wind Reach could use those scraps to make something.

Just as Sarye was emptying the contents of her apron into the basket a woman walked up clearly weary from work. The woman looked like she had been working the kilns all day and had been working hard. A flash back of sitting on her father's lap while he worked the kiln came into focus in her mind. Once her father was so dear to her and now she wondered who the man really was. Her childhood still brought up fresh painful memories for Sarye.

It was a full minute after Kala had asked her question before Sarye swallowed the lump in her throat and answered her with tears in her eyes. Yes... yes I can cook you something. The Endals brought in some wonderful game today so you are in luck. How about some Venison Stew I have prepared in the back? Or I could do some Herb Roasted Rabbit with Potatoes and Carrots? I know you said surprise you but I always like to have my dishes meet the tastes of the person consuming them. I want to be a Chef someday soon. Have to get out there and learn what the people like. Sarye said with a smile but still with tears in her eyes.
