Sunset Quarters

Most of Sunberth is a slum, but the Sunset Quarters are the slums of the slum. A place for the unwanted and ne're-do-wells, Calyn, the woman in charge, provides cheap lodging and runs several orphanages, taking in anyone who can not afford their own way in life. Due to the nature of her business it's near for impossible for Calyn to fund any sort of advancement to the quarters, but she does well enough to keep them going, providing the basic essentials for those that wander into her arms. Foreigners are welcome as well and are encouraged to stay as this section of the city is the most crime-free, mainly because there's not much of anything to sell. There are no businesses, no taverns, just compact apartment after apartment, all sandwiched together to get the most use out of the most space. Life in the Sunset Quarters is sad and depressing, but the people get by, working ever forward for the day they might leave.

The Quarters are divided up into two main sections. The first, the Orphanage, is full of unwanted children from all ages up until sixteen where they're allowed to go live in the Cheap Side, the slums where the adults reside, for free until they can find some kind of income. On the far end of the Quarters are normal apartments, basic, low utility but comfortable rooms where those passing through can stay for a cheap, daily fee. It's not irregular for Calyn to negotiate her prices and, in fact, she will often not even bother to haggle, taking whatever adjusted rate without a single complaint. Most people just pay the full price though, otherwise they're prone to feeling lousy taking advantage of the sweet woman.

NPCs

Calyn "Knower"

Although an older woman, Calyn is no slouch. In her day she was a prime warrior and came to Sunberth young where she adapted to the harshness of life and learned to deal with its greatest toils. In her time Calyn was called the "Knower" due to her special Konti gift that allowed her to know a man by simple touch; it was common for her to learn of her target's past before she cut his throat. An unparalleled assassin, Calyn was one of the most feared agents of the city and was often hired out by those across great distances, employing the woman for her never yielding success. She was never known to fail a job. Eventually though, as Calyn aged, she grew weary of her habits and made an effort to resolve her sins. What brought upon this sudden change is unknown, but the people of Sunset Quarters are grateful for her new disposition. While she does endeavor to be peaceful, Calyn is known to take up old habits for those that dare cross her people.

On the 53rd Day of Fall AV 511, one of saddest days in the history of Sunberth occurred. Every once in a while, there's a person that dwells in the city that even heartless men are happy exist. Calyn was one of those very special people. Old, wonderful, and she would never turn away a hungry or homeless child. Yet, on that day the gods were cruel, and an inferno lit up the Sunset quarter, killing dozens of orphans, citizens, and Calyn herself. The orphanage managed to stay standing, though repair took fifteen days to complete, making it accessible once more on the 68th of Fall. The place is now run by a short woman, notably an Isur of mysterious roots. Where she is younger, more athletic, and more beautiful than Calyn, she's not the woman everyone cared for. There's even rumors that she's in allegiance with the Night Eyes.

Jillene Ironside

Image Five foot tall and as intimidating as a six foot brawler, Jillene is the new proprietor of the orphanage since the blaze engulfed so many lives and structures in the Sunset Quarter. It was impossible for anybody to get over the fire easily, but even more difficulty did people get over losing Calyn and accepting her unknown replacement, Jillene. There's not much known about her, except that she's blind and strict on the kids. Though she's not cruel or harsh, she does enforce a rigorous and slackless set of rules the kids must follow. Unlike Calyn, Jillene will toss them out into the streets if they refuse her demands, so those that need her have no choice but to accept her and her requests.

Bad News Everybody. School is picking up, Exams are beginning to happen, homework is growing time consuming, I may soon be evicted from my apartment, I'm dealing with severe and physical fights among several of my best friends, and I can't seem to find a time to get much needed sleep. I'm terribly sorry, but don't expect to see much of me for a long while.
