A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

[Ravok's OOC Thread] Tell Me Your Secrets

Postby Gillar on June 15th, 2009, 4:42 am

I am proud to say that this is the first thread for the city of Ravok. Pretty much all Out-Of-Character discussion will go on in here. I will begin with a brief layout of how I see this city as being.

Aside from the physical layout; canals instead of streets with some allowing direct access to structures from the water, bridges and docks connecting buildings to one another and travel down the canals via Ravosalas (long, slender, elaborately carved boats moved and steered with long poles), Ravok is more or less similar to other cities although having a few glaring differences.

The people love and/or worship Rhysol and The Voice either out of fear or sincere devotion. The Voice takes more of a direct role in the city than Rhysol and her word is law. Through The Black Sun and the Ebonstryfe, order is maintained, dissenters are silenced and the people are expected to give tribute through miza and prayer to the Temple of the Black Sun.

The Ebonstryfe is the militant arm of the Black Sun and consists of only around 500 actual members. These are the elite of the elite and are trained in arts of war as well as politics, interrogation and torture. They are also in charge of the general military of the city and other controlled territories across Mizahar.

No other Gods beyond Rhysol and The Voice are allowed to be worshiped in Ravok although they can be somewhat tolerant of those who give respect to Akajia, The Goddess of Night and Secrets.

Work is continuing and the adding of locations is ongoing. So much to do, so little time...

More locations going in at a good pace. I will be adding in NPC profiles once the current list of locations have threads of their own and are fleshed out. Patience is a virtue

That would be wonderful! I and the city would be happy to have you!

Along with the near daily location updates, tweaks and so on, I will be adding information/lore entries on various existing families within the city. They will be ranging from low to high and points in between as far as wealth and influence go. Even those of low influence and/or wealth will have their own quirks and benefits specific to citizens and even slaves of Ravok. Some of the higher influence families may have requirements for becoming a part of them but most of the families will be pretty open.

The Families of Ravok lore entry is now up. There you will find detailed information about playing as a member of one of the more influential families in the city as well as requirements for joining and information on being a slave of certain families.

Right, looked at the families and I believe (being the sadist I am) that I would want Arabella serving the Lazarin Family. :D So whenever you want to do an auction thread for Ara! I can't wait!

Did a little restructuring and clean up. All of the Dock locations are now in The Docks subforum. I will be working on finishing the details on the last of the current listed locales in The Docks and begin work on the city center where the Temple of the Black Sun as well as the city guard post and Ebonstryfe headquarters are located. There will be a few shops there as well but the majority of the shops will be in one more section that deals with trade and commerce in general.

Here is a very rough layout of how I see the city set up.

Image

One first goes through the Southern Trading Post on the southern shores of Lake Ravok. They will then arrive at the docks in that large section on the southern rim. One must then pass through the section devoted to trade and commerce on their way to the merchant/noble section and finally to the city center. My thoughts are that the city started with the center and ground up around it thus creating something akin to rings made up of differing people and locales. The richest and most powerful are in the center with the poorest on the outer rim. Trade and Commerce would be lined by the docks since that is where the goods come from. The merchants and nobles would live between the trade and commerce and city center as both sections heavily affect that group.

Anyway, that is my rambling and reasoning. More to come soon.

Looking good to me!

The heavens tore and from the area between night and day we fell, to the waters below where we should be reborn and live anew, always separated and forever yearning.

There is a new addition to The Docks. Black Tar's Alchemical Services is now up with a small but respectable selection of Enlightened and Magic Related Goods as well as Poisons. I will be continuing work on alchemy and poisons both in the skills and in items over the course of this week.
