When she had finished crying she just kept a firm hug on Nathan. She was done but she didn’t want to leave him. She felt safe here for some reason. Like she could finally let go of everything. Who was this traveler? Had he come here for the festivities like so many others had? She didn’t honestly know but she did know that this man had helped her. And for his trouble she needed to give him something. Once she had finished and gathered herself again and her breathing had returned to normal she looked down on the ground behind her. There the steel dagger sat on the ground. It had wonderful gold inlay and decoration that wove down from the handle all the way through the blade itself. It would be useful in combat, but it was also very beautiful…as Nathan had indeed noticed already. The woman released her grip in Nathan and then picked up the dagger and spoke. “This blade haunts me Nathan. It is the same blade my mother carried with her when she answered her call abroad. I wish to let my mother go. But every time I see this blade I remember.” She turned the wonderful blade over in her hands…she knew what she had to do. “You have to take it away from here Nathan, I don’t want to remember it. I want to let go.” She offered it to Nathan along with its matching sheath. If he took it the woman would smile if he declined she would press him harder to take it from her. She didn’t want it any longer. “We likely need to go back into town.” She said as she smiled and looked down the beach to the entry. |
