The Message [Blythe]

V’nessi was a little startled and she gathered her composure as she then spoke. “Or maybe our goddess wants to make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. She knows you better than you know yourself…take this as a stern warning Blythe for if the cards were to repeat themselves it was her will, not mine.” She said as she then flipped over one more card in hopes that things would be slightly different for Blythe.

Card :

It was another variant of a card, the tower card. But this tower was dark and seemed to extend into the oblivion above it. The clouds swirled around it in a bright vibrant cascade of colors. There was a figure on the ground looking up at the towers almost infinite expanse, the ground around him lit up with color. “Blythe, much will change within you and around you in this journey. It may be for the better or it may be for the worse but change is coming one way or another.” She put her cards back in the box and closed it shut as she looked to Blythe again.

“I don’t want to have to do this Blythe, but you are the only one that can halt the bloodbath that is to come. All those Kelvics as well as Kariha will die if you do not succeed. But it doesn’t stop there, things will get increasingly worse for any Konti near Riverfall and any that venture near the city. You can’t fail me here, too much hangs in the balance.”

"Doesn't that go without saying V'nessi?" Blythe asked, as she explained her version of the tower card. "Everyone changes over time, especially when they are forced to travel over great distances. Surely, this experience will be like going on a second call. Dangerous, long, hard, and miserable. Yet, unlike that one time, I am being sent someplace now, not seemingly willed to it. Or dragged along to it, if you'd prefer."

Blythe paused. Listened. She didn't at all appreciate, or like the sound of what the Konti Matriarch was telling her. "That's a lot of pressure to place on someone's shoulders," she whispered, as she cast her gaze down at the ground, and wove the fingers of each of her hands together, locking them into a space towards the center of her lap. "But that's alright... it's good to know that if I mess up, our long history with the Akalak may be threatened. It may be diminished, or thrown completely out the window in the matter of a few seasons. Maybe a bit less, maybe a bit longer."

Blythe sighed. "Forgive me matriarch, but this is all a bit much for one day," Blythe whispered, as she set her lavender-colored eyes upon V'nessi's own. "And if that is all you feel the need to tell me, I'd appreciate it if I could excuse myself. Go home and think... try to calm the beating of my heart. Talk to the family, tell them, at least in part, just what is going on."

V’nessi swallowed hard as she gathered herself for what she was about to say to Blythe. The woman was observant; she knew the ins and outs of fortune telling. But she still had so much to learn about Avalis. She nodded, “One more card Blythe…Avalis wants that much.”

card :

“Motion Blythe, as I send you off know this you will have to make choices. War, struggle and hard won victory over your opponent both inside and outside you. You fight a war of opposites Blythe, between the Blue Skinned warriors and the Maidens of the Isle. Good, evil none of that will matter in your upcoming struggle. What does matter is balance. You must harness both to drive yourself in the right direction here. You must be ready to make tough decisions, because only you can unite the forces at be to make destiny move in the right direction; if you veer off the path…you or Kihara will die…But not only you two hang in the balance… Think outside the box. And everything will come to fruition.”

She understood Blythe’s apprehension as she set her cards back in the case and closed it. “I tell you this because I want you to be prepared Blythe. You are unique and only you can manipulate the pieces on the board to make them do as they must. Only you.” She said gently laying a hand on Blythe’s own.

“I do not like sending my sisters away. But I fear if I sent anyone but you they would meet defeat. And you…you Blythe are the final grain of rice to balance the scale.”

She let that sit with Blythe as she then nodded and spoke. “You may go Blythe. Come back if you feel you need further guidance But tell none except your family of what we spoke of nor what you will do. If you tell too many you will stain the destiny that is to be. Keep silent lips until reaching Riverfall”

Blythe nodded, and peered at the final card the matriarch had to show. It seemed so unlike any other she had ever seen before. Without any sort of basis in the tarot world. It almost, caught the woman off guard. "Many more people will die should we both fail," Blythe whispered. "But their deaths will not bring peace or balance, instead, they will bring disharmony. As will the suffering of those still left alive. It is for that reason that Kariha and I cannot fail. We will not fail." Blythe paused. "Is that not what you wish me to understand, and to know?" Blythe asked, as she tilted her head slightly to the side, waiting for another answer, should the matriarch so much as have one to supply her with.

"I wish I could tell you that I saw the wisdom of Avalis, sister. Why she chose to send me of all people to aid Kariha," Blythe finally whispered. "I will not question her, but I do not understand." The Konti cast her gaze down at the floor, seemingly ignoring the matriarch's hand on her own. Or rather, hardly feeling its supposed calming effect, given her level of distress. "But... it is nice to know that each of you have faith in us, given the dire nature of what shall soon come to pass. Or rather, it is best to say, what could come to pass."

With that, Blythe pulled her hand away from V'nessi, and eased herself onto her feet. "Thank you for speaking to me matriarch, it was an honor, despite the horror held in the words we shared... I will tell no one of it, save for my family. No one more until I reach Riverfall, where I will tell Kariha, and perhaps no other." Blythe paused, swallowing the clump of saliva that had gathered in her throat. "I promise," she finished, before offering the woman a slight bow of her head. Once she had straightened herself up, she headed back from whence she had come, to make a seemingly long, and all too quiet journey back to her family's cottage.
