A village cut off from the rest of Mizahar by the Valterrian, slowly reestablishing contact with the outside world.

Justus was delivered a sideways look, the corners of Cian's mouth turning down; but he whirled toward the desk before the bookshelves, bumping a chair back against the wall. It was into this he dropped, clunking out of unlaced boots and reaching for a flat, rectangular box carved from cherrywood. The locks were sprung and he flipped open the lid in revelation of that nearly insane organization of vials and packets within.
He was a hurricane in some places, and as ordered as prayers in others.
"We'll share the bed," he muttered while peering over the selection, an ear still listening for any noises from below. He fretted again silently over Siwa, but blood and desire, exhaustion and revelation had bombed his consciousness.
He would not judge a person for running from a god.
"Ah," he decided and slid out a pair of vials, rising with a scrape of chair legs to cross back to Justus and offer him one. The cap of his own was thumbed off and he held it up to clink. "Bottoms up. You'll sleep too hard to realize I'm stealing all the blankets." |

He would have helped with the boots, would have held Cian's head in his lap to sing long forgotten lullabies until he was asleep, before taking his own rest, but sometimes one had to let another person have their way to feel like they were in control of even a sliver of their lives when everything else was running amok and afoul. With a resigned smile, he took one of the vials and clinked it against Cian's.
Siwa would perforce run home to the Temple, where Jey and others would tend to her, many of them keen to her troubles and needs.
"It will be nice to share a bed with someone who only needs the lion's share of the blankets," he murmured, and then his own toast: "To your very good health." |
