A Different View (Revy pls)

Siiri gives Revy a tour of the city of Taloba.

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role playing forums. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

Taloba, home to the Myrians, is the thriving core of Falyndar. Inhabited by a fierce and savage tribe where blood sacrifices are normal and a way of life, they are untamed and proud of it. Warlike, and with their numbers growing, the Myrians are set on reclaiming what is rightfully theirs. [Lore]

Siiri listened in amusement at Revy's explanation. Human men actually did those things to their women? She could not imagine a society that allowed their boys to grow up into adults thinking they could pull off forcing themselves on the womenfolk.

"That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Your people sound barbaric," the Myrian noted. "That, or most of your men must be ugly and physically inadequate if the women turn them down so many times that they have to resort to such things. Sweet talk...what in Myri's name is that?"

She laughed out loud at the silliness of the term.

"But you will have no such problems here - our menfolk know to keep their hands to themselves and all are finely built. Tooth himself is one of our best scouts, though if you want to share a bed with him, the women interested in bearing his children might question his taste in partners. No offense. It's just that he gains very little by siring half-humans."

Siiri chuckled once more at the sudden shift of the conversation. The human's tone may have been light but it was clear from the stiffness of her lips as she spoke that she was still not over the beating Siiri had given her. Looking back, Siiri did not think there was any way Revy could have won their duel. Her blade swung so slow despite being much lighter than her ownSlayer that she felt should could have sat down to eat before it actually hit her. Being used to fighting opponents marked by Myri, whose benefits included increasing one's weapon speed, had its benefits. In truth, it was Revy's enormous tower shield that prolonged their match.

"Perhaps you should train some more - testing your skill against those in the training yard would be a start. But come, it is your turn with Tingu."

The elder Myrian had finished up with Tooth, who had slipped out the door immediately once he had his wound bandaged (likely after hearing Siiri's comments about him), and now approached their table. Tingu's hands were wrinkled, but they were steady and her grasp was firm and strong as she inspected Revy's arm, poking and pressing her fingers around the break to determine exactly where it was. While her touch was much gentler than Onna's had been, it would still leave the human gritting her teeth from the pain. Fortunately, it did not last long.

"Clean break...good. You fight with Dhani-snake to get this? Stupid human. Same as you." Tingu's words came off quick and clipped as she worked on Revy's forearm, setting three straight wooden rods around it before wrapping the limb with gauze. She spoke in Common for Revy's benefit, though the last of her words she directed to Siiri, jabbing a finger at the taller Myrian, who could only stick out her tongue and make a face as soon as the herbalist turned away to get more bandages.

"Sloppy work, also. You spend enough time here after crocodile break your arm, why you no learn anything? Idiot girl." As if to emphasize her point, Tingu redid the knot of the bandage Siiri had wrapped on Revy's arm. "This human have place already? No? Make her stay here, gather herbs for me while I make medicine. Payment for this."

If Revy expected Siiri to turn down the older woman for her, since she had, after all, indicated that there was a place for her to stay, she would be surprised to see her escort looking helpless against Tingu's suggestion. If it was even just a suggestion.

"I...I guess that could work," was all Siiri could say. She glanced at Revy and the look she passed was almost apologetic.

OOC Note :
For Revy:
You can choose to stay with Tingu or try to argue your way out of it. Lodgings will be free during your stay in Taloba if you do, but you have to do an herb-gathering thread at least once per season in exchange. Or at least gather herbs for healing in your other threads while staying in Taloba.

Taloba STs, please take note of the above.

A Different View (Revy pls)

Postby Revy Hiroe on December 18th, 2011, 8:34 pm

The mention of having his offspring did cause Revy to blush slightly, but her eyes filled with anger almost in an instant. "Offspring? What do you think I am? I don't have any time, nor the patience, nor the drive for kids.", she replied curt, annoyed and offended. Revy with kids? She had to help out in the orphanage back in Sunberth a couple of times and she got enormous headaches from it, so she would never even think of getting kids herself.

The healer poking and pressing on her broken arm was to say it gently, enormously annoying. It had cost the mercenary all of her willpower not to punch the woman straight in the face. What was next was having her getting insulted like that. She couldn't help that she got taken by surprise and that the dhani broke her arm before she could even react to it. How was she able to prevent that then? They were only going to fetch dinner when it attacked.

"The dhani broke it before I even knew it was one. We were just fetching dinner when it decided to dump itself on top of me. Besides... if we didn't fight the dhani, Garou and the other girl that was with us, would probably be inside of it's stomache now.", she bit back.

What she heard next was even more surprising then what Siiri had said. Revy doing a herbalists job? What was she.... a slave? Besides, she had like absolutely no knowledge of plants or whatsoever, so how could she help even a little bit? "Eh... wait what? Me fetching herbs for you? Are you.....", she started but then it sank in that the commanding Siiri was docile with this woman. Why would she? Wasn't she strong and everything, so why? A dreadful feeling came over her as she then glanced at the healers face, unable to distinguish wether she had angered her or not.

Siiri wanted to swat Revy upside the head for the snappy tone the she had used in replying to Tingu. Disrespectful animals, these humans! Was every human uncouth like this one? Did they not teach them how to properly address their elders in their overcrowded human cities?

"Mind your manners, fool!" Siiri could not help but hiss out behind the mercenary. She felt embarrassed now for having brought her here. Perhaps it would have been better to let her wound fester and rot. That would teach her to curb her tongue! Her hand inched towards one of the daggers strapped to her hips, ready to slit the offender's throat if Tingu asked it of her.

To her surprise, the elderly Myrian did not, holding her hand up as if for peace.

"Learn patience, would-be matriarch. Your mother would have wanted you to learn that skill," she admonished her in their native tongue. Switching back to Common, she continued, "Human not know the Myrian way. Maybe she like, bunk with young Paen in soldier-house, with other males? No free healing herbs there, but plenty of giib-tah to keep company with."

The last word would be unfamiliar to Revy, for it was a Myrian term. If she could see Siiri's face from behind her, she would note the rosy quality the warrior's cheeks had taken on at the comment. The word was slang for fruit in the Myrian language, but the way Tingu had used it implied something a little more crass and pertaining to the sensitive part of a male's anatomy.

Had it come out from the lips of any other Myrian, Siiri would have laughed at the intended insult but she never knew how to react now as Tingu's face remained passive, her gaze steel-eyed as she awaited Revy's reply.

"Your choice but you earn keep, human. Snapping Jaws let you walk in city, but earn keep here."

The elder Myrian's Common was garbled and Siiri doubted that Revy could clearly understand what was beign said to her so she stepped in, putting a hand on the human's shoulder and giving it a squeeze. But the gesture was not light nor affectionate but hard and slightly painful. It was Siiri's way of reminding Revy that while she was still free to make her own choices in Taloba, she did so at the sufferance of every Myrian, especially her. Every wrong action Revy made would reflect poorly upon her, for she was the one who decided to allow Revy entrance into the city.

"You do not have to accept the elder's offer, human," Siiri said as mildly as she could. "But her hospitality is seldom made and rejecting it offers insult.

"Decide."

After hearing the snapping voice of Siiri and then the comment of the elderly woman in front of her, Revy realized that she had made a mistake. But her foolish pride made her ignore that fact and she just looked with a steel gaze back at Tingu. Whatever they'd say, she wasn't going to admit that she was rude, it was just not like her. She had never needed to and would never do it either.

Of course she was going to accept the offer, Siiri didn't have to tell her that. But she knew next to nothing about herbalism. So that made her need to choose her words carefully. "I do accept the offer, but I know nothing of herbalism... so for that I would need a bit of training in recognizing which plants I need to pick and how. I have heard that some plants require a special type of picking or so.", the mercenary then answered.

She then looked back at Siiri, her face still wearing the pokerface she's used to wear. Then she suddenly grinned rather wicked. "I'll make sure to train alot, just to beat your ass. Gonna make sure you'll be the one landing on it next time.", Revy said with a honing voice. She was really feeling the urge to fight the myrian woman again. "Gotta find a Bokken and train again. I'll be much faster with a Katana then with my longsword. But I'm rusty right now, been about forty seasons ago. Darn I should've kept track of it.", she then thought to herself.

"Learn," Tingu said simply in response to Revy's words.

The elder Myrian pulled three clay jars from a shelf and displayed their contents to both the human and Siiri, naming each in turn. One contained clumps of small white flowers with flecks of yellow, while the next contained narrows stems with feathery leaves spiraling around the length of each stalk. They both came from the same plant according to the herbalist. 'Arrowroot', she called them.

The last jar contained spade-shaped leaves mixed with purple-colored flowers. Both were only beginning to wilt, as if they had been harvested several days earlier and had been left out in the sun to dry. The old Myrian named them 'oregano'. She paused, considering, before giving the Common name of the herb, marjoram.

"These, I need. Remember look. You find, out in jungle," she instructed, pointing a finger at Revy. "Better if get whole plant, but leaf and flower good enough."

That seemed to be the end of the brief lesson in plant identification from Tingu, for she sealed and gathered the jars before replacing them back to where she had taken them. She waved both Siiri and Revy away after that. Siiri wondered why the herbalist didn't bother telling them the properties of each herb but realized that there must be some other process involved in their preparation that Tingu did not want to share. The elder Myrian still needed to maintain her business after all. She thought she recognized the arrowroot as one of the herbs Onna used in her poultices for wounds, but she wasn't really sure if they were one and the same.

"Go. Do other things. Walk city. Or fight. But outside," Tingu reiterated, a jab at the both of them for Revy's earlier comment about training for their next fight. She did not bother to look at them as she cleaned up the materials she had used to clean and dress the wounds of both Revy and Tooth.

"Come," Siiri beckoned to the human, moving towards the door. "The spare room is the one on the left. it is often used for the injured who need to stay more than a day but Tingu has no such patient like that right now. You can leave your things there now if you like, no one will touch them."

Revy may not believe the Myrian's words because of the nature of her city of origin, but she was not to know that thievery was a very rare thing in Taloba. Whether she left her pack, weapons and other implements in the room or not, she would find the Myrian warrioress waiting for her outside the hut.

"I can show you where the market square is, or you can roam on your own if you like. You can usually find me in the barracks or the training yards. Maybe you can find me teaching our recruits combat maneuvers, so you can learn how to fight properly, yes?"

The Myrian smirked, indulging her superiority over the human in their previous duel for a moment. Siiri thought it would only increase Revy's drive to get back at her for the loss. She knew the feeling; she had been there.

"There is only one place a deyhan like you cannot go to: the Temple. Anywhere else..." Siiri shrugged. "Others will tell you if you can enter or not. But you must not leave the city without me or another Myrian with you."

She did not add that Revy would be shot by the archers manning the city walls if she tried nor did she mention that she would be constantly watched. Onna would have no doubt spread the word of the descriptions of both her and Carsten to the rest of the warriors in the barracks by now and there would be no shortage of eyes on them during their stay in the city. These were things these humans did not need to know, anyway.

A Different View (Revy pls)

Postby Revy Hiroe on January 2nd, 2012, 7:47 pm

The mercenary made sure to imprint the picture of both of the plants in her mind, as did she with the instruction to take the whole plant. She wasn't sure if it would be possible for her to always stay on the lookout for it, but if it meant free lodging why not? That way she might gain some knowledge about plants and their healing capabilities... or so she hoped. It might be handy for her to know it so she wouldn't be too dependent on others to take proper care of her wounds.

After the short jab of the elderly myrian woman, Revy stood up, wincing from the pain from her whole arm once and picked up her bag with her good arm. And after hearing what Siiri said about the room, she gave it a bit of a doubtful glance, but thought it would be bad manners not to trust the one that brought her in on her word. She did however keep her longsword on her side.

After hearing the myrian warrior out, the human's face was twitching a little. The insult really ticked her off. She would show that woman a thing or two if she could get her hands on a Katana. Up until now she still hadn't been able to get one. The prices of just one of em was outrageous. When she could wield one of those, she would be alot faster, even though she didn't have as much experience with it just yet.

"For now I would like to be lead to the market, exploring is something I can do later. Right now I need to get my coin exchanged first or I won't be able to buy anything here.", she told Siiri. It was a bit of a let down that she wasn't allowed to enter the temple, because that way she couldn't see Myri. Well, that just meant that she had to prove herself first. And the best way in her eyes was to beat the myrians in a fight.

A Different View (Revy pls)

Postby Siiri on January 4th, 2012, 12:19 pm

"Expecting trouble?" Siiri asked with a straight face, noting the naked blade hanging by the mercenary's side. She could not stop the amused twitching of her lips as she finished her question, however. What could possibly threaten anyone's safety while within the confines of Taloba? Had Siiri not made it clear by allowing her and Carsten to walk unbound into the city that they were under her watch and, in essence, protection? But then again, this Revy was human. If the presence of her blade made her feel safe walking the streets, then so be it. Strange folks, humans...

The Myrian recalled an incident where her own bondmate ran into trouble with a berserked riamm, and she granted that maybe having the sword wasn't such a bad idea for Revy. She'd get a slash in at least before the riamm tore her to pieces, if something similar happened, she chuckled inwardly.

She led the human through the more heavily used streets on the way to the trading square just to give her the idea that these were the paths she should take when exploring the place on her own. The other Myrians might find Revy's choice of roads suspicious if they found her walking along the less populated areas alone and might - no, would certainly - take exception at her presence. Even with Siiri accompanying her now, the human had to endure the unabashed glares of the locals. More often than note, those looks were accompanied by a frown or a scowl, especially when made by an adult. The children they encountered only expressed open curiosity at the pale-skinned outsider. It wasn't often that someone with the complexion of unbaked bread freely walked the streets, after all.

If Revy took time to note, she would find that almost all of the children had one brightly colored and fluffy ball of fur sitting on their heads or shoulders. Was it a fad to sport such things among the Myrian youth?

The marketplace was jam-packed, as it usually was. Siiri weaved through the crowd of shoppers and merchant stalls to find the one person in all of Taloba who exchanged foreign coin to bikka. His stall sat in a less crowded part of the square for his business wasn't as active as the others. It wasn't everyday that buyers came up to him to have their currency exchanged. Taloba had a closed but self-sustaining economy, only maintaining trading ties with the island-city of Black Rock.

The Myrian manning the money exchange booth would appear friendlier than those Revy had encountered so far, with an honest smile and an open expression, even though he sported a pair of bone throwing knives bound on each of his biceps. His eyes twinkled when he noted hers and Siiri's approach.

"Go ahead and get your business done,"
Siiri gestured. "He'll give you your money's worth in bikka."

A Different View (Revy pls)

Postby Revy Hiroe on January 7th, 2012, 10:31 pm

As Revy came out, Siiri greeted her with a question like that. The amused twitching of her lips didn't escape Revy's attention as she replied: "Ran into too much shyke to feel safe without it. Got a problem with that?" Her voice was rather annoyed, not really seeing the fun in the situation. But she shook it off only a second later as she started walking.

Being taken over the main roads did make Revy feel a little unsettled. Having to endure the glares from all the grown ups and the curiosity of the kids was something she wasn't too used to. The kids were the most nerve-wrecking for her to be honest. Where ever Revy went, she'd rather avoid kids. Nothing good came from them, just trouble and generally a lot of trouble for her.

"Ey... what are those furballs on the kid's shoulders?", the mercenary asked in a hushed voice. Those things were strange and not to mention a bit out of place in such a city, or well that was what she was thinking at least.

Upon arrival at the market, it took quite a bit of effort for the human woman to weave through the crowd without having her arm bump into nearly every single myrian that was out there. So after alot of curses and clacking of the tongue, Revy made it to the booth. Upon first sight of the one manning it, a feeling of trust came up within her. This feeling was rather rare for her and thus she couldn't prevent herself from raising an eyebrow at it.

Siiri didn't actually have to tell her that she could get her coin exchanged here as the equipment for it stood on the booth. Upon approaching the myrian, Revy asked: "Got some coin to exchange. What's the goingrate of the Bikka versus the Miza?

A Different View (Revy pls)

Postby Siiri on January 11th, 2012, 1:46 am

"Problem? Me?" Siiri asked in seeming innocence at Revy's snappish tone. For some reason, she found it amusing to continue ribbing the human mercenary. And so, with the tense situation inside Tingu's hut now past them, the Myrian persisted on the source of her entertainment.

"I don't have a problem with it - I already bested you in combat." Her reply was accompanied by that smirk she knew the human would find infuriating, but since Revy had already started walking she didn't see the smug expression on Siiri's scarred face. "Others might though. Naked blade, open challenge. More so if you had it in your hand. Try not to bump against anyone with a weapon larger than yours, eh?"

Most of what she had just said wasn't true, of course. In fact, the other Myrians they ran into wore weapons as well, and like Revy's not all of them were sheathed, merely strapped against a leg or forearm or tucked or hooked under belts. As the chosen people of the Goddess of War, the Myrians were always prepared for battle, be it outside in the wilds or in the safety of their city. One never knew where trouble might arise, after all. Siiri herself carried her greatsword on her back still, as well as the many daggers strapped on various parts of her body, though granted she had just returned from patrol. Revy did not know any of this, however, and Siiri wasn't exactly inclined to inform her otherwise. She preferred to keep the human on her toes when walking among her people.

Siiri's mood abruptly changed when Revy asked her about the balls of fur clinging on some of the Myrian children they encountered, her brows furrowing. "Riamms," she replied tersely, a peculiar expression on her face. "They're called riamms. They're just... Just pets." She hurried her steps, not saying anything more after that until they had reached the money changer.

Revy's perception of the Myrian money changer was understandable. The man had an open face with an easy smile that highlighted his white teeth against the darker shade of his skin. He had less elaborate tattoos that most other Myrians the mercenary had seen, nor could she find Myri's mark on the exposed parts of his body, unlike Siiri whose own mark was plain to see at the back of her right fist. He pulled out a thick wooden tray specifically designed to hold the circular bone chips that served as currency in the city. The precisely carved grooves on top of the tablet held the unique coins in place, and each one seemed to be able to hold up to twenty coins in them. Strangely, despite holding such wealth in his booth, Revy could not see any guards standing by to ensure that no troublemaker tried to make off with the money.

"One fo' three 'a your shiny gol' ones, White Bread," the man replied in a lazy drawl. His thick accent made it sound like he was eating up some of the syllables of his words as he spoke. In fact, the term he used to address Revy, 'White Bread', came off sounding like 'Waht Brahd'. "Same fo' er'one. Much ya wan'?"

Whether Revy stated an amount or gave all her mizas for exchange, the man counted off an equivalent amount and stuffed them in a small leather bag, holding it up for Revy to take once he was done. He did not immediately release his hold from the container, however.

"Li'l warning, ya? Don' leave da city with da bikka. Or we an' I, Goddess-Queen makes us go an' find ya, ya? Bad bisnaz."

He smiled that friendly smile again, before returning the wooden tray, and the newly-exchanged foreign coin, in the compartment of his booth. Business seemed quick and easy in Taloba.

A Different View (Revy pls)

Postby Revy Hiroe on March 26th, 2012, 6:12 pm

The comment about the myrian beating the human infuriated her. Even if she did beat her she didn't have to rub it in like this now did she? What she said more about it being a challenge to any other one was in fact a little enjoyable. Maybe she could get a few good spars that way. Even if she wouldn't win, it would improve her skill considerably, or so she thought. "An open challenge? Good, would love to spar against others.", she replied, though it was noticeable that she was a little angered by what Siiri had told her.

Revy threw her pouch at the table. She wasn't going to need her mizas here any time soon anyway. She watched the trader count the mizas, giving her a number of bikkas in return. But before she could take it back, heard him warn her. Giving the man a smile, she said: "Sure, no problem. Can't use em outside of here anyway. Don't think it'll be easy to leave here either."

After finishing her business with the trader, she turned to Siiri again and asked: "Any other place you might want to show me? Don't think I'd have much to do for the rest of this day though."
