The skulking doctor

Character description
Only barely reaching 5 foot and 4 inches, Danck is fairly small for his age. Though he keeps insisting he still needs to hit his grow spurt and that its going to come very soon. As for the rest, the most striking feature of his are a series of fresh burn marks covering large stretches of his small frame.

Character Concept
Danck always leaves a lasting expression to the people who notice him and not only because the recent and ugly traces of burns litter his body. He also is a rude and blunt boy who learned half the vocabulary he has from the sailors at the dock. That coupled with the fact he usually doesn't care what others think of him and doesn't keep his opinion to himself usually gets him in a lot of trouble with others.

Strangely enough, while most people deduce from his behavior that he is completely uncaring towards others he usually doesn't take a hostile posture towards others who don't annoy him by staring at his scar's like a blithering idiot or piss him off in some other way and doesn't mind to get them to know better. When it comes to children however, Danck really has a soft spot. He loathes people who abuse young children and would gladly plant a dagger in between the ribs of whoever does things like that.

Character History
Danck was born on a cold winter night aboard of one of the caravan's of a bunch of wandering traders, A happy event the fairly large group quickly took advantage from to lighten the spirits already grown a bit weary thanks to the cold winter and they threw everything they could miss, a few of the more generous ones even dipping in their own stores of trade goods, together for a joyous celebration. The future looked bright for the young lad, with mostly caring people surrounding him.

As the boy grew it seemed that the bright and rather normal future that the other traders hoped he would get wasn't that far from reality. His drykas father began teaching him on how to hold a dagger and how to defend himself, just as his was tradition in with the drykas, as soon as the young boy was old enough to safely handle the light blade. While his mother on the other hand carefully instructed the young boy as she bandaged the wounds he got from mishandling the dagger or accidents of both his own fault and his fathers, hoping that the boy could do it for himself and when he was older help her tend to the other wounds and small ill's the rest of the caravaneers got.

And so 6 years passed in relative peace, until suddenly a group of slavers ambushed them on their way to zeltiva, everybody, including the young Danck fought as cornered lions, knowing that death was preferable to whatever fate was awaiting them as slaves, but one by one they where either killed or subdued. Danck was one of the first ones to be kicked to the ground by one of the brutish slavers. But before he was pulled out of the battle by a slaver he caught one last glimpse of his father brutally tearing into a a few slavers who tried to subdue him. That however was the last he saw from his father or his mother and a lot of the other people he traveled with. The only thing the young boy has to remember the good times he had was a small green gemstone that the slavers didn't bother to steal from him, it was nearly worthless in their eyes and none of them wanted to get bitten by a little brat that they weren't allowed to hurt to much anyway. Otherwise the value of the little kid would go down a lot more then the gemstone would be worth.

Even after the boy was houled away by slavers his life didn't take a turn for the better, to the slavers auctioned him of in sunberth, a callous woman bought him and worked him as hard as she could without letting the poor boy simply collapse. She wanted to wring out every single miza she spend out of him in the form of labor and then some and she didn't make an effort to keep that goal of her hidden. Danck however wasn't going to just lie down and take the woman's orders without a fight and used everything in his means to get the hell away from the woman. Unfortunally for him, she never let him be alone in places he could get out of her home, either one of her sons where with him keeping an eye on him and drag him back to their home after every attempted escape, after a few years under constant scrutiny and harsh beatings from his master every time his escape failed. However his combined experience with escaping and trying to keep unnoticed finally paid of after all those years of being worked to the bone and he successfully ran away from the family.

After a few fear filled day's living on the streets he ended up in the orphinage, the knowledge that the fairly friendly konti who kept it was a former assassin eased the feeling of fear. There was no way they would try to pull him back in their service with somebody like her keeping watch over him. And so the twelve year old boy's life finally took a turn for the better. As soon as the konti found out that he knew a little bit about how to bind wounds and take care of other small mishaps she quickly took advantage of it, his chores usually consisting about taking care of the other kids when they had some slight mishap. With sometimes the odd job added on to the mix.
Of course, like most people in sunberth Danck fell into petty crime to get some pocket money, picking pockets, stealing food from market stalls and even sometimes even mugging people with some other orphans if they really got desperate or for vengance. As they slowly grew up it became apparent that Danck got a knack for sneaking around without getting caught, at least he was better at pickpocketing and swiping extra helpings of food out of the kitchen then the other orphans.

And so life went on as normaly as it could him and a few others grouping together when they where 16 winters old forming a small time gang skulking around the back alley's preying on the drunk, the weak and the solitary. Running like hell whenever the victim turned out to be tougher then expected or had some kind of backup. And all was reasonalby well. Until the fire happened. Danck was barely able to drag his burned and bruised body out of the inferno and drag himself to the good doctor who took almost every single peny of what was left of his savings in exchange for treatment, the rest of the money was spent on a few supplies to help him survive on the streets. And he had to pay the doctor to get some more things to take care of his wounds.

Now Danck has no friends anymore as far as he knows, the people he knew either dead in the fire or scattered somewhere in the city and while the orphanage is rebuilt he heard rumors that the caretaker died in the fire. Without her protection he didn't doubt that the greedy lady would try to force him back into service. He might not remember a lot about her, but a long time memory and bloody minded determination to get back what is hers where in some of her most memorable traits, not to mention, her husband had the tell tale red tattoo of a daggerhand and it was obvious he rather would lay low for a while.
