An inland sea created by Ivak's cataclismic fury during the Valterrian, the Suvan Sea is a major trade route and the foremost hub for piracy in Mizahar. [lore]

Erikur was struggling in the depths of the water, clearly at a loss of how to stop himself from drowning. Luckily he had Gabrielle there to help him; he recoiled from her touch at first, but partly out of desperation he eventually allowed her to bring him up to surface, by the end even good-intentionally kicking a few times.

Likewise, Jase and Damias were both waiting to help, fear clear on their faces. They helped Gabrielle haul their near-unconscious compatriot back on board while she heaved herself back up on their own.

There appeared a jagged bolt of lightning and a rumble of thunder as Gabrielle made her prayer, but whether that signaled Laviku was with or against her, no one could tell. The fact that she was close enough to the storm that she could hear the thunder so close after lightning struck meant only bad things, however.

The casinor responded to Gabrielle's touch, moving away from the storm as she began to steer them for land. But the storm threatened close behind, and at one point Gabrielle and her woebegone employers could hear the pitter-patter of rain close behind.

How she managed to make it, even Laviku wouldn't know; it seemed like one second the gushing storm gales were just about to engulf them, and then suddenly Gabrielle had reached shore.

It was a flat stretch of Syliran beach, but it was better than nothing. Now that all remained to be done was for Gabrielle to haul up her ship onto land before the storm pulled them back out to sea. And with Jase and Damias eagerly waiting to help (doubtless out of personal reasons) hopefully that could be accomplished rather easily...

Munus Muneris [Gabrielle Seawind]

Gabrielle's knuckles were white as pearls as she clutched the helm of her casinor. They were making good time, the casinor going straight for the beach. Gabrielle cursed herself -- she had lived on a ship all her life, but she didn't know what exactly had to be done at that moment.

"Drop the anchor when we hit land!" commanded Gabrielle, directing her order at the two men who looked ready to help. If they somehow got caught in a space between sand and where the strong waves crashed, having an anchor latched on land was their best bet. She knew that much.

The casinor swept across the beach, tumbling roughly since it obviously wasn't meant to be on land. It tilted greatly to the side, but fortunately didn't fall. The waves continued to hit the boat, and she signaled her companions to drop the anchor immediately to keep the waves from pulling them back in. The rain sprayed on her violently. Gabrielle hoped no damage would be brought to her boat.

"Get as far away from the water as you can...!" hissed Gabrielle to her companions, urging them to get off the boat. As much as it pained her, she needed to leave her casinor for the time being. Hopefully, the anchor on land was enough to keep it around. She prayed it would be enough. She waited for the men to get off before she did -- she was the captain, and she knew she had to get off last.

oocI have no idea how to maneuver a ship on land. I tried googling it but I guess I don't know the right keywords. T_T I apologize if it was full of ignorance.

Jase's face was haggard and as pale as his ashen blond hair as he helped Gabrielle get the casinor up onto the sand, while a similarly-disposed Damias dropped the anchor onto the darkened shore. The casinor groaned as the sharp waves hit it again, urging it to return to the water's embrace, but it remained fixed in position.

"It's working...it's working!"

Two wet, huddling figures joined Gabrielle and Jase as they made their retreat along the deck. It was a beleaguered Damias supported a half-conscious Erikur; with nary a thought Jase went to help support him. With their fellow held between the two of them, Gabrielle's employers managed to shimmy down from the deck onto the land. A rough shout, nearly lost among the roar of rain being brought to bear, indicated for Gabrielle to join them.

By the time she managed to catch up with the trio, however, they had already managed to find shelter. An outcropping of rock broke the wind and captured the rain on its granite overhanging. Beneath it, three shivering forms tried to keep as warm and dry as possible.

A blue-lipped Erikur was the first to receive Gabrielle. "You...saved me!" he exclaimed, slurring his words.

"Why don't you take a seat." Damias murmured. "We're going to have to wait out this storm."

"You...you...you saved us all!"

Munus Muneris [Gabrielle Seawind]

The expression on Gabrielle's face was of fear and panic. A shout from her companions rang her out of her reverie. She took one last glance at her casinor, her home, before she made her way after her employers. The cold rain splattered violently against her skin.

Erikur acknowledged what she had done, but his words were practically incoherent. She said nothing in reply, largely due to the fact that her mind was much too worried about the fate of her ship. Gabrielle could vaguely understand Damias's suggestion for her to take a seat. Nevertheless, she plopped down on the wet ground. A voice once again acknowledge what she had done, and she looked at the person who spoke, her lips a flat line of expression.

"It was nothing. It was my job, it was mostly luck, and you men did as much work as I did," she would have said it was Laviku who brought them there safely, but she couldn't help but wonder if it was him who brought the storm to them in the first place. She couldn't voice out her opinions though, for the God might hear her.

The Svefra shifted her attention from the men and to the horizon. She tried in vain to squeeze the water out of her hair, and couldn't help but shiver as well. Gabrielle wondered how long until the storm subsided -- she had to see how her ship fared against it.

"But you did save us," Damias broke in suddenly. His eyes were chaste now, full of admiration and respect. "We would never have gotten out from that storm if you hadn't told us what to do."

"And I would have died if you hadn't jumped in and saved me." Erikur added.

"So...thank you." Damias said, dipping his head slightly.

The other two mumbled their thanks, and then turned back to watch the rain shower down around them. Off in the distance Gabrielle's casinor seemed to be doing fairly well - at the very least, the ocean hadn't reclaimed her. She was still on the shore, and nothing substantial had blown away.

"When we get back," Damias said suddenly, "I'm going to pay you double amount. We didn't get to fishing, but...you deserve it."

And so, Gabrielle's first escort mission ended on mixed terms. On one hand, she hadn't been able to get her passengers the ride they wanted, but she had saved a life and gained the respect of everyone around. And she was being paid double the amount she had been originally given. And who could argue with those odds?

The rain still poured down, but high above the steady cloud cover broke ever so slightly. Tender rays of sunlight were allowed to pour in, dipping down to tell the beached ship mates the worst of the storm was past. Nature was oddly symbolic in that way. For Gabrielle too had weathered a storm of a different kind. In her very first job she had been tossed from the frying pan into the fire, and she'd survived without any burns.

Fin.
