Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

The majestic Cyphrus stretching onwards and out, Riverfall's towers and city wall loom against the horizon from far beyond. The outer structure of the city is strong and imposing, much like the warrior race that resides within. Much thought was put into the design of the city, and the aid of magic was drawn into the protection of the beautiful city. Too tall to scale, the wall is impenetrable and constantly patrolled by vigilant Akalak. The noble warriors keep watch on the land surrounding their home, and stand prepared to protect her from any danger.

The gate itself is guarded well, also. Akalak on rotation stand vigilant, ready to welcome the peaceful and turn away the unsuitable. The two on duty at present seemed neither overly friendly nor blatantly threatening. It was with a wary sort of preparedness that they surveyed approaching travelers, and made their demand.

"Welcome, traveler. State your business."

[Riverfall City Gates] All Entry On Land Post Here

Postby Desmus Marrudius on January 21st, 2012, 10:20 pm

Winter 38, 511AV

Desmus had finally ventured from the great Sea Of Grass and made his way to the port city of Riverfall. He had been traveling with a rag tag band of people that all met at his camp site a couple of days ago but along the way they slowly drifted apart it seems. Desmus came to the city because of them so he thought it was only right for him to atleast see if they were anywhere to be found m, or if they even made it to the city at all. Desmus cared nothing fir this group of strangers that stumbled upon him but he felt like he was partly responsible for them. He would wait by the gate fir awhile to see if they stumbled upon him once again.
"I watched as the lamb opened the fourth of the seven seals and I heard the fourth of the living beasts say in a voice like thunder come and see, and I saw and behold a pale horse and he sat on him was death and behind him, hell followed" - Revelations 6:8

[Riverfall City Gates] All Entry On Land Post Here

Postby Daske Baggywrinkle on January 24th, 2012, 4:09 am

15 Fall 511 AV, Riverfall.

Daske approached the massive gates of Riverfall as the sun was starting to set in the West. He was dirty and sweaty. His face and arms were burnt from days under the unforgiving sun. His clothes were torn in a number of places. And he hadn't eaten anything for two days. He had risked everything to reach this place. He hoped that once inside the city he would be safe. The Akalak were know to be sympathetic to escaped slaves. Or so he had been told. And he was indeed a slave on the run.

Daske was not a small man by any means. But the two Akalak guards watching him from the gate were truly impressive specimens of manhood. They looked to be around seven feet tall and probably weighed 300 pounds, all of it muscle. He had seen Akalak before, but only from a distance. Up close they were downright intimidating. One of them stepped forward as Daske came near. The other moved a bit to one side, his hand on the hilt of a great sword. Daske noticed two other guards on the wall over the gate, also watching him. It was hard to imagine how they could perceive him as a threat, but apparently they took their responsibilities seriously.

“Welcome, traveler,” said the dark-skinned giant who had stepped forward to meet him. “State your business.” The tone was neither friendly nor unfriendly. But clearly he expected an answer. Daske had already decided honesty was his best policy here.

“My name is Daske. I was a slave of one of the tribes of the plains, and I escaped. I seek refuge in Riverfall.”

The guard studied him for a few moments. “Show me your bag,” he said. Daske handed him the bag. He peered inside and pawed around a bit. Then he gave it back, stepped to one side and said, “Welcome, Daske, to Riverfall.”

----------------------------

First order of business was to get some new clothes. Ten days alone on the plains had left his clothes torn, filthy and smelly. Besides, they were a slave's clothes. He would never wear them again. A guard gave him directions to Zhongjie Warren on the second tier, assuring him he would find everything he needed at the bazaar. He found it in short order and came out half an hour later with a fine set of clothes.

Next he made his way to Kulkukan Tavern and Inn on the third tier. Here he rented a small but decent room for three days in advance, had a decent meal, got a bath, haircut and shave, and then retired to his room where he immediately fell sound asleep.

The next morning he tried on the new clothes he had purchased: Light blue cotton pants held up by a leather belt, a burnt orange linen shirt, a pair of long stockings, a a pair of tan leather shoes. He stuffed the rest of the clothes he had purchased into his knapsack. Then he put on his new dark brown leather jacket and headed out the door for a visit to the harbor. He was going to buy himself a boat.

"State your business."

Meera hardly heard him over the sound of her own breathing. It was not to say the dark giant was quiet, but should be noted Meera's breath was rapid and loud. Even her buckskin was winding down from the gallop she had kept him at. Dark eyes peered out from behind her messy, unkempt braids and she didn't bother to tuck the loose green ribbon behind her ears. The less he saw of her face, the better she would manage to leave alive in the morning.

She certainly understood that she could not fight one, let alone both Akalak, even with her buckskin's training. She remained mounted on her stallion as she gave a stare to the Akalak that spoke. To dismount she would be a higher threat, as well would display her true height. Her tan stallion gave a snort and shook his black and blood mane in displeasure.

::Run some more please:: Tan begged. She could feel the muscles twitch in anticipation. Darksand was so accustomed to running great distances and for longer durations that he hardly thought it was worth bringing him to a gallop. Meera gave him an affectionate pat on his neck to settle him. ::In the morning we will be out of here. We'll cross the sea and go far from here.:: Meera comforted.

"State your business," Again he spoke in Common. It was not her best language, but she could manage fine.

"Rest." Her voice was loud to the Akalak's ears. He could tell the woman was out of practice, which was strange. He couldn't identify her as a Drykas, she had none of those tattoos they were all so fond of. What was she if she wasn't a Drykas? A brave woman to enter Riverfall alone, on the back of one of their horses."Traveling through in morning." This was deemed suitable enough to the initial Akalak and he gave a small nod to his partner. He was far more scrutinizing.

After a final inspection, he allowed her in. He could see no bags on her except the normal fare, and so he allowed the young girl, hunched over in her Yvas to guise her true height and weight, to pass through the Gates to Riverfall unescorted.

69th of Winter, 511 AV

Home. At last. It had been so long. Though he had never much felt the need to return, hearing the familiar sounds, seeing the familiar sights... it all felt oddly reassuring, somehow. Aren looked at the two guardsmen which stood at Riverfall's gates, in perpetuity. Even their gruff presence was a welcomed sight after all this time away.

"You guys still here? I would have thought you'd get a break after fifty years," Aren waved at the two men, their stern expression as unyielding as ever.

"Aren Anazasz... what brings your petulant mug back here after all these years?" One of the ever vigilant sentinels inquired, as a faint smile broke across his face, "Tyr will be glad to see you, boy."

"I'm sure..." Aren mumbled, as the gates parted before him, revealing the city of Riverfall, in all it's unrivaled splendor.

[Riverfall City Gates] All Entry On Land Post Here

Postby Lynnea Timandre on February 19th, 2012, 12:07 am

Timestamp: 47th Winter 511 A.V. -- late afternoon

Long shadows dripped over the grasslands, their dark fingers stretched as thought straining to reach their goal. The woman walked with them, following their dark path. The salty sea yearned for her, a father's embrace struggling to take back a lost child. It beckoned her onward, driving her to that one place she knew she had to be; Riverfall.

Riverfall.

Beneath Lynnea, her dun horse nickered. He strained under her inexperienced hand, pulling away from the massive city gates that sprouted in front of them. She felt unsteady on the horse's back, almost as unsteady as the singular day the drykas had rescued her and brought her back to his pavilion, the one place she had felt safe in for a long time now. She had been staying with them for this entire season, and it was to them this horse belonged; but she could stay with them no longer. She had to go home. She had to go to Mura. And to get to Mura, she had to go to...

Riverfall.

Lynnea dismounted and turned to the guide who had led her hither. He too, was Sunkiss; a few words were exchanged, words of comfort and promise and joy, but little more. But that was alright. She had already said her goodbyes, back at the pavilion. With a kiss on either cheek of the man she turned away, turned away to face her new life.

Riverfall.

The guards there were blue-skinned, just as the drykas had warned. Akalak, they were called. Wary, cautious, and examining her with a sort of restrained physicality, one could instantly tell they favored the life of the warrior.

One of them called out to Lynnea as she approached. "Welcome, traveler. State your business."

But wasn't the damndest thing, though? For she had no idea what she doing. Her 'business' - there wasn't one.

"I'm just trying to get home." Lynnea mumbled at last, and there was something in her tone of voice, or perhaps her luggage-less state that made the guards look at each other.

In a softer voice now, one said; "Go on in, milady. I'd travel to Godiva's Refuge, if I were you. It's on the Second Tier." A azure hand pulled her in, softly urging her forth.

With a shimmer of white-blond hair, Lynnea nodded and even managed a smile as she moved between the duo. The pale, scaled lady walked into the city, with mingled resolution and pain in every footstep. This was the first step of many. The first step in finding that which was lost. The first step in getting home.

Riverfall. And so it was.
