At first entering the arena, there was a confused murmur from the crowd. It took several seconds for them to realize that there was a giant snake coming out of the gate. One woman even let out a scream of surprise. His body moving along, he continued going out of the gate, to the amazement of many people who thought his entire length had already come out. Surely even here, they had never seen a snake that long.
For it was not common for an animal to get to such length, common snakes certainly did not, they were probably thinking it was some dire snake from Taldera or something, as little sense as a snake in a cold area made sense.
Bones moved along, first sensing the body heat exuded by his foe, long before he saw him with his other senses. He was definitely warm blooded, Bones could almost smell the fresh smell of warm blood on sand...
But no, he had to control that impulse, he had been told by Shale not to kill the animal, though he did not know why. Though the beast would surely by trying to kill him... He was not to worried, looking at the puny thing, which he easily dwarfed in size... He was as thick as a tree trunk, and as long as one was tall, next to this tiny stump of a dog... But he had to make the fight look good, play with him, even if he did not kill him...
So Bones let the beast come to him, let it sniff at his scales, trying to check him out, as Bones held back the broiling death trying to bubble out of him... So easy to kill him... He could bite at his neck with his mouth, one swift movement swiping his face in, and easily break its neck in one move, while ripping out its throat.... Or he could wrap around it, and slowly squeeze the breath out of him, until he stopped moving... Or he could simply lift up his heavy long tail, and bring its crushing weight down on the dogs back, breaking its spine and making it immobile...
Since all of those things would be lethal, Bones did none of those. As the dog sniffed at him, Bones lifted the end of his tail, and swung it at the dogs torso with all of its weight behind it, though not to hard. If he struck full force, the dog would likely have broken ribs, and if it tried to stop it with its mouth, to bite, it would likely snap its neck... So he could not do that so early in the fight...
So he would only try to hit with a little force, enough to knock the dog skidding a few dozen feet over the sand, and to knock its breath out, just a gentle swipe... If it was smart, it would not try and bite his tail, as Bones would not be able to stop, and if he did that he would likely have teeth knocked out, even if it managed to stop the attack and got a single bite in.
Though if it hit the dogs torso, along with knocking the air from it, it would feel like being hit by a runaway wagon, going downhill, not at all pleasant. But a mere playful swipe compared to what he could do if he were to seriously be trying to kill it... |
