Season of Fall, Day 80, 511AV

He was nearly there, he had gone as far as he could downhill but the sled helped in tremendously and now it was letting him pull his pack through the snow, it may be Fall and still a tad warm but this was The Northern Reaches, warmer than below zero was not a common occurrence. Still he knew the general direction of where he was going and the boat had taken him as far as it would through the region, which was not far at all. In fact, they had dropped him off approximately 80 days ago at Novallas and during that time he thought he was going to meet his end at least several times. He had been hoping to make it to Avanthal by the first of Winter but with the temperature drop and his current pace he doubted that would happen, it was getting colder and the only thing keeping him warm was his cloak and the small caves he curled up in. And that was just barely. Still it did nothing to dampen his mood, no, the fool known as Majnoon was humming with a clear bounce in his step as he made his way through the frozen tundra.

As he picked his way through the tundra and forestry he wondered if there was anyone else who traveled, it would make for an interesting exchange of stories and maybe they would have more food than he did. But that was a thought for another time, he was cold and his feet ached something fierce.

Propping his sled into the snow and piling up snow around it so it stood sturdily and gave him some form of protection from the light snowfall. Mentally he went through his list, a steady set of motions he had to do in order to rest.

“Shelter…” he looked at his pitiful, beat up and long-time friend of a sled, “Check, now for the fire.”

He had found fires to be ridiculously hard to get going in the snow covered lands, the random breezes, the snow and of course the fact that his hands were always slightly numb. He figured he had a better chance in this alcove of trees though, not to mention his sled and the lack of severe winds.
Majnoon worked in a precise manner, digging away the snow and gathering semi-dry branches and leaves that were tucked safely under the brush and areas sheltered from the snow, it was tedious but to have a warm fire was worth it.

But this afternoon he just could not get his fingers to work, though he had his small pile started he continuously dropped the flint or blew out the spark, even if the sun was out it was not giving warmth.

“Little spark you would be so much more beautiful if you would light.”

He pulled his cloak tighter around him, dropping the flint and steel into his lap and decided he would enjoy a scenery. In the distance he swore he could even make out the faint glow of the Icewall gate.
