Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

"No, is NOT dead!" Aren informed Ysane, as she approached, bow in hand. He had had to move himself and his captive out of the way of her incoming volley, and now sported a fresh graze on his shoulder from where the arrow near missed.

"There would be a large, pointy stick through this guy's head right now...." the akalak shook the young man in his grasp like a rag doll, unmindful of his own strength, "...if I hadn't moved him out of the way."

Aren shook his head, his golden eyes almost appearing to glow in the darkness, "We need him alive, in case he's not alone... at least for now," he tried to explain to his young drykas companion.

Fortunately, she at least did what she was told, and took up a position nearby Aren, looking out into the mist.

"Hello, Ward," Aren offered, now less inclined towards violence than he had been a moment ago, seeing as his prisoner's story seemed to check out.

"Ysane... search him," the akalak commanded, now in a less aggressive, but still cautious mindset. Unfortunately, even if there was no one else around, Aren was going to be forced to take anything Ward had on his person that could be used as a weapon. He simply wasn't stupid enough to release, and then turn his back on, an armed man.

Ysane, or Meera, did not want to search him. To be more specific, she did not want to touch him, this stranger in the mist. She uncocked her arrow and put it to the chin of their prey, holding the flat steel right by his soft neck.

With her free hand she dived into his pockets and finding vials of poison, she would show them to Aren soundlessly for inspection. Meera could not read well, especially in thick, dark mist. After he had seen them, she put them in her own pockets. She heard the unmistakable clink of coins and she too gathered those, not bothering to show Aren what they were, or to count how many.

"Armed," she spoke to relay to Aren what she had found in his pack.

There was several sets of needles in his pack, she further examined and she pocketed those as well, lest he decide to make use of them in combat, and a blow gun. A weird choice of weapon, Meera thought, but took it none the less. If anything, Meera could make a meal out of it by selling the thing in market.
The girl couldn't read the map too well in the mist, so she was unable to determine if it had any use to her or Aren, so she would hold on to it as well. Should the young man keep his life, he could have it back, but the dagger she found, that she took. Their prey would not remain armed in her presence, oh no.

"Dead?" Meera turned her face to Aren's upwards direction, even though she could hardly see him. It was a question on whether she should press the arrow head further into his flesh. To further convey her meaning, Meera slapped the flat side against his cheek before returning it to his neck.

Aren suddenly released his hold on Ward, simultaneously pushing him away from himself and Meera.

With an outstretched hand, the akalak gestured for the young man not to come any closer to them, "Stay. There," his voice carrying a tone of deadly seriousness.

Aren's eyes remained firmly affixed on this intruder, despite the fact that he was now several feet from him, and totally disarmed. The problem was that he was only disarmed in theory. The akalak knew, from personal experience, that there were simply some weapons that you couldn't confiscate.

Frankly, he had completely ignored Ward's entreaties to become his personal mercantile middleman, as he had no interest in any such thing, nor did he feel he could trust the man at his word. He was a poisoner. His method of killing was the method of a coward and a liar. Perhaps he was neither, but Aren was not prepared to bet his life on that.

"No thanks... Ward," the akalak knelt, taking his eyes off his opponent for the first time, needing to inspect the assortment of items Ysane had arrayed on the ground

First, Aren took the knife, looking it over briefly. After a few seconds, he tossed it into the mist with a single flick of his hand. Secondly, he inspected the blowgun. It was a strange weapon, but he knew it's purpose well enough, and swiftly flung it in the opposite direction of the knife. Next, the neatly packed set of needles. They were probably what the poison was for, and Aren did not hesitate to fling those in a third direction, deep into the mist.

Finally, he came to the several bottles of liquid the man carried. The substance inside was thick, and vile, and Aren was willing to bet that it was a very potent poison, indeed. Although his instinct was to smash the vials into pieces right there and then, he didn't know the reason why Ward carried them, even if it likely simply meant that they were the tools of his trade. Besides, he didn't know what even smelling them could do, and it was best to err on the side of caution when dealing with these things. So, instead of destroying them, Aren elected to gently roll them, one by one, all over the place.

The map Ward carried was nothing more than a map, which Aren gladly left there. He had also noticed the few coins Ysane took and said nothing about, but decided that they would keep them, as payment for the trouble this overly aggressive stranger had given them.

"If you want your stuff back... go get it," Aren said, coming to his feet, sounding rather unconcerned by the apparent laboriousness of the task.

"We're leaving now. If you even attempt to follow us... by Wysar as my witness, next time you see me you'll already be dead," the akalak threatened, with a growl, and it was not an empty one.
