Spring, 512 AV (the Djed Storm)

Since Kalinor is underground and thus unaffected by the djed storm, its reaction to the current events is a little different. Not a single person dies. All Symenestra in Kalinor as well as their visitors from the surface are safe. Not a single house is destroyed. In fact the Symenestra only realize what is happening a little later than the rest of Mizahar. Kalinor is secluded, and news reach it slowly.

When the Symenestra find out that Ivak was freed and the surface is in chaos, they are worried at first. Many demand that Kalinor isolates itself completely. The majority of the Symenestra think it would be best if they stayed underground until the worst is over or until their food runs out, but then they realize that they can take advantage of the situation.

Their city is whole, and they are in fighting shape while the rest of the world is suffering. In a surprising move they reach out to those that are in need and offer them a safe place to stay for as long as it is necessary. The empty houses at the edge of Kalinor are made available to guests. Any strangers that enter Kalinor are treated like old friends, and the Harvest seems nothing but an unjustified rumor.

But not everything is as it seems.

Gradually the Symenestra reveal their true motives. Women are demanded in exchange for food and a place to stay.

Summer, 512 AV

Things have calmed down considerably since the terrible djed storm. Refugees only come to Kalinor occasionally now, and the world hasn’t realized what exactly has happened to the female refugees yet. As for as they know the Symenestra have really had a change of heart. The ruling couple have realized what a great opportunity this presents and decided to undertake further efforts to change the surface dwellers‘ perception of the Symenestra.

Just like in winter Harvesters are sent out, but this time their only purpose is to gather knowledge. Those Harvesters are instructed to go to even greater efforts so that even rumours of what they do with human women will soon be forgotten. Symenestra that are currently on the surface are instructed to bring people that have useful knowledge back with them.

During the djed storm the Symenestra rarely left Kalinor, but now that it is safe again they reclaim the small areas on the surface where they do some limited form of agriculture. It is harder than before though. The djed storm changed the surface, and thus Ethaefal and people bearing the gnosis of Bala are asked for help.

Summer 1: Chemah vo Ranek takes place.

The Ivy Web wins thr prize for the best tapestry since neither of the Anthurium cousins have decided to participate this year, saying that it would be unfair since they run the weaving school.

Nissabella of the Rose Web is chosen as moth queen. Since Selaria of the Anice Web, the previous year’s moth queen, was poisoned, people fear for her safety.

Summer 2: The coccoons are being harvested in the Rose Cavern.

Summer 3: The third day of the festival. Kalinor culture is showcased in the gathering hall.

Summer 4: The last day of the festival.

Summer 10: One of the harversters that were sent out in winter returns, bearing bad news. His companion was changed by the djed storm, and the surrogate they were going to bring back is dead. The man is locked up by the Ochya, and nobody but Hellebore himself is allowed to visit him. Rumours say that the doctor is trying to find a way to return him to normal.

Summer 20: Avarys of the Anthurium Web disappears.

Summer 25: Avarys of the Anthurium Web is found in the lower caverns. Rumours say he was hiding there from Soraya of the Orchid Web whose advances have become even more persistant since the end of spring.

Summer 49: Sanairas Larkspur, the mad hypnotist, returns as a ghost and haunts Kalinor.

Summer 55: Soraya Orchid is sent on a gleaning. Things at the Weft and Warp calm down considerably.

Summer 60: Hellebore’s pet Konti has a vision.

Summer 65: Kanasa Curare announces another dance that will take place on the first of fall.

Summer 70: Traders from Wind Reach arrive in Kalinor. They stay at the Meadows Public House and are attended to by members of the Aconite Web.

Summer 80: Sarya Calycanth, Daratur Violet’s apprentice, receives her first mark from Viratas.

Summer 90: Traders from Alvadas arrive in Kalinor. They stay at the Meadows Public House and are attended to by members of the Aconite Web.

A scene from the dance that takes place on the 31st of fall.

Fall, 512 AV

After the terrible djed storm in spring and all the excitement surrounding the Moth Queen in summer fall is a fairly peaceful season. The area above Kalinor has been reclaimed, and efforts to deceive the world as far as Kalinor’s motives are concerned continue. Apart from that the Symenestra are already preparing for winter and hunting and harvesting so that nobody has to starve.

Two kinds of Harversters are returning to the city. Notok, the Harvest Festival, is the highlight of the season. The young men and women that have previously been sent out, return with their surrogates. Other Harversters bring news from all over the world. Books are written, and guests are welcomed. There are more strangers in Kalinor than in previous years.

Fall 31: A large dance production, arranged by Kanasa Curare, takes place. Avarys Anthurium is one of its stars.

Fall 40: The head of the Ivy Web, an old fisherman that is often seen in the Rose Cavern, suffers a heart attack and is brought to the Purging. His son and his grandson, a young dancer, temporarily take care of the Web.

Fall 50: The last of the traders that arrived at the end of summer leave.

Fall 55: The first day of Notok. Families welcome the Harvesters back, and a huge feast takes place in Kalinor.

Fall 56: The surrogates are presented to their families at a grand dance.

Fall 57: The women of Kalinor and their surrogates enter a contest to choose the most beautiful suorrgates.

Fall 59: After Notok the people of Kalinor meet in the gathering hall to listen to the stories of the Harvesters that have returned from the surface. Kalinor is finally fully aware of how the djed storm affected the world.

Fall 63: The ghost of Sanairas Larkspur, the mad hypnotist, manages to damage several buildings on the outskirts of Kalinor. The ruling couple ask for somebody who is able to control her.

Fall 71: Dra-Ina Vine, a young halfblood hunter, is found severely injured and unconscious near the Hunter’s Gather. Rumours say that she has been beaten up by those that want to purify Kalinor.

Fall 87: Rumours that the daughter of the ruling couple is finally looking for a husband among the young men of Kalinor surface. Whether she intends to remain faithful to him is more than questionable though.

Winter, 512 AV

Winter is a quiet season for the people of Kalinor. While snow and cold trouble the rest of Kalea, it’s just a little cool in Kalinor, but otherwise pleasant. The hunts throughout fall have gone well, and the Symenestra have enough food to last them until spring. No traders arrive in Kalinor until the beginning of spring, and few Symenestra go to the surface due to the sometimes extreme weather. They prefer to stay underground, tell stories to each other, weave and prepare for the following year’s Harvests.

Winter 1: Winter begins.

Winter 10: The head of the Ivy Web who everybody expected to die recovers miraculously after more than half a season in the Purging. Some whisper that Viratas himself intervened.

Winter 11: A large celebration is held at the Temple of Viratas. The Ivy Web and all of Kalinor thank Viratas for the old man’s recovery.

Winter 18: Snowstorms trouble most of Kalea.

Winter 25: As it turns out, Silenva Hyacinth is NOT getting married. She’s just dumped her most recent boyfriend, a member of the Ochya, once and for all.

Winter 44: Bored because there is nothing to do in winter, a boy explores the lower caverns. He returns with frightening stories of the monsters he claims to have seen down there![/b]

Winter 50: A storytelling contest during which the Symenestra share the stories they have gathered during their gleaning takes place.

Winter 63: A pair of hunters who are worried that their food won’t last until the end of the season after all decide to go to the surface. A snowstorm breaks out, and they are forced to seek refuge in a cave.

Winter 65: After the hunters don’t return, a search party is sent to the surface. The two men are found alive, but one of the men’s toes have to be amputated due to severe frostbite.

Winter 85: Do-Vedenza Kina, the Farewell Feast, takes place. The Harvesters leave for the surface.

Winter 92: Winter ends.

Summer, 513 AV

Summer starts with one of the most important events of the year: the Morning of the Moths. The previous two years were rather exciting. The Moth Queen of 511 AV, Selaria Anice, was poisoned. 512 AV saw two Moth Queens, Soraya Orchid and Nissabella Rose who was at least an Esterian sympathizer. After this everybody expects the Moth Queen to be a well liked, but not particularly controversial girl. As in 512 AV the Ochya will make sure that the Moth Queen is safe and will not suffer Selaria’s fate. The poor girl never recovered completely.

The harvest of the Ranekissra coccoons that are used to make the Symenestra silk begins in the Rose Cavern.

Summer also sees the return of the first Harvesters and their surrogates, although the majority of them aren’t expected to be back until early Autumn. A couple of Symenestra that have gone on a gleaning return as well, bring back strange and exciting stories from the surface and the races that inhibit it – as well as a few guests. This time a teacher from the University of Zeltiva is among them. She stays at the Meadows Public House and studies the Symenestra as much as they study her. At 50 years of age she is safe from the Harvest.

Furthermore traders from Wind Reach arrive. While the Endal and their eagles that have taken them across the mountains stay on the surface, their companions enter the city and open a stall at the Orchard Market. They are selling all kinds of things made of glass and are interested in buying silk, cloth and gems. Rumours say that they might be willing to part with the female Dek that is helping them unload their trade goods – if the price is right.

~~~~~
Summer 1: The first day of the Morning of the Moths: The weaving contest takes place, and the Moth Queen is chosen.
Summer 2: The second day of the Morning of the Moths: The Ranekissra coccoons are harvest in the Rose Cavern.
Summer 3: The third day of the Morning of the Moths: Kalinor culture is being showcases in the Gathering Hall. Histories are performed, music is played, and the weavers of the Weft and Warp have lessons and display their work.
Summer 4: The fourth day of the Morning of the Moths: The inhabitants of Kalinor crate dyes and offer them to the silk makers. In return, each donor receives a patch of finished cloth at the end of the season. These patches are quilted together and serve as a reference for each year.
Summer 25: The first Harvester returns to Kalinor a little earlier than expected. He brings a surrogate from Lhavit with him.
Summer 37: The second Harvester returns – from an intelluctual Harvest, a gleaning. He brings a teacher from Zeltiva with him that stays in Kalinor for the rest of the season.
Summer 45: Traders from Wind Reach arrive.
Summer 62: The Cobweb peforms a new dance production. It has been arranged by Avarys Anthurium and tells the story of Alesanya who was the ruler of Kalinor in the 450s.
Summer 91: Summer ends.
Fall, 513 AV
The people of Kalinor spend most of the season preparing for the coming winter. They often make trips into the mountains above the city and hunt and gather what they can find. Notok, the Harvest Festival, is as always the highlight of the season. The Harvesters that have left the year before – or even earlier than that – return home, brining human women, Kelvic and even more exotic creatures with them that will help ensure the existence of their race a while longer. Others return from their Gleanings, with stories and songs and information about strange places and people.
A huge feast takes place in honor of the returning Harvesters. The surrogates‘ beauty is judged in a contests. This year the Harvest Festival is even bigger than in the years before. Fall 56: The surrogates are presented to their families. A beauty contest to find the most beautiful surrogate takes place.
Fall 57: The masquerade takes place in the Gathering Hall.
Fall 58: The Symenestra that have returned from a Gleaning tell their stories to the people of Kalinor.
In the evening a mass takes place in the Temple of Viratas to honor the returning Harvesters.
Fall 73: Rovas Briar, the reimancer, spreads word that if anyone would like a kitten, he has a litter of seven that can be adopted at the Briar web.
Fall 75th: Word spreads that a child has been making trips to the abandoned parts of the city, though there is little evidence beyond what has been seen.
Fall 86: The vandalist has been caught, but not without consequence, the family of the accused are in an uproar.
Fall 88: There has been talk amongst small groups that the Esterians plan to overthrow the ruling couple.
Fall 91: Fall ends.
