The Phalanx
Image

Found in a high corner of the Petal of Tranquil Slumber, The Phalanx is one of the few specialized weapon shops held in the Spires. With the spires distinct lack of a proper forge many would think that holding up a weapons shop, besides a Fletcher or some such, might be fairly challenging. That without proper metals one could not have a proper shop. Well my friends, Vale is the type of man who lives to prove people wrong.

As you walk up to this little corner of the spires one of the first things you will notice is the intricate carvings that adorn the small entryway, the door alone a seemingly living, writhing curl of vines and flowers lovingly etched into the wood itself.

If you follow these carvings into the deepest depths of the tree, you will find yourself in a surprisingly open and well lit room. One might suggest taking a moment for your eyes to adjust, because you really do not want to randomly feel around in here. Once you can see again you will understand why... Each and every wall is covered in weaponry. Spears of all shapes, sizes, and makes adorn the walls like prized trophies.

Even more interesting is the materials with which many of the spears were crafted. You can spot blades of everything from Isurian Steel, to simple flint tips. Hafts made from every type of material imaginable. This is Vale's true art. His masterpieces. All yours for a price...

If you look around again you might notice the fact that the carvings, which you surely noticed before, continue along the walls of this room as well, passing under the racks of weapons, curling and seeming to pool into a beautiful design high on the furthest wall... Directly underneath which you will find the main counter where, more likely than not, Vales assistant will handle any purchases.

Vale... what is there to say? This man, he is what one could call the master of the oblivious. The living, breathing epitome of the ditzy artist... at least if all artists were built like a bull with a personality as calm as still water.

Vale is pleasant, considerate, and downright gentlemanly on most occasions, his lips never all that far from a smile. However, If you catch him while working you will find out the hard way that he is not always so pleasant. To interrupt Vale at work is to grab the proverbial bull by the horns. His attitude completely changes as he focuses his attention on his art and any who attempt to speak with him can only hope for one of two outcomes...

Either he will ignore them completely, or he will rage at them for interrupting his work. In the case of a rage it is suggested that one bring a shield... A big one...Just in case.

Vayet's story begins in the high fastness of Windreach, with the birth of a single highborn child... Vay was born a rare single child of an Endal couple and, as such, was afforded every luxury at a young age. She studied with the best tutors, trained under weapons masters. When she hit age eight, as all Inarta do, she was placed in the youth section of Windreach. Yet she refused to forget where it was she came from. She fought hard in training. She studied her lessons diligently.

As she grew it became apparent that she would be a skilled fighter and hunter, which she proved again and again with spear and knife and bow. No matter the challenge placed before her she refused to back down, her pride would not allow it. She climbed the high walls of their mountain home. She spent a week hunting along the Thunder Bay completely unarmed.

It is these acts of bravery, and possibly a bit of insanity, that eventually drew a young wind eagle to her. It did not take them long to decide that they were perfect for each other, both of them risk takers and daredevils. Dedicated and wild.

The two hunted together. They used their bond to talk and joke constantly, one never quite far from the others mind. She was closer to her eagle than she had ever been to anything or anyone. Her eagle was her life, her world. They reveled in their time together.

Yet all things must come to an end... often far sooner than one would like. It started a routine day. A routine hunt. But it was one that would end in the shattering of that world. By way of that selfsame bravery and brashness that had brought the two together they were cruelly torn apart.

Hunting with one of the Inarta's Wind Eagles takes skill, bravery, and can give the adrenaline rush of a lifetime. But that is exactly why it must be done with caution. No one is certain exactly why it happened or how... all that is known, even to Vay herself, is that one day they lost control. As they went into a dive to grab a deer something went wrong. A bad gust of wind, some minor miscalculation.

All that matter are the results. In the end Vay's mount barely managed to spread her wings in time to slow their fall. But it was not enough. The great eagle came crashing down, Vay upon its back. Vay managed to stand. Her eagle would never soar the skies again...

She returned to Windreach a broken woman. Her body sustained no more than a few scratches and bruises, yet her heart was crushed under the weight of her partners death. At the loss of a friend so close as to be one.

For a time she seemed as though she would never return, her body moved about its daily duties, yet her mind seemed to be gone. But every hurt can be mended, or at least salved, and ,eventually, Vay broke from her stupor. Her return to self was a new beginning. Once more shone the brass bravery that she was known for. The fire and energy returned to her eyes and not a moment went by that she was not doing something.

She had lost her goal and, as such, strove to find a new one. She trained in her weapon of choice. She hunted the mountains and forests and streams. She honed her skills until even the best would search her out so that she might teach them some of what she knew. Yet it was not enough. The mountains without her eagle did not seem like a home. The vastness could not compare with what she had seen on the back of an eagle. All reminded her of her loss...

So she set out. To find something new. Somewhere that would make her feel like she was home. For 5 years she traveled the roads of Mizahar, searching high and low. And eventually she found a place. The Spires. Here she found peace. Eventually she found Vale and decided that he needed someone to keep him in line. Eventually he consented to let her work for him. And she finally settled in one place.

Note* She tends to be gruff and straightforward, but not mean spirited. Do good by her and shell do good by you.

[The Spires] The Suggestion Box

Postby Ximal on January 13th, 2013, 10:34 pm

Well here's something new for the spires :D

Image

Image
Name: Serigala
Frequency: Rare
Threat level: Extreme
Major features: Four extra long fangs both the cainine placements, bottom two curved back upper two dead straight, all teeth pointed but significantly shorter than the two afore mentioned sets of fangs. Massive size.
Abilities: Savagely strong, hardy powerful legs and a strong enough frame to seat a jamoura on it's back comfortably and still run at thirty five miles per hour. Clear vision, at night and in heavy fog. Strong anti-venom to most if not all poisons from animals.
Most common in: In and around the spires though can be found throughout all taldera in small packs.

Physical characteristics:
Serigala are massive beasts, truely huge but only in comparison to other dogs and wolves, even dire wolves cower in their presence. Each one strong and very very weighty. The average height of a serigala is 60 inches (153 cm roughly) from the ground to shoulder height, and on average are 132 inches long (335 cm roughly) long from tip of nose to tip of tail. Each serigala has enough physical strength and hardy bone structure to carry a eight hundred pound jamour aand run with it on it's back, this shows in how they look, the are large broad creatures but are astonishingly agile as well. with legs that are almost four times as large as the average wolf they stand with bones that make even the isur jealous. Serigala can come in a lot of fur colours however there are NO white serigala.

At night the serigala also have impeccable vision and also in the fog, this allows them to fight againstn their natural enemy the mist stalkers, on even footing. Having said that a serigala is immune to most if not all animal poisons. But this effect does not carry over into an anti-venom for any other race.

Social Structure:
When looked at in the animal kingdom and compared to other wolves or dog families it looks like the serigala are alphas, when infact they are considered the lowest of the wolf pack by the animals, mostly because of caiyah putting this effect on them, however the wolves respect the serigala's power and leave it be.

When with their partners, they behave ...to a point. Each serigala is a seperate entity, but most holds a singler thing in common. They are wild. Not feral, no but they do not behave, they do as they please and only see a jamoura Or their owner as such if they manage to hold their respect. And to hold their respect a prospective owner needs to prove worthy of it. It is as of yet undocumented if a serigala will see anyone other than a jamoura above them and worthy interms of respect, barring the one who made them as they are. After their cursing into a serigala, everyone of the serigala respects caiyah's power above all.

History/lore

Serigala are beings who have angered caiyah and as such she has changed them and they are now morphed from theri former race into one of the serigala. The serigala now follow caiyah's wordings utterly but are bouned by a curse, they can no longer harm nature lest they harm themselves. Some guard the temple of caiyah though there are some lone roaving packs of them throughout the taldera reigon however they are rare and very very hostile. All seri are known to attack on sight mostly out of anger , the most common residual feeling after beign transformed. Though the serigala may be partnered by a strong willed, individual that they respect. And this respect is not earned through show of force nor through sheer power, no it uis earned through show of patience, intlligence and fore thought. which is why serigala are found sometimes partnered with jamoura of immense patience.

The serigala are also believed to be the cause of a lot of diappearances of people from the spires forests, though wether this is true or not remains to be proven fact. it is clear that almost as many fall to the mist stalkers as fall to the serigala.

Miscellaneous:
The serigala weren't always these huge monstrous wolves, no they were once people, but they were people who harmed nature enough to enrage caiyah and as such she made them into these monstrous creatures. Whist laying a curse upon them, if a serigala ever KNOWINGLY consumes plant matter, the shal instantly die. However this is not a fast process , no the plant matter turns to a very strong acid within them and burns through them erradicateign everything systemeaticallyfrom the throat tight the way through, and then takeing the pelt with it aswell. However if plant matter is unknowingly ingested then it causes them to sleep, for a long time, often a minimum of two days ( upto seven) depending upon the quantity of the plant matter.

The serigala are also some what adverse towards cold iron, it cuts just like normal steel or iron of glass or bone BUT it causes the area cut to paralize, even a small nick could paralize a whole area for hours at a time. Meaning a cut to the throat, head chest(ver the heart) are all instantly fatal to the creature.

Serigala can breed whislt in wolf form HOWEVER there is a ratio of two males to every 1 female.

No there are no kelvics of this creature as it's a cursed individual.

Requires moderating for acuiring one as a pet or compainon.

Ortal's home
Image
According to his non existant birth certificate, this house should be called Luhrak's home but Ortal hasn't used that name in a couple dozen years so it is officially called Ortal's home.

Ortal's home is situated near the edge of the petal, away from most other houses, located in a secluded and remote spot of the petal. At least for now, perhaps future expansion will bring closer neighbors to the house. From the outside the house is plain boring and unlike any of the other houses on the petal. A simple square shape, the house leaves no room for imagination. Visible from the outside are four windows, each covered by nature grown vines that double as sun blinders and curtains for nozy people who would like to sneak a peek inside. The double doors at the entrance are rarely ever open to visitors and Ortal has not seen with any visitors or friends yet.

The double doors of the house lead one into a small hallway that leads immediately into the meeting hall. The meeting hall is a square shaped room with the two smallest windows leading into it. Quite boring it is also very cosy. The warm fire is almost always burning, as Ortal is cold throughout the year. The two chairs on the other side of the room are used as a reading corner, evident from the books lying around. From the meeting hall to the right is the library which also doubles as Ortal's study. This is where most of Ortal's time is spent. To the left of the meeting room is Ortal's bedroom, off limits to guests. straight across from the entrance is a door and a stairs leading down. The door leads into the kitchen and the stairs lead down half a story into the dining room. The dining room has room for six people at the table but has not seen any use yet. There are only five chairs but a sixth chair could be taken from the study or the meeting hall. From the dining room there are two doors, one to the left, leading back up to Ortal's bedroom and one to the right, leading into the kitchen as well.

The only room not reachable from the meeting room is the little garden, a place of meditation for Ortal. The garden has a small water basin, flanked by two statues which in turn are flanked by two bushes. The garden is only reachable by flying over the house and landing in it, as it has no ceiling or through a door in Ortal's bedroom. Light inside the house is provided through windows in the library, bedroom and meeting room. The kitchen and dining room are supplied with light through a ceiling window and candles or lamps. Just like the outside, all the rooms are square and probably considered boring but are provided with decorations. The dining room, for example, has two large curtains depicting two different scenes to compensate for the lack of windows with a view.

Unknown to anyone but Ortal so far, the house has two secret rooms in the north part near the edge of the petal. These rooms contain a laboratory and a working area where Ortal works on his malediction and does his research that he wants to keep away from prying eyes. The rooms are connected to four secret doors in the bedroom, library, kitchen and dining room. To Ortal the house provides a space in a relative safe location away from prying eyes and people that could possibly hurt him or shun him. He only comes out if really necessary or to reaquaint himself, a little habit he picked up somewhere else in the world.
