Description: The mud flats are also called tidal flats because they react to the environment as the tide ebbs and flows. This is also another rich food source for those who know where to look. Mud flats are found near salt marshes which again are simply teeming with life. To the food minded Inarta, it’s a rich bounty that waits on the knowledgeable to harvest it. On the surface, there is the salt marsh which contains cattail reeds. When the tips turn brown and yellow, they’re ripe for harvest as a delicious, almost buttery topping to add to breads with a bit of animal fat. The reeds themselves are fantastically strong and excellent for weaving water tight baskets and containers of various coloring. Seabirds themselves are a delicious for the avid hunter as well their eggs gathered by smart foragers looking to supplement their diet with protein. Don’t be fooled into thinking that there’s only birds to be found here! While birds are the dominant life form in this area, there are also grass shrimp, reptiles, crabs, fish and some secretive nocturnal mammals like marsh rabbits, raccoons, mink, muskrat and voles. The Mud Flats contain a secret food that needs only a sharp eye: several varieties of crustaceans and mollusks are hidden about an inch beneath the surface! They make small air pockets that leave a tiny indent in the sand so they can breathe the surface air. Use your eyes and find yourself fresh raw oysters, clams, mussels and other goodies fresh from the sea! NPC's: None needed for this area.
