[Thunder Bay] The Ice Palace

Description: Though Thunder Bay does its best to resist freezing during the Winter season, the temperatures simply drop too far, making resistance futile. Adding this hardship on top of the mountainous pile of difficulties that the Inartan’s already have to face, the freezing of Thunder Bay makes it nearly impossible to fish during the cold seasons. Granted, some dedicated Inartas take a pick and as many furs as they can carry, hacking a little hole in the ice through which they try to catch fish but the effort is almost always more costly than the outcome. It wasn’t until the Spring of 511 that hope appeared in the form of a young Vantha woman on a boat bound for Thunder bay. Seeking her fortune elsewhere, Claudette Iceglaze, an Icereaver who heard of Wind Reach’s plight from a traveling Endal pair. Given work as an Avora, Claudette permanently resides in the Bay year ‘round, providing services for the Inarta and their visitors. Preferring to live on the edge of the activity in Thunder Bay, Claudette lives in a simple house built into one of the little hills that litter the base of Mt Skyinarta. Here, she deals with business from Spring to Fall, inviting customers inside for a sit down and maybe a drink while they discuss the matters at hand. The 'house' can barely be seen unless the searcher knows what they are looking for. A small, stony hillock on the outskirts of Thunder Bay has been ingeniously transformed into Claudettes underground home. With only a single window showing above ground, the entrence is hidden around the backside of the hill itself. The interior of the house is dark and rather cold year round, though this has no effect on Claudette at all; her two Icereaving marks prevent her from being effected by the cold at all. For visitors sake, there is a hearth stocked with wood ready to be brought to life as a roaring fire. The house is separated into an eating living area, a bedroom and a small washroom. Candles and small sconces litter every surface and the walls to ward off the darkness that falls as soon as the day passes over into evening. Despite the close quarters, Claudette is happy to share what she has with any visitor, welcoming them graciously into her home and making them as comfortable as possible. Blankets, pillows and furs curtesy of those who appreciate her hospitality and hard work are piled on the handful of comfy chairs that are set out for visitors. The Winter months find Claudette on the docks themselves in a small shack during the daylight hours. As Endal or Avora arrive to fish, their first stop is this building, stating exactly how many people intend to fish and for how long. Claudette takes care of the rest. Services : Spring/Summer/Fall Claudette is in charge of keeping fresh and clean water available for the bay while also making sure that there is water for washing in the bathing stalls outside the Mountainside Vistas. Small cubed ice for drinks and food as well as beautiful ice sculptures are supplied to both the Seaside Tavern and the Coastal Clam. Winter The main focus in the Winter is supplying the hunters of Wind Reach and Thunder Bay with safe and accessible fishing spots. Claudette will melt holes in the ice through which the Inartans can fish, also strengthening the surrounding areas to prevent any cracks or breaks that could be life threatening.
