82nd Day of Summer, 512 AV
Just past midnight...

Tock limped her way into the infirmary, her stomach wound aching and burning. She wasn't here for treatment, however. She was here to keep a promise. A promise that might be the last one ever made to a certain little boy.

Her eyes were rimmed red by the time she made her way inside, her heart hammering tight inside her chest. One of the nurses tried to intercept her as she raced inside. The woman stepped into Tock's path, and she just shoved her aside into the wall. "Tock, wait..." the nurse said, trying to grab her arm. Tock yanked her arm away, limping towards Mikey's room.

One of the doctors planted himself in the doorway of the room and grabbed her by the shoulders. She screamed and squealed, trying to push past him. She refused to think about why they were trying to stop her. She didn't want to consider it. When he refused to let her past Tock tried to take a swing for the doctor's face, breathing in sharp gasps through clenched teeth, tears streaming down her cheeks. It took three people to stop her and hold her back. They were trying to talk to her, offering some excuses or explanations, but she couldn't best their words through the pounding of her own heart in her ears.

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Nira'lia on July 25th, 2012, 6:41 pm

“What’s going on…?”

Nira’lia had a concerned look on her face as she watched the events unfold. Her eyebrows were knitted in worry, and she didn’t know what to say. She raised a hand and attempted to move forward to restrain Tock as well, but she couldn’t bring herself to do so. The faces of those who worked in the infirmary were familiar to her, yet she felt lost and foreign.

The Konti looked at Kaeson quizzically. They had followed Tock here, and on the way, it was evident that there was turmoil within the gadgeteer. Nira’lia was never good at these types of conflict. As she stood there and watched, she felt pathetic. Again, she could do nothing but be a witness. She hated herself so much at the moment.

Another matter was also nagging her mind. Since a person could tell if there was another one similarly marked as them, she could feel another one of Rak’keli’s marked in the room. Nira’lia looked around the infirmary, trying to search for the individual.

Her searching was cut short when a nurse started to cry. The woman sniffed and huddled herself in the corner, and still, Nira’lia couldn’t tell what was going on. Was the woman frustrated at Tock’s actions? Or was she crying because of something else that had happened? Besides, who was this Mikey that everyone else was mentioning?

“Tock…” muttered Nira’lia. Her voice was soft but imposing. At last, she found it in herself to speak up. She looked to her friend and said, “You have to calm down… you have to listen to them… if you don’t, you won’t understand.”

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Iris Timandre on July 26th, 2012, 2:26 am

82nd of Summer, 512
Slowly walking around the Imfirmary it was a long day on the job for Iris Timandre. She was just about ready to retire to her Inn until she felt something. Someone marked just as she was. That sparked her interest, Iris just had to find out who had the mark. Who out there was like her?

The Konti healer made her way out of the room until she stopped only to see that Tock, Iris' human friend was in an arguement. Iris tried to walk up to see Tock but she was stopped due to bumping into someone.

At first the Konti was angry that the person just stood there. Iris had developed somewhat of an attitude during her eighty two days in Zeltiva. Due to the people, Mainly Tock, who she spent some time with. The angry Konti glared at the woman in front of her until. She noticed that the woman was a blonde. Iris tilted her head to the right only to see some scales on the woman's neck.

The Timandre has not seen any of her kind during her entire time in the city. Unable to mask her emotions, being around the humans got to her, she smiled wide and said. "Oh my. Hello!" Now, Iris wasn't soft spoken anymore. But that's all she left it at waiting for the blonde to reply. Though, Iris still had her eye on Tock. This cut the possible conversaiton short as Iris said "What's the problem here?" Cutting her eye and watching Tock.

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Kaeson Dakano on July 26th, 2012, 8:52 pm

Kaeson shivered as he pasted the infirmary doors, entering the stainless world of white. He quietly followed Tock as she lead them through the infirmiary. Kaeson wrinkled his nose; everything was stained with the pungent smell of medicinal alcohol and other sanitizers.

He exchanged an uneasy glance with Nira'lia, uncomfortably bright blue eyes stained with shades of yellow fear. Kaeson made no attempt to hold Tock as she ran for a closed door, afraid to mistakenly touch someone else. Tock, he knew, was clean. She wasn't sick like most of Zeltiva, or at least so she seemed. Ever since they had closed the city to tourists and newcomers, Kaeson had been on edge. How bad was this disease that hovered over the port city? How many lives had it already claimed? How could he make sure he wouldn't be next?

By avoiding the infirmary.

And yet here he was.

"Why are we here?" Kaeson called out weakly, looking for answers in both Tock and Nira'lia. Any confidence from their night out had long since vanished, any joviality from his voice long gone. He was more scared then he should be, more nervous then the situation called for. But he saw the tears fall from Tock's eyes, he heard the screams come from her mouth.

Part of him wanted to console his friend, try and take the pain away. Kaeson knew death, and understood how it felt to loose someone. Mostly though, Kaeson wanted to get away.

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Minerva Agatha Zipporah on July 26th, 2012, 11:53 pm

Tock ignored the questions coming from behind her. They didn't matter. Nothing else mattered right now. Nothing but Mikey.

She stopped struggling against the people holding her back, but held herself stiff and ready to bolt the second their grips might loosen. The doctor was still talking, but she couldn't make out what he was saying. It felt like the room was spinning. She couldn't think straight. She'd never felt like this before. Except...

Except when Granddad died.

She felt the hands on her arms loosen for a moment and she lunged forward, screaming in fury. They grabbed her again, and the next thing she knew the doctor slapped her hard across her face.

She slumped, dizzy, and stopped fighting. She was breathing in sharp gasps, and the weight all around her made her feel like she was about to collapse. The hands that had been holding her back were now the only thing keeping her on her feet.

She finally looked up, holding still, her energy spent. "You need to calm down, and listen," the doctor said, repeating Nira's earlier words. Tock looked around at her friends, tears streaking down her face. She didn't want them to see her like this, but right now it didn't matter. Her embarrassment didn't matter. Nothing mattered.

She peered up at the doctor and asked, "Is...?" She choked on the words, sobs coming forth. It felt like she had a boulder lying on her chest.

The doctor took a deep breath and said, "He's slipped into a coma. He... almost certainly won't wake from it..."

Her breathing became ragged again, and she broke down crying. She tried to move forward, but they were still holding her. "LEMME SEE 'IM!" she shouted, looking up at the doctor with unspeakable desperation.

He led her inside, the nurses holding back to make room for the other visitors, if they chose to enter. Inside, the small boy was lying in bed, sleeping. He was so still it was easy to mistake him for dead. As soon as she was released, Tock rushed forward, touching her fingers to his neck to make sure he was still there. She felt the faintest pulse, and she collapsed to her knees beside the bed. She lifted his tiny hand, pressing it against her face, unable to think about anything else but waking him up.

In a soft voice, the doctor said, "We tried to find you. Sent someone to your house, but... no one was there. He was asking for you. Asking if you were coming. Right up until he slipped away..."

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Nira'lia on July 27th, 2012, 4:54 pm

Nira’lia gave a surprised squeak as someone bumped into her. Instantly, visions flooded her sight again. Even before she turned around to see who had bumped into her, she already knew that the person was of her race. Images about two Konti swimming together blocked her view. When they were gone, Nira’lia spun around to see which Konti it was.

“Hello,” answered Nira’lia to Iris. She could feel that this Konti was marked by Rak’keli as well. This Konti was the one she could sense. Then she returned her attention to Tock, just like Iris had done.

Like everyone else around them, everyone seemed to listen to the depressing words that the doctor gave Tock. The apprehensive expressions on all of them was evident, as if they were waiting for Tock to do something much more drastic because of the news, as if she was a bomb waiting to explode.

Nira’lia followed Tock inside, and she peered at the young boy on the bed. He looked at peace despite the terrible truth behind it. As the doctor spoke, anger boiled up inside Nira’lia. His words had no purpose behind them. They only served to make Tock feel worse. Nira’lia bit her lips and said nothing, but the irritation burned in her eyes.

“Rak’keli, we need you…” she whispered softly under her breath. Nira’lia had heard of the rumors. The citizens of Zeltiva were mysteriously growing ill. It wasn’t until now that she actually realized that it was true. The Konti backed away from Tock—at the moment she had nothing to say to her.

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Iris Timandre on July 28th, 2012, 2:20 am

82nd of Summer, 512
Watching Tock recieve the news was heart burning for Iris TImandre. The doctor said some heart breaking things to Tock. All Iris could do was look down, she had absolutely nothing to add to the topic. She feared that she'd have no way to cheer Tock up in this very serious situation.

The Timandre did feel the other Konti, she had the mark of Rak'keli. So far this Konti was the second being in Zeltiva that has had that mark. So Iris thought because she didn't sense anyone else with the mark of the healing Goddess.

All Iris could say was. "Why does it have to be like this?"

Right then and there Iris wondered why the healing Goddess couldn't help this person who Tock cared so much about. To Iris it just didn't add up. All of the bad people out there that were healthy.

Iris followed the other Konti's lead and turned around. Not wanting to face Tock or see her sad. Instead Iris walked up to her fellow Konti and examined her. The meeting between the two Konti eased some of Iris' home sickness.

She said to Nira. "It's sad we have to meet at such a sad time. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to tell you my name. I'm Iris Timandre."

Most of the Konti people knew of the Timandre so Iris thought the other Konti would know something of her family. Iris did think that Nira was visiting Zeltiva for the first time too just like she was.

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Kaeson Dakano on July 31st, 2012, 4:03 am

Kaeson watched nervously as the doctor softly spoke to Tock, silently listening to what the doctor had to say.

He watched as his friend broke down crying, begging to be allowed to see the boy. He watched as they led her into the room, where the boy laid on the bed.

Had Kaeson not already known the boy to be in a coma, he would have assumed him for dead. The small boy slept unmovingly, his skin deathly pale. Kaeson watched as Tock rushed forward, touching the boy's neck gently.

"Is there nothing you can do?" Kaeson asked Nira'lia and Iris quietly, still unwilling to pass into the room. The Konti race was renowned for both their Sight and talent in healing, and Kaeson knew that the white women were sometimes favored by Rak'keli. He had no way of knowing that both Konti held her blessing, but he hoped.

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Minerva Agatha Zipporah on July 31st, 2012, 5:03 am

Her tears stained the frail little hand, and she closed her eyes, shaking as sobs wracked her body. She kissed his tiny fingers, wishing she could breathe life back into him somewhere. It wasn't fair... he was still warm, but his hand was so limp, so lifeless. She couldn't even see his chest moving to know he was still breathing.

She heard the others talking, but their voices were nothing more than a buzz in her ears. She couldn't deal with this... it wasn't FAIR! She got up and rushed over to the doctor, grabbing him by his shirt.

"Ya gotta fix 'im!" she screamed in his face. Her hands were shaking, her face red and wet with tears. "Ya can does somethin', I know ya can! Whatcha, needs more medicine fer 'im? 'Ere, I's buy 'is medicine!" She pulled her coin purse out and dumped the contents into the doctor's hands until it was empty of all she had on her. "'Ere! 'ERE take it! Buy 'im whatever 'e needs! Medicine, a 'ealer... I dun care what it is, I's pay for it! Ya jus' gotta fix 'im!" Sobbing overcame her again, and she buried her face in her hands.

"It's..." the doctor said, shaking his head. "It's not that simple. Sometimes, medicine just isn't enough..."

Tock fell to her knees, lost, without knowing what to do. There had to be a way! She scooped up some of the coins that had fallen on the floor and shoved them in the doctor's pockets. "PLEASE!" she screamed. "Ya gotta! Ya gotta make 'im better!" She couldn't even support her weight anymore and fell to the ground, her head spinning.

She didn't know what to do.

But she couldn't let him go...

If the two Healers in the room want to try to heal Mikey, they can, but it'd take a 4-Mark Healer to make any difference at this point. Poor kid.

[Infirmary] Desperate Bargaining (Nira, Iris, Kaeson)

Postby Nira'lia on July 31st, 2012, 6:23 pm

Unfortunately, Nira’lia had never actually been to Mura. She was familiar with Konti customs, culture, and tradition, but she had no way of knowing about the free Konti who lived on the isle. So to that, she nodded at Iris, ignorantly dismissing her family’s name. It was strange to Nira’lia, though. She didn’t meet a lot of her kind who had a family name.

“Nira’lia,” she said, introducing herself.

Kaeson’s question cut through her painfully. He was right, why weren’t they even trying to do anything? In her mind though, she knew the answer. He couldn’t be helped by the power that Rak’keli channeled through her. She knew the limitations of her mark well enough.

Tock was hysterical. Her cries echoed through the room, burning into the ears of the people in the room. And when Nira’lia stepped forward to inspect the child, she couldn’t tell what was wrong with him. Out of curiosity, she placed a hand on his arm and watched the visions that showed before her eyes.

It was a vision of his time with Tock.

That didn’t surprise her in the least.

“Hmm…” she said thoughtfully as she observed the child before her. “What can we do…?”
