Character HistoryHadassah never knew her parents. She was abandoned on the footsteps of the orphanage in Sunset Quarters, destined to be raised in a community of those like her; they were each poor, dependent on their nurturers, and very, very alone in the world. She always had trouble making friends, though quickly learned there was harsh consequence for disobedience and rule breaking. One friend, she found in a boy three years older than her, named Cayden. He showed her all of his tricks to better their lot; pick pocketing, stealing, breaking into forbidden places. She found him so exciting that it no longer mattered what consequences came of deviance.
She grew up this way; spending every waking moment at Cayden's side, making all types of troubles for those around them, yet occasionally assisting someone in need. However, at a certain age, it would no longer be tolerated. The pair was caught red handed while stealing, at due to Cayden's age of 15, he was immediately sentenced to prison. Hadassah, being a young lady, only got lashings and was sent back to the orphanage alone.
Upon Cayden's return months later, he brought with him an older, grizzled man, who offered to take the two away from there, free of charge. Hadassah, though wary, trusted her close friend, and they were swept away to a secretive group who called themselves the Hand of Recompense.
A few years later, Hadassah was a trained killer, filled with passion against the unjust enemies of the Hand. She was in a team of four, sent on various missions to assassinate, steal, deliver, retrieve, or communicate. All the while, they were continually being trained in each of their specific skill set. Hadassah loved it; she loves the closeness of her team, the thrill of a job and a victory. She loved delivering justice to the oppressors, and helping those in need. However, after one particular mission took an unexpected turn and went south, Hadassah was brought to a rude awakening.
The Hand was not stealing from the rich to give to the poor; it was all for the benefit of a political war, putting down opponents of a wealthy benefactor whose identity Hadassah never knew. When her team discovered this, it caused divisions, and Haddy, broken-hearted, left the Hand. Not long after, other assassins were sent after her. Then more, whens he survived. Then, her own team. She unintentionally killed her closest friend, and in a fit of rage, stormed the Hand and killed her trainer and everyone who was on the premises. Afterwards, she collapsed in the street outside the hidden headquarters, on the verge of death.
She awoke in a hospital, under the care of a friendly nurse. Hadassah had lost the will to live, yet the nurse continually struggled to keep her alive. She refused further treatment after two weeks, and paid the nurse in full before departing for the closest tavern, the Drunken Fish, where she sits and drinks, despairing.
