The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

I think I might have put in too much information for this, but I'd prefer to leave it in and take bits out later rather than pack it out, if this idea gets approved.

The Cosmos's Gateway

Image

Rumors follow the Gateway that the designer of the building was allergic to straight lines. The only exception being the floor. Whether fact or fiction, the Gateway is a no less impressive sight for onlookers, day or night. Perched on the highest flatland that could accommodate for its size in the Sartu Peak, skyglass crafted to reflect makes the majority of the building, with the left side of the building completely transparent, overlooking the Misty Peaks, the Alpine Wilderness, and eventually looking out to the Western Ocean. Over the course of the day, the building reflects the sky and sun, shining in bright harmony with Syna. By night, it recedes into night's embrace, decorated by Zintila's stars, reflecting the serenity of Leth's thoughts. No expense was spared with the Gateway, to stretch its durability to the absolute limits, allowing the structure to be able to contain and handle the other-worldly creatures that it was designed to house.

It is here that Corin Row makes his home. Devoted to the discipline of Summoning, as well as finding and reaching new worlds, the Gateway is divided in to two sections. The first two curves of the building are for Summoning purposes or anything similar. If you open something that you can fall in, or something can fall out, it is done within this section. No questions asked, no exceptions made, unless the situation is dire. Even then, only a trusted few are allowed to do so. Corin is aware of the dangers present when working with sentient beings, and is not going to allow a single person to work outside his rules, within his grounds, because they think they are capable. Viewing balconies run the length of both sides of this section, for those who are not directly involved with opening portals on the ground floor, but are either curious to see or are taking notes. It is also noted that this section has been shielded by a group of Master Shielders, that refuse passage to any who is not of a race whose blood has been worked into the shields. This has required the retrieval of blood from the different races in Lhavit, but only if the individual is willing, unless they want to use the Summoning Floor with no previous blood added from their race. For this reason, anyone is capable of walking into the shield, but any creature summoned, dhani, symenestra, or zith would require help to leave again.

The third curve houses the second section. It is here that, through the use of Infinitite crystals, Alchemists and Summoners are constantly trying to find the astral coordinates of new worlds. The process is long, tedious, and very delicate to meet the requirements needed for producing results. Unfortunately, new coordinates are not often found, and are therefore close held secrets to those involved in their discovery, to prevent abuse of these coordinates. Research is also conducted in this section. Reading texts that have already been written, and deciding what could have more added to it, if the Summoners have anything to add to it. Corin Row is less likely to be found in this section, as he keeps to the Summoning section, whenever portals are being opened, to meet new beings. When no-one is on the Summoning Floor, he is found in his books with his Familiar, Ruik, reading, drawing the creatures he's seen, and taking notes.

Corin makes no attempt to hide his life goal of rediscovering the lost discipline of Dominion, and is quite eager to talk with Zintila, when given the chance, and Ethaefal, hoping he can retrieve any information that might help his research.

Whilst primarily used for research, Corin is enthusiastic about sharing most of his knowledge with others who are interested. Unfortunately, even though he does not like asking for money, he is also aware of how much debt he is in for the construction of the the Cosmos's Gateway, and charges for any shared information as a part of a class until his debt is paid off.

Born and raised in Nyka, Corin was fascinated by the Celestials and the tales of the gods. He read further into stories and discovered the existence of worlds other than Mizahar, and quickly delved into the topic. When books could no longer satisfy his curiosity, due to having questions they couldn't answer, Corin chose to learn Summoning, travelling to Sahova to learn under the Nuits. His drive lead to his contracting with Ruik, an Irylid whose memory, observational skills, and logic furthered Corin's research greatly.

He later learned of the Ukalas, the realm of the gods, and how there use to be a magic that could access it. Still with the stories of a child in his head, but an adult's ambition to achieve something beneficial to some, Corin made it his goal to research the skill of accessing different worlds in the hope of reviving the lost discipline. He settled in Lhavit where the Ethaefal would benefit most from his research as they strived to be with their lost God or Goddess, and where Zintila herself resided. Both, who had once been within the Ukalas and may have some desire to return, might have been able to provide even the smallest amounts of information that could help.

Corin is rather reserved, answering people with responses that sound practised, as if he isn't saying them himself but has something to automatically reply for him. It's not that he is trying to be rude, it's that he is too caught up in research most of the time. Happen to mention an interest in his field of expertise, or catch him when he is not working, Corin treats anyone like a new best friend, even his employees. The only thing he requires is that people follow his rules, as they have been put there with the intention of preventing serious injuries or worse.

Ruik

Corin's Irylid familiar. As all Irylids, he is quiet to the point of stubborness. Very rarely talking, very rarely sharing his many observations that he makes every chime. On the occasions he does say anything, it is usually telepathically to Corin only. He almost never converses with anyone else. To get an answer from him implies he has a good opinion of you, regardless of how small. He has enjoyed his time with Corin and is exceptionally loyal to him. He is Corin's friend and partner in everything they do, and is more than happy to use his abilities to help Corin at his request.

[Lhavit] Remarkable Things

Rostam's Lair
Image

Rostam's Lair is not a formal business name, but a nickname that has come to be used for the eccentric spiritist's abode and workspace. Located in a small apartment on the Sartu Peak, not far away from Elena Lariat's studio, the Lair is completely unremarkable when seen from the outside, save for the tattoo-like Myrian design carved on the door. Beyond the door, a strange scene unfolds - an incredibly messy room, packed from floor to ceiling by all kinds of gubbins, both mundane and magical. The air is permeated by the unfamiliar aromas of foreign herbs. The visitor would need to watch their step carefully so as not to trip on the various gubbins that litter the ground, or tip over any the voluminous beakers and bottles that crowd the tables. The dust-covered windows let through only the minimum of light, turning the room into a theatre of dark silhouettes. If the visitor is nimble enough not to get stuck in the chaotic arrangement nor get tangled in the chains of crystal beads hanging from the ceiling, they would pass by an altar covered by greasy candles and eerie pieces of bone and leather. Finally, at the far wall, is the relatively well-lit main desk, as cluttered as everything else here. The faint smell of blood and soulmist linger around it, reminding the visitor of why they came here.

Spiritism - 74

Unarmed Combat - 35
Alchemy - 27

Rostam is a Myrian spiritist and maledictor that has settled in Lhavit several years ago. When asked why he chooses to live here, he will say that he likes the city's "egalitarian ways", which sounds convincing enough to anyone who has at least a vague understanding of the Myrian society that he abandoned. Other than that, he shares little about his past and his real reasons for coming here. His small apartment on the Sartu Peak serves both as his workplace and residence, showing that he cares nothing about prestigious appearances. Despite his shabby façade, he is highly regarded as a spiritist, offering rare services both to the living and the dead. His workings of malediction are much more obscure, as he rarely talks about it, but he will be willing to share some of his techniques with fellow practicioners of the art.

He is a very disorganised person, and his laboratory shares many characteristics with the jungle he came from. It is his natural environment and doesn't hinder him, but raises many eyebrows of more proper wizards. Rostam is not an academic mind and does everything hands-on, both at work and in private. Even towards complete strangers, he adopts an informal and teasing attitude, often failing to observe basic etiquette, although never to the point of breaking the unwritten rules of the society he lives in. While both his appearance and mannerisms reflect his savage roots, they carry with them an exotic charisma.

Rostam's talent as a mage, along with his savvy nature, has earned him some respect among the established wizardly circles of Lhavit, which allows him to interweave with the finer social fabric of the city. More specifically, the foreign eccentric has a strange friendship with Elena Lariat. The two can sometimes be seen engaging in satirical chatter in her studio, but a perceptive onlooker will recognise that their relationship is deeper than that, though in unclear ways.

Services
Soulmist Infusion (30 days) - 20 kina
Rostam can infuse an item with soulmist, allowing it to touch ethereal beings on the same terms as it would a corporeal one. Most commonly, weapons or pieces of armor are imbued, but the same can be done with nearly any other portable object, or even one of the customer's bodyparts - their hand, for example.

Soulmist Infusion (one season) - 50 kina
Using especially high-quality soulmist, the effect can be made to last a very long time.

Souldart - 2 kina
An arrow, bolt, throwing knife or other pointed projectile can be infused with soulmist to create a souldart, which can be used to strike ghosts at range and even pin them to a surface. The customer must provide their own missiles. The soulmist a souldart decays very slowly over time, but is expended after one use.

Safe Zone Kit - 10 kina
Useful as a safety device for travelers, or simply someone who wants to keep ghosts out of a particular place. It's a set of imbued iron nails or beads, enough to be arranged in a circle around a two-person camp. Ghosts will not be able to enter the boundary.

Expel Ghost - 30 kina
Remove a ghost or multiple ghosts possessing an unwilling victim. Although this is a rare problem in Lhavit, it does happen occasionally, and Rostam knows how to deal with it.

Hunt Ghost - 10-50 kina
While the Shinya are fully capable of defeating a violent ghost head-on, the more stealthy troublemakers can be nearly impossible to find for anyone without a sixth sense. Rostam can sniff out and entrap even the most elusive ghosts. He is mostly employed by the Shinya for this type of work, but it has happened that he took private missions as well. Cost varies with difficulty. Rostam will not accept a mission that would take him outside of the city.

Lessons
Rostam dislikes systematic education, and gives lessons on a case-by-case basis. The cost below is per lesson.

Spiritism (Novice) - 5 kina
Spiritism (Competent) - 10 kina
Spiritism (Expert) - 15 kina
Spiritism (Master) - 20 kina

Malediction (Novice) - 5 kina
Malediction (Competent) - 10 kina
Malediction (Expert) - 15 kina
Malediction (Expert) - 20 kina

Ghost Services
Soulmist Meal - 2 kina or a service of similar value
Soulmist made on animal blood. While it doesn't carry any special properties, it's quite an explosion of flavor, and can mend a weakened or wounded ghost. Since many ghosts don't carry money, Rostam accepts payment in the form of a small errand, typically delivering a message or doing some chores around his room.

Gourmet Soulmist Meal - 10 kina or a service of similar value
Soulmist made on Rostam's own blood. A high luxury for any ghost, this exquisite substance instantly restores the imbiber to full vitality and gives them a surge of abnormal power. Ingesting it will increase a single of the ghost's racial skills (the ghost chooses which) by one rank for seven days, though no higher than to Expert rank. In return, a moneyless ghost may be asked to help with one of Rostam's magical projects, or gather information around the city for him for several days.

Commissioned Soulmist Meal - 15+ kina or a service of similar value
Soulmist made on the blood of a particular creature or type of creature, as requested by the ghost. Upon ingesting it, the ghost will gain a portion of that creature's skills for seven days. The cost can vary widely depending on how difficult the blood is to obtain. Ghosts who don't have the kina may need to enter some form of indentured servitude to Rostam if the blood was particularly troublesome to find, though he will generally first let the ghost do whatever business they so desperately needed those extra skills for.

Special Soulmist Meal - free
A standard soulmist meal, but mixed with alchemical substances that Rostam likes to experiment with. Any ghost who is short on time and money, or is simply feeling adventurous, may imbibe this concoction free of charge. The caveat is that this "modified" soulmist can and will have strange and unforeseen effects on the ghost, a risk that Rostam makes clear from the beginning.

Ghost Lessons
Rostam can teach a ghost the intricacies of wearing a body by allowing the ghost inside him. The cost below is per lesson.

Possession (Novice) - 5 kina or a service of similar value
Possession (Competent) - 10 kina or a service of similar value
Possession (Expert) - 15 kina or a service of similar value
Possession (Master) - 20 kina or a service of similar value
