Small Aquatics Name: Bluntnosed Turtle (Aka Tiny Turtle) Location(s): Shallows & Small Crevices Appears: Uncommonly Description: The small turtles are smaller than your finger but have a nasty bite with a locking jaw. They have giant black eyes to help them spot predators from a pretty good ways away. They have black scales with a orange or brown shell and a tan strip located right behind their eye. Despite their beak looking small and fragile, it is actually hardened bone with a razor sharp point. They have tiny but sharp claws perfect for digging and escape predators in small or right crevices. They have wide feet to help them propel through the water and a wide tail much like a beaver to act as another propeller even. These little turtles prey on small plants that they cut with their beak. They occasionally will even eat smaller beings of their species and small fish unlucky enough to swim by. Bluntnose Turtles can swim at a surprising speed of 20 miles per hour. Behavior: Bluntnose Turtles are actually pretty aggressive to help survive with their size. They are energetic and flee quickly if anything larger than them gets within a certain radius. Purposes: Too small for meat so they are used as bait for bigger fish. Name: Djed Fish Location(s): The Shallows and Reefs Appears: Common Description: These fish were non-existent prior to the Djed Storms of Spring 512AV. However, afterwards this species of fish were found by divers almost where ever they looked. The fish are only about a food long and are poisonous. With that being said, their fins have long transparent barbs on the ends of their fins that inject a deadly venom that left untreated will kill an adult human within six hours of being struck. They use this to catch their much smaller prey and also as a defense. Luckily, a cheap treatment that counteracts the poison injected from the painful strike called witch hazel will usually reverse it's effects within five minutes of being injected into the body. However, their meat contains no trace of this poison and can be eaten. These fish obviously display amazing colors and at night these fish glow. Their glow varies with the season. They glow red during the fall, white during the winter, blue during the spring, and green during the summer. They have night vision allowing them to avoid predators. Djed Fish can be collected with thick gloves and their poisons can be collected and sold. However, after this the fish dies from too much venom deprivation and is usually then used as food. Behavior: Aggressive when cornered. Will stab with it's barbs if it feels threatened. Purposes: Food and Poisons Name: Loi Fish Location(s): Close to Shallow Reefs and Crevices Appears: Not to frequently Description: Loi Fish are smaller sized fish ranging from about 1-3 feet long. They have distinctive crimson red bodies with snow white stripes running vertically up and down their bodies. They have large flaring fins that have poisonous barbs on the end that inject venom into their predators when they attack. These fins can reach out to about 1 foot out when fully grown. The Loi Fish also uses these fins as herding tools, that herd small fish into a corner or enclosed space. They then suck down their prey with their impressively large mouths that can expand. They eat just about any moving invertebrate or fish that will fit into their mouths. They truly are a beautiful and elegant animal but this animal also comes with a fact that their venom can be a sharp and Behavior: Aggressive but Cautious Purposes: Their quill like fins can be used for decorations. They can be eating when fuly cooked. The quills can be used like toothpicks to serve. Name: Flamefin Fish Location(s): Intertidal-Mid Ocean Ridge Appears: Uncommonly Description: The Flamefin is a disc shaped fish being no longer than two feet long. It gets its name from its obvious flame like tipped fins that when swimming at their top speeds give the impression of a small fireball darting about. These fish have no exact form of defense unless they form schools quick enough to scare a predator off. With that being said, they are an excellent source of food and are foolish enough to bite onto anything that wiggle or moves. A diver could wiggle his finger and the fish would attempt to suck in the finger eventually latching on causing no harm to the diver. This is one of the easiest ways to catch the Flamefin unless you are actually fishing with net or a pole. These fish can swim up to 10 miles per hour. They have few predators because of this. They feed on smaller fish even composing of younger specimens of their own species. Their usual weight is a good 10 pounds but can vary. Behavior: Wary, Cautious, Curious Purposes: Food Name: Speckled Heat Fish Location(s): Along reefs and brush in the shallow and deeper waters Appears: Commonly Description: Being only around a foot and a half long these fish display brilliant and beautiful markings. The prominent color on their body is a deep orange red color specked with unique splatters of white speckled upon their fins, faces, and bodies. Their fins are mostly white because of this. They have yellow, orange, or fire red eyes and have large jaws that can extend to twice the size of what they appear to swallow prey up whole up to that size. When threatened, these fish can heat their surroundings around up to the temperature of fire by releasing chemicals that react with the water. Hence their name being Speckled Heat Fish. However, they are slow fish and they need to be stopped or slowing moving for this reaction to happen. This being said, if a diver can somehow get close enough to them with a net and can keep moving the net fast enough, the chemicals will have no time to react thus making the fish defenseless. This is another good food source as their meat is tender and white. They have yellow heads fading out to purple bodies that then fade out to white fins and tail. Not only does the appearance cause their naming but their remarkable swimming speeds make it appear as though there are actual comets shooting passed. They can swim up to 30 miles per hour. Their eggs, although tiny in size but large in quantities, make delicious toppings for meals. They lay about 1000 eggs at a time with a low success rate. They otherwise are practically useless serving sometimes as bait fish. Behavior: Quirky, fast moving, wary Purposes: Bait, Caviar Medium Aquatics Name: Archtail Striker Location(s): Shallows-Open Ocean Appears: Uncommonly Description: These are medium sized extremely dangerous fish with a large appetite up for anything that moves. These fish move at swift speeds of 45 miles per hour and have amazing colors on their fins. They all have the same design and feature the same colors, the males being a lot brighter like the one in the picture while the females carry a much less vibrant hue to them. Archtail Striker sizes vary depending on gender with females being smaller than males. Females are three and a half feet long while males are four to four a half feet long. The Archtail Striker has large and powerful jaws that possess large four to five inch long fangs used for quickly swimming in and grabbing prey. They shred it apart and swallow the shreds whole. They can be killed and fished but it is rare to see these fish on a dish as it is considered bad luck to eat one. Behavior: Aggressive, Violent Purposes: Food Name: Thunder Sailfish Location(s): Open Ocean Appears: Uncommonly Description: These fish average 15 feet fully grown and have long slender bodies with contracting muscles lining up and down their bodies which allow them to slice through the water at speeds up to 65 miles per hour. They have a razor sharp beak in which they charge at their food from below and stab them. They then wiggle the fish off by thrashing about then enjoy and eat. They also can herd a small school of fish using their large sail like fins and get them into a tighter ball until finally they circle around and shoot through collecting anywhere from 5 to 10 fish at a time. They have blue silvery like bodies with red fins. On the bottom half of their bodies it is a rusty orange color. They have sets of two white dots surrounded by a bolder blue color that run up and down just like in the picture. Behavior: Fast-moving, quirky, agile and sharp movements, and run before fighting. Purposes: Can be fished for food but it is rarely found due to the sheer respect for these animals as they help keep over-population down from invasive fish. Name: Moonjellies Location(s): Open Ocean to Deep Trenches Appears: Uncommonly Description: Moonjellies are a large species of jelly fish averaging four to four and a half feet in diameter around the top. They are called Moonjellies because during the day they soak up and reserve the sun's rays. Then at night, they glow and resemble the moon from the top. The exception being they're transparent in some parts and have large tentacles, some short and slender, some large that billow resembling fire like movements. They shine a lot brighter when the moon is full, usually gathering in groups of a hundred to a thousand casting a glow that can be seen from the surface and from the shore. They are slow moving and usually entangle prey with their tentacles, shooting electric currents through their bodies eventually paralyzing it. They can leave nasty stings and have no eyes meaning they cannot see where they are going and float with the current. Behavior: Exhibit no behavior as they have only a nervous system, no brain. Purposes: No purpose Name: Dusklight Dolphin Location(s): Shallows, Open Ocean Appears: Uncommonly Description: Dusklight Dolphins are very beautiful and gentle creatures that have distinct markings. They average about 6 feet long and have half black and half white bodies that come together in a marbled like pattern. Every Dusklight Dolphin has the same pattern, however, every Dusklight Dolphin is distinguishable by their fins in which they never have the same shape from many conditions and previous injuries. They can swim at a good 30 miles per hour with ease, but the real treasure they possess is the unique ritual they perform at dusk. At dusk, the Dusklight Dolphins come out to play and do amazing tricks such as somersaults and flips, soaring out of the water. This is the time they are most active in which they sleep at night. It is said that these Dusklight Dolphin pods help save stranded people, towing them to shore when they sense stress and even protecting a stranded person from predators. Because of this, they are left alone but are a wonderful sight to see from shore and boat at dusk. Behavior: Helpful and kind Purposes: Help stranded divers and the like Name: Spotted Barracuda Location(s): Open Ocean Appears: Commonly Description: The Spotted Barracuda is a rough six feet long with a compressed and slender body perfect for slashing through the waters as speeds up to 40 miles per hour. They have long silvery bodies tinted with blue adorned by spots that run along it. They have yellow to silver eyes and large teeth averaging a good 5 inches, perfect for gliding in quickly and spearing several fish at a time then swallowing them whole. These fish usually hide underneath fishing boats and wait for the catch to be pulled in before they dart out and bite half of the fish off before darting below the boat again to wait for another. However, fisherman have managed to retaliate back by baiting live fish with larger hooks and catching the barracudas usually turning around and eating them for dinner and they are even on the market. They usually swim away from divers unless pursued then they turn around and charge with their fangs out and ready to retaliate. Their teeth can be made into charms as they are large enough. They sell for around 1sm to 1gm depending on size. Behavior: Aggressive Purposes: Food Name: Auguria Location(s): Shallows and Open Ocean Appears: Rarely Description: Auguria average a decent 6 feet long and have distinguishable colors on them. These colors fade from the back to the belly direction blue to green to yellow. They have flat and broad heads in which they use to charge at each other when fighting over territory, mates, and even food. Their bodies allow them to reach speeds of 55 miles per hour. They are extremely rare and when spotted it is considered extremely good luck. They have a large mortality rate of 80%. Even though they lay 100,000 eggs at a time, rarely any of those that hatch make it passed 5 months. Behavior: Evasive and extremely cautious Purposes: Superstition Large Aquatics Name: Deepseeker Shark Location(s): Open Ocean and the Deep Appears: Rarely Description: Deepseekers are extremely large sharks that average 30 feet long. They are deep ocean dwellers with unique adaptations one of which is their coloring. They are blueish black on the top perfect for blending in from the top. On the bottom they are white which helps them blend in from the bottom. They use these special colors to swim far below their prey then shoot up from below using their powerful bodies and tails. This propels them forward and the prey is then caught in their giant jaws. They have large teeth that average 6 inches long and grow in five rows, each row averaging a hundred teeth. Behavior: Extremely Aggressive Purposes: None Name: Skyeria Location(s): Open Ocean Appears: Commonly Description: The Skyeria is a large whale averaging 15 feet long and possesses unique markings. Skyerias live in pods of up to 60 whales and keep close ties with their family. They have black prominent colored bodies wth white bellies. Along with this is the white shape towards the tail that resembles a wave. Another white marking is the white oval directly behind and above the eyes. They have white chins as well. Skyerias all have the same markings and the only way to distinguish them apart from one another is the shape and edges of their fins. This is distinguishable by the younger they are the smaller and more perfect edged they are. With age, injuries occur and they get bigger with growth. Behavior: Protective & Aggressive Purposes: Oil, Food Name: Cobalane Location(s): Open Ocean, Deep Waters Appears: Uncommonly Description: The Cobalane is a large and most beautiful fish and as it's name suggests it is Cobalt in color along the top half and snow white on the bottom. It has pale turquoise lines which are short in length and width that run up and down the body. The fins are cobalt blue as well that fade out to a black at the edge. This amazing fish also has icy blue or sky blue blue eyes. The Cobalane is a good 20 feet long fully grown. It possesses a long and compressed body and the more length the more muscle it has. That being said, the fins on it are shaped for speed and this fish can swim at an amazing 70 miles per hour. With that being said, they usually have good success rates because they are so fast. Needless to say, most of the 20,000 eggs do not hatch. As a matter of fact, only about 3000 do hatch and some of those rarely make it to be adults with their predators being great in number at that time. Behavior: Cautious, Quirky, Quick Moving, Extremely Intelligent Purposes: Food Name: Catshark Location(s): Open Ocean, Shallows, Deep Ocean Appears: Uncommonly Description: Because the Catshark has fur on its head it has been a debate whether it is a mammal or a fish. However, because the fish does not nurse the young, lays eggs, and has gills it is a fish not a mammal. Obviously, the Catshark has a extremely unique face of what looks to be a cat. In this sense, the Catshark has the facial features of a cat but the rest of the body and mouth is definitely a shark. The Catshark is an avid hunter that has adapted to a wide variety of conditions and depths. Because of this, they can eat just about anything. The Catshark has a body that usually average a brown or grey in color with a white underbelly. The Catshark's head is usually a brown, orange, or black that fades to the scales. They have a variety of patterns this fur can grow in such as tabby or solid. They have large blue eyes that see in full color. These eyes are either blue or green. The Catshark averages 20 feet long but has been known to grow bigger. Behavior: Wary, Cautious, Mind Their Own Business, Evasive Purposes: Oil, Food Name: Giant Lava Turtle Location(s): Shallows, Open Ocean Appears: Rarely Description: The Giant Lava Turtle is a large sea turtle averaging 18 feet wide in diameter of their shell. They have white shells that seem to be splattered with shades of red in unique patterns for each one that look like lava. They have white bodies with black scales but along the head and neck especially you can catch some of those that resemble the colors on the shell. To help protect their young from the dangers ashore, the females lay their eggs under about 6 feet of sand where predators can't smell them. She lays them close enough to shore where they are about 5 feet away from the water at high tide as they hatch at night. Still, few make it despite them being a large 1 foot in diameter.
