The man approaching Leila began swinging his net faster and faster, "Run little bird, I'm not interested in you. I want that man behind you. You owe him nothing, but he owes us a lot. Just walk away, and you won't get hurt." Leila for a brief instant, considered the man's offer. But she shook it off, "No, stay back! Yo.. you.. won't be hurting anyone!" She swung her makeshift weapon out in front of her, an amateur threat. He shrugged, then slung his net out at her. She flinched, raising the board to defend herself. The net wrapped around the board, and with a quick jerk, was ripped from her hands. Leila looked around frantically for help, and finding none, just backed up against the man she was trying to protect.
The man was now within arm's reach of her, and he hooked his net to his belt. His free hand then shot out, and grabbed her by the arm. She yelled, and began hitting her little fist against the man's shoulder, chest, and arm, but to no avail. Her gripped her painfully hard, and tried jerking her out of the way, but she kept fighting and flailing and screaming. But he quickly grew tired of this and his dagger shined bright as he prepared to remove the obstacle.
Meanwhile the archer on the roof had just watched one of her comrades fall to the woman, and began loosing her remaining arrows at her. Her friend in the alley would be fine, but this woman seemed to be a genuine threat. If her arrows didn't kill her, she'd have to go down to the ground and finish her with her sword.
The dagger shot toward Leila, aiming low for her stomach, to kill her quickly and get her out of the way. But Leila was thrown aside by the man behind her, who then punched her attacker square in the face. Her attacked stumbled backwards, then fell, his buttocks sitting square upon the rusty nails that were lodged in the board that his net caught. He shrieked like a heartbroken maiden. His knife was still in his hand, when soft steps were heard from behind him. Then canine teeth bit down on his hand, forcing him to drop the knife. Her partner then kicked the attacker in the jaw, and he fell backwards unconscious. Shaco took a quick moment to mark the man, then made his way over to the fallen Leila, ensuring that she was okay.
Her partner helped her up, "No one has ever risked their life for me before. I don't deserve it, but I thank you ma'am. We should hunker down here until we know it's safe out there," to which Leila just nodded in reply. |
