Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

It was still unusually high up for the Inarta, but when she finally lowered and the ground beneath her was reached did she truly listen to what the Akalak was saying. She flexed her toes, and gave the earth a fine stamp as if to solidify the fact she was indeed earthed. Eyes darted about, and then up at the blue giant and his serious expression as he introduced himself. She gave a nod and tested the name.
“Fel-a-vik. Fel? I Fell on Fel,” a grin broke out on her face, her own amusement having been satisfied “Sami is mine. Sa-mi.”

She drew in a deep breath and looked about herself once more, looking about the scene and back up at the tree. It seemed to her exceptionally high up at first, but with Felavik next to it the previous height she had reached seemed minimal in comparison. She gave a frown, hands planting on her hips almost with distaste at the limited height she managed to cover. The tree received a scowl, and the Inarta turned on her heel once more to face Felavik. It hovered there for a while, before finally easing off. She took a perch on the ground, fingers touching and tugging at the grass as questions once more filled her mind.

“So if Wysar is all Discipline, in both keeping yourself in order and your position in the world… “ fingers drummed against the ground a steady rhythm playing out “And you all follow the way of a warrior… so training, fighting, combat, your own self respect all in the name of Wysar… then who maintains all this stuff?” it was at this point she gestured to the world around her and in a sense to the places beyond the gardens “I mean Riverfall is a big place, so if all the Akalak are busy training and doing discipline things…” her hands clapped together “Wait! That’s why there’s a large chunk of other races here! They must do everything outside of discipline things. Right?”

“[Sami]Fel-a-vik. Fel? I fell on Fel,[/Sami]”

She distinctly reminded him of his Grandfather when she rolled his name around her tongue. His Grandfather had a habit of spacing out the syllables of his name when angry. Of course Sami didn't sound angry. In fact she seemed amused by the shortening of his name. He couldn't help but chuckle himself. Perhaps it was a little funny.

“[Sami]Sami is mine. Sa-mi.[/Sami]”

Felavik smiled. “It is nice to meet you, Sa-mi.” He replied rolling her name on his tongue when he came to it.

“[Sami]So if Wysar is all Discipline, in both keeping yourself in order and your position in the world… And you all follow the way of a warrior… so training, fighting, combat, your own self respect all in the name of Wysar… then who maintains all this stuff? I mean Riverfall is a big place, so if all the Akalak are busy training and doing discipline things… Wait! That’s why there’s a large chunk of other races here! They must do everything outside of discipline things. Right?[/Sami]”

It was interesting to watch her puzzle it out. He kept silent allowing her to get as far as she could. It seemed like good mental exercise for the girl and he felt like interrupting to correct her would have been very rude.

“Yes and no, Sami.” Felavik replied when finally she stopped. “In a sense discipline things are everything else. Most Akalak are not warriors all the time. We train in our free time but we take any other duties we may have very seriously. That can include things like maintenance and taking care of a growing garden. That is what I meant when I said Discipline is about knowing your place in the world, you see, for even the most humble of gardeners can serve Wysar in the tending of a garden or the growing a tree. The gardener has found their place in this world and is doing what he must. That is Discipline and even the other races may find themselves serving Wysar without even really noticing.”

Sami rubbed her jaw as she plucked a single blade of grass up from the ground and studied it in the light, the shades of green changing as it caught the rays of the sun. Although she may have seemed distracted by the rest of the world, of the strange lands that were now before her, she was in fact listening. Carefully she placed it down, and rested both of her hands on her lap, her fingers lacing together.
“So what you’re saying is that everyone has a place in the world, be they what we deem as good or bad places of interest?” She waggled her fingers “So we’re like one big circle, constantly keeping everything moving by knowing our place within the world.”

The girl leaned back slightly, eyes turning to the sky between the branches of the tree “I suppose it makes sense really. I mean by knowing our place, it allows things to run smoothly and normally a bit like… a bit like…” her hand raised as she clicked her fingers, trying to summon out a word “Run smoothly like… the tide. It goes in, it goes out. Meaning that raging storms are like someone stepping out their place in the world. Breaking the flow. Or am I wrong?” she shook her head “No… no I’m wrong. I’m missing something. But what…?”

Her fingers drummed against her knee, brow creased as she indeed focused properly. It was something that was outside of her normal knowledge, and it was causing her to stop and think. To try and solve this puzzle. And it was something she was far from use to “Everything has a place in the world. Everyone has a duty. So how do you know what your duty is? How do you know where you sit in this big discipline puzzle?” she stared directly at Felavik this time unwavering and looking for an answer “How do you know where you belong? And how do you know you’re doing your duty?”

It was in a moment of silence that the thoughts of Sami slowly ticked over, the cogs winding down to a single focus. One set upon her own state of being, her own ego. On her own place in the world, and her own duty that she was supposedly practicing.

He watched her as she mulled it over. She was showing a lot of wisdom for a youth especially in the patient way she seemed to sit and let her ideas gather. She could, perhaps, stand to let her ideas gather for more minutes before she opened her mouth but, for her age, this level was quite extraordinary. He sensed that in many years she would perhaps be just as wise as his noble Grandfather.

Felavik saw nothing wrong with her tide analogy and was somewhat puzzled himself when she declared it wrong. He found himself wanting to ask what was so wrong about it. It seemed correct enough and quite astute for a child but he supposed that perhaps she had noticed that a raging storm too has it's place in the world.

Before he could ask her about it however she had moved on again and was now asking him questions again. These questions were getting pretty deep. How had a few questions about Akalak culture turned into a deep, philosophical discussion about the nature of life itself?

“Sami, do you ever think a fish asks where the river goes?” Felavik asked pausing for an answer before continuing “It does not ask it merely follows the current. People are born with a sense of direction like that. You mioght have heard people reference it as fate; a sort of path toward your true purpose in life. The thing about Discipline is that it keeps you on this path. A lot of people stray, Sami. In fact most people do and it leads to terrible things but those who practise good discipline end up where they are meant to be and do what they were meant to do.”

Sami folded her arms, her blue eyes coming down at a point upon the Akalak. Her cheeks puffed out slightly, her brow creasing into a frown as she thought carefully. He was correct, fish do not ask questions like that. Then again they did not exactly have the means to ask questions either. With her fingers drumming against her arm the Inarta thought, frowned and hummed, before releasing a heavy sigh, “Well… no. Fish don’t ask where the river goes. But… but… the first fish. The first fish that ever existed, how did they know where to go? Or was it just pure chance that it went that way?”

There was a quick shrug “I guess you’re right though, there are people who go against fate, and people who are one with it.” Her lip curled only for a moment “So just as you live here to exist, and follow your own path of fate, a road through life, so does everyone else? Some people have a large destiny to face, whilst others just run away from it, or…” there was a momentary pause “Or some people that force others off their path.”

Her shoulders sagged slightly, almost in the realisation of a sort of self defeat. She had been torn from her home, her path and her place in the world had been stripped from her. Miles had been placed between her and where her fate called her, and that was the only drive that kept her going. Head home, get home. There was a heavy sigh, her tapping fingers relaxing. She gave a mutter of “What a pain in the backside....” and proceeded once more at tugging at the grass. It was a source that she could pour her frustration onto, and she was not about to pass it up. A low grumble caught under her breath, her lip twitching in a snarl "petching... petching..."

“[Sami]Well… no. Fish don’t ask where the river goes. But… but… the first fish. The first fish that ever existed, how did they know where to go? Or was it just pure chance that it went that way?[/Sami]”

As much as Felavik enjoyed watching her suss things out on her own he felt the need to intervene at this point. “And that is where the Gods come in. The Gods created the fish and the river. The Gods created destiny and discipline and it was they who first told the fish to swim downriver and the first peoples to pick up tools.”

There was a shrug from the girl as she began to talk about people's paths again and, more importantly, when she decided that there were those that forced others from their paths. It was not so hard to sea the pain that this realisation seemed to bring and easier still to conclude why. The girl, for some reason or another, thought she had been knocked from her path.

“Not necessarily.” Felavik replied both wanting to cheer her up and teach her something. “I did say that even the evils of this world have a place. Sometimes they serve to put others on their true path. Think of where we would be without adversity? It is the trials of troubling times that mold who we truly are, Sami.”

Sami was sceptical to say the least. The Akalak before her may have been wise and understanding of this subject and thought of paths and fate, yet the girl was not convinced. She still remembered that horrible storm, the howling wind and the roaring thunder in her ears, the crawling through the pitch black to simply see daylight and breathe in the cool, crisp, fresh air. Her arms folded, with her back straightening. A scowl had fixed itself upon her face. No, he had to be wrong. He had to be.

“Without adversity I would be back home. I would be in Wind Reach,” she gave a snarl, whilst her eyes narrowed down upon Felavik with a deep annoyance “If it wasn’t for that storm, I’d be there. Not here. Not this great distance away. I would be with the other Yasi. I would be with my people. Not you blue men who talk of their discipline and roles in life like the common man drinks water.” Her head turned away sharply, lips pursed together. He did not understand. Those people were a nightmare, fiends and monsters that ruled to cause chaos on others. He did not know what it was like to experience it all first hand.

But, she knew begrudgingly that he was right. The last year had indeed defined her as a person, it had instilled in her the will to survive and the strength to carry on when all else seemed lost. She just was not willing to accept it yet. Not from a near stranger such as he. A flare of ignorance was what commanded her at present, yet it was something that would pass in due time. It always would. When it would was the question though, “Stupid Gods and their stupid paths, why did they have to do this? Why did they have to petch everything up? All their fault.”

I would be with my people. Not you blue men who talk of their discipline and roles in life like the common man drinks water.[/Sami]”

A victim of the storm... He had seen many lose their homes and heard even odder tales from the storm but it would appear this girl was driven all the way from Wind Reach to Riverfall. Felavik had no idea where Wind Reach was but he could only assume that it was very distant. Felavik could only imagine the pain that she felt.

“[Sami]Stupid Gods and their stupid paths, why did they have to do this? Why did they have to petch everything up? All their fault.[/Sami]”

She had a right to be angry, then, separated from her peoples as she was but Felavik could not help but hold on to his stubborn beliefs. “I wouldn't count them out just yet, Sami. Gods work in mysterious ways and, most often, those who suffer greatest are also rewarded greatly.” Felavik tried his best soothing voice but his deep vocal chords didn't quite cut it.

“We're not all discipline and fath, you know.” Felavik suddenly changed the subject. “We Akalaks have fun too. In fact, we're practically known for it. Swimming, climbing, playing in the sun... Riverfall is a tiny slice of paradise in a tumultuous world.”

Sami was sulking, there was no two ways about it. Her lips pursed together into a pout, her arms refusing to unfold as she sorely looked upon the sky. Her cheeks puffed out as the words of the Akalak washed past her, leaving her little more than sour and grumpy with his presence. Even when he calmly tried to change the mood and topic the Inarta still remained adamant in her behaviour. She gave a snort, followed by a sharp look at Felavik, “Yes, paradise. Whatever you say.”

Eyes drifted away and she sat in silence, squirming awkwardly for a few chimes. But as time went on, her shoulders begun to slump in a sense of defeat. Riverfall may have been a paradise, but it still was not home. Once sharp eyes turned sullen, her head hanging once more as the distance became clearer and more apparent. It was more than just a stone throw away; it was a journey that would define her once more. If she was to take it up. She was hesitant to; she did not know where to begin or how long it would take let alone if she would get there in one piece. Eyes drooping, she released a sigh and her arms relaxed. There was only a brief, sheepish look at Felavik and a shake of the head, “Paradise or not. It is not home. Home is… home is where the heart is. It is where I belong. Where I need to be. Not here with you blue men.”

Fingers pulled at the grass again, a bad habit in the making, as she thought, “I need to find a way home. Although this place is nice. It is not Wind Reach. I need to think, and plan. And be ready.” Clearing her throat she spoke once more, this time in a mumble, “Sorry for being rude. Could not help myself. Just angry with myself and things.” She covered her eyes with a hand, “I need to plan and leave in the direction of home.”

“[Sami]Yes, paradise. Whatever you say.[/Sami]”

The sarcastic comment wasn't a complete surprise but, all the same, it struck Felavik pretty deep. Not because it was rude, for surely he could forgive such a sorrowful young girl her misgivings, but sheerly for the hurt it conveyed. Her wound was deep and something he could not imagine. He could not even begin to feel the pain of losing your home. Sure, he could understand the pains of losing family but that was almost the least of the girl's worries. How had she gotten lost? How long had she been lost for? The answer to these questions and more were sure to be even more horrifying. Felavik truly had no words to say, no comfort he could give until he heard a familiar saying...

“[Sami]Paradise or not. It is not home. Home is… home is where the heart is. It is where I belong. Where I need to be. Not here with you blue men.[/Sami]”

“I remember when my Uncle left Riverfall. He said the exact same thing and do you know what my Grandfather replied? Your chest is where your heart is and you take that wherever you go. Home is something you can never lose. No matter where you go it will always be a part of you...” Felavik had began in hopes of this tidbit of his Grandfather's wisdom might cheer her up but as he recalled the time he was overcome with loneliness. He missed his Grandfather so much but he yearned, even more so, for his Uncle; for living relatives; so that he wouldn't have to be alone any more...

“[Sami]Sorry for being rude. Could not help myself. Just angry with myself and things.[/Sami]”

“That's okay.” Felavik replied with a warm smile. “I know a little something about being alone. My family... is not around anymore and if this wasn't my home, If I didn't know that I had a brother in every 'blue man' in the city, then I'd be a little rude myself.”

OOC :
Excellent timing. I couldn't get on my PC till today so if you'd posted earlier you would have had to wait ages on a reply.
