"Well I'm shyke with the bow and the flute, so you've got me beat there," Daelyn said, smiling and finishing his second ale. He tapped his hand on the hilt of his sword. "This right here's one of the few things I'm any good at. Ironic really. Here I am, a medicine man by trade, and I can slice your throat from five paces," he said. "Petch...Not that I'm going to slice your throat. It was...hypothetical."

Always putting his petchin' foot in his mouth. He couldn't help but chuckle though. Least if he were to start slicin' and dicin' he could repair the damage he caused.

"Tamo daggers eh? Never seen 'em used personally," he said. "I'd offer to help you train...but I can barely write with my offhand, much less hold a petchin' sword. Sure I'd slice my own fingers off before I got the hang of it."

[The rearing stallion] Hot weather sickness

Postby Lyrri Snowsong on June 2nd, 2013, 8:09 pm

Lyrri listened with interest. She'd never held a blade in her life; it shocked her to think it was so common here. The hunters of Avanthal used spears and bows, and swords and daggers didn't seem to have much place in the winter city.

She laughed as Daelyn stumbled over his words. A flicker of green. "A medicine man? At least you can patch it up!"

She honestly didn't have much to contribute to this conversation; that didn't mean she wasn't listening intensely. Wouldn't it be fun to learn to fight? Weren't the best storytellers those who had lived the adventures themselves? The Snowsong finished off her ale, stretched with a contented sigh. Surely it would help with some fantastic tales!

Crona laughed at the way Daelyn corrected himself. "Yes I figured you wouldn't whip out your sword in the middle of a tavern. You would likely decapitate a few and get yourself killed."

The idea itself wasn't all that lovely but she couldn't help herself but laugh lightly. She turned to Lyrri "What kind of bow do you use? Archery has always looked difficult to me. To much time aiming when I could just be stabbing the enemy in the jugular." She drank the last of her ale with a small smirk in place.

Crona hoped she wasn't talking to vulgar, she had the tendency to do so. She watched as the Barmaid took her mug away and into the kitchen, likely to be cleaned and she listened to Lyrri's response to her question.

Daelyn was fascinated with Lyrri's eyes. He wasn't sure exactly what made them change, but he knew he could watch it happen all day. He nodded at her.

"That's true. I'm handy around injuries. Patched myself up often enough," he said, touching the scar on his forehead. That was one of many. His tongue was scarred, and all the fingers on his right hand were slightly crooked. The hazards of the occupation.

He chuckled at Crona's ribbing, and watched as the two women finished their ale.

"Is anyone still thirsty?"

"What kind of bow do you use? Archery has always looked difficult to me. To much time aiming when I could just be stabbing the enemy in the jugular."

Lyrri let out yet another laugh. "I hadn't thought about it like that," she exclaimed. "Well, I use a compound bow, though I don't have one with me; I lost in on the trip here, shamefully enough. Wasn't of much use in my hands, though." It was true. The women of Avanthal were foragers, not hunters. Lyrri had rarely gotten a chance to use a weapon, much as it interested her.

"... Stabbing the jugular sounds much more useful," she concluded with a chuckle. The barmaid took her mug; the heat returned to melt away her thoughts.

"That's true. I'm handy around injuries. Patched myself up often enough,"

He gestured to the mark over his eyebrow. It made sense. Lyrri shrugged with almost cartoonish emphasis and smiled, taking care not to let her curious glance slip once again to his covered arms. Though I do have to wonder if there's a tale to tell!

She also noted with a touch of surprise that Daelyn wasn't used to her Vantha eyes, either. Is it really so strange?

"Is anyone still thirsty?"

"Could go either way," she grinned. "What about you, Crona?"

Crona listened intently to Lyrri as she explained about her bow as the answer to her question. She nodded or smiled at all the necessary times before turning to look at Daelyn as he went on about his medicine ability and the scar on his forehead.

"Is anyone still thirsty?" He asked curiously.

The feeling of heat came rushing back to her as fast as a bolt of lightening when the question was raised. She nodded, trying not to look to eager as she reached in her pocket for a silver mizas but came up empty handed "I don't have any money on me." She said slightly disappointed that she didn't come prepared.

The blond looked over at the man with pleading eyes "Do you think you could spot me a silver? I'll pay you back as soon as I can. I swear on my blades."

Daelyn chuckled along with Lyrri. She was right. He knew from experience. Stabbing a bloke in the jugular was pretty petchin' quick. And it was damn near impossible to fix. Daelyn was good with the human body, quick with his hands, and steady when treating wounds, but he knew he wouldn't have a chance to fix a cut throat.

"It is. Not much kills a man faster than a sliced gullet," Daelyn said, chuckling again. It was dark humor, but most of his humor was.

"Could go either way? Nonsense. That's a yes," he said, turning to Crona and waiting for her answer. She checked her pockets and paused with a disappointed look. Her eyes turned to him, hazel pools full of pleading. How could he say no?"

"You'll do no such thing," he said, tapping his hand to get the barmaid's attention. "Pitcher of wine love. Any chance we can get it chilled?" The barmaid gave him a dark look. He chuckled.

"Guess we'll have it warm then."

[The rearing stallion] Hot weather sickness

"If you insist," Lyrii grinned with another enthusiastic shrug. "Though I'm hopeless when it comes to remembering debt."

Daelyn asked for wine and the barmaid glared- 'love'- perhaps it was a somewhat insulting mannerism. The bard didn't particularly care. He had an odd way of talking; so did she; Lyrri had progressed quite a bit with the common tongue, but the poetic and lyrical nature of Vani got the better of her on occasion. "Speaking of, I haven't spoken like this in so long..." she sighed, the musical words tripping on her unpracticed tongue. Oh, well. Common was what she needed here. The perfect language for collecting tales!

A yawn escaped the Vantha's lips. For a split second the yellow dulled in her eyes; it then flashed with blue-violet surprise. She hadn't been getting much sleep in that squat little compartment they called a home... But tired, already? Lyrri stretched her arms in an effort to wake her dozing bones, bouncing in her seat and shaking her head. It was a rather childish, rather exaggerated display; then again, wasn't the Snowsong childish and exaggerated herself?

With the quick release of a deep breath she turned back to her compatriots. "Well, then! What about a bit of entertainment?"

[The rearing stallion] Hot weather sickness

Postby Arlan Young on June 5th, 2013, 5:16 am

Arlan had been sitting quietly in the corner of the tavern for a while now, his wide blue eyes fixated on the trio as observed them in silence. Chewing at his lip, Arlan swung his backpack around to his front, setting it down against his lap and pulling it open. retrieving a roll of parchment and a stick of charcoal from within it, he didn't hesitate to begin sketching out the three people, sliding the stick of charcoal across the paper, which eventually began to accurately represent the silhouettes of the group talking by the bar.

Muttering absently as a few rogue drops of sweat fell from his hairline and smudged the charcoal artwork upon contact with it, Arlan lifted his hand in annoyance, running the back of it across his forehead in a hopeless attempt at stemming the perspiration, it was bloody hot.

Continuing to touch up on the drawing, little else seemed to bother Arlan, as he seemed completely oblivious to his surroundings, his attention not deviating from the trio as he sketched them, all that could be heard from him was the gentle scratching of the tip of his charcoal stick.

Crona smiled at Daelyn thankfully before turning to Lyrri as she spoke in a language sh had never heard before. "That was beautiful, what language is it?" She listened intently as Daelyn ordered some wine, that they would apparently be drinking warm. AS she listened she was oblivious to the boy who was focusing his attention on their little trio, drawing out their silhouettes and laughing expressions.

"Well then what about a bit of entertainment?" The small girl asked them with a smile. Crona couldn't help but smile back and nod, wondering about her talent.
She had tried learning an instrument once and well...lets not go into detail about that. Her dad had told her that 'only women play instruments.' She had just nodded back then, not wanting to disrespect her father.

She leaned in a bit as Lyrri pulled out her instrument, her ears awaiting the lovely sound.
