Building Day! (Ricky, Titus, Annalisa, Gale, Tallis, Castor)

Timestamp: Summer 23, 513 AV
Several days before the 23rd, Titus Walker, Gale McCenry, Ricky Maze, and Castor Riley would all receive the same letter from a courier.

"Dear Titus/Gale/Ricky/Castor,

I'm renovating my shop on the 23rd day of Summer, which will be closed until they are finished. If you'd like to stop by, I would appreciate any help if you aren't busy. Meals will be provided, and drinks afterwards. If you can make it, the building starts on the 8th bell. Just come to the back yard, the gate is always unlocked.

Thank you,

Leila Hughes"

Professor Marin would receive a note from an assistant with the University on the evening of the 22nd.

"To whom it may concern,

I am Leila Hughes, of Leila's Soothing Salves and Clinic, and I was directed to the University in seek of a Geomancer to assist the Sailor's Guild in the renovation of my cellar. There will of course be maximum pay for whoever takes the offer of appropriate skill, meals and supplies will be provided. I appreciate in advance whoever takes this offer, and building begins on the 8th bell of the 23rd of Summer, behind the shop.

Many thanks,

Leila Hughes"

Leila was dressed and ready several chimes before the eighth bell rang, standing out back behind her house, planning where everything would need to go. She had several things being done. She had three dog houses being built on the back wall of her shop, that would sit atop a cellar for food and herbs. The Hammer ensured her he could build the entrance to the cellar in such a fashion that no one could tell it was there, since the city was known to have food thieves during famines. The dogs would also help to keep out the rats that were known to ruin cellars. She would also fence in the dog's a little yard, since her new Sykanis puppies would arrive soon. She was also fencing in her herb three herb gardens, digging an irrigation ditch from the stream behind her lot, building some compost bins on the side of her herbalism lab, adding a tool shed in the corner where her herbalism lab met her shop, adding a cabinet to her cottage, and replacing one of her tables in her lab with a bed for patients. It would be quite the busy day.

Leila had ordered a bunch of lumber and several tools from the guild to aid in this project. Several construction workers, including The Hammer, were coming, and she knew they'd arrive right on time. Her new friend Tallis would be coming as well, since he owed her for treating an injury he couldn't pay for. She waited around, in her working dress, with her hair tied up with a vine from her garden, a flower in her hair. She had a wine skin for anyone who was thirsty, and had made a huge platter of sweetcakes for anyone who was hungry. Shaco was standing next to her dutifully waiting to get a lot of attention like he normally would when people came over.

Building Day! (Ricky, Titus, Annalisa, Gale, Tallis, Castor)

Postby Tallis on June 15th, 2013, 1:26 am

Tallis owed Leila, and he couldn’t be late to pay off a debt. Making an effort, to show up early, he arrived precisely ten chimes before the eighth bell. It wasn’t much, but he didn’t want to show up before Leila was awake - that would have been counter-intuitive. He had been awake by sixth bell though and had gotten a hearty breakfast; he was ready to put in some hard work.

Before he could even open the back-gate door to make his way to the backyard, Tallis was greeted by a deep bark that could only belong to Shaco. And if Shaco was there, Leila would be too. Opening the gate, the hound bounded towards him. Kneeling down to give the gentle giant a loving rub first, Tallis stood up and waved at Leila. Her attention had been drawn by Shaco’s bark and her focus had been diverted away from the copious amounts of food she was setting out. She looked absolutely wonderful, her natural beauty accentuated by the flower in her hair. A practical woman, with food to boot!

“Are those cakes?” Tallis asked, taking note of the plain but delicious looking pastries, “They look good, but not as good as the chef!” Giving Leila a playful wink, he grabbed a small cake from the large pile and popped it in his mouth. These were definitely made by Leila herself. Tallis remembered her cooking from the store’s Grand Opening and, although the food was humble, he could practically taste the care and effort that went into producing it all. The sweetcake was simply delicious, and he couldn’t wait to have some more when he was on a break.

Backing away from the table and swallowing his mouthful, Tallis surveyed the yard. “So… before you decide what to do with me, I think I have a… pleasant surprise for you.” Taking a moment to compose himself, Tallis prepared for the worst. It was hard to predict how people reacted to news like this. Even in a town like Zeltiva, where magic practitioners came to learn, many people held differing views on the use of magic. Hopefully, Leila would be the sort to condone the use. “I haven’t been completely honest with you, Leila.” He felt a tinge of guilt, but continued on, hoping for the best, “I have chosen to trust you now, and I hope you can trust me too. I’m a mage, a rather good geomancer if I do say so myself. I would like to repay my debt to you by using my magical skills, but if you feel endangered at any point, I promise to stick to physical labour. I would even leave if you felt that I was compromising your safety.”

Tallis hoped Leila would accept. He felt confident that there was no one better than him to help her move the earth. He was earnest about doing his best to help her and to repay his debt. He simply hoped that she wouldn’t be prejudiced against him.
