17th of Summer, 513 AV Anna sat in the center of the place she now called her testing grounds, located a few bells to the northwest of Zeltiva proper, with her legs crossed and her eyes closed to the world around her. The scars of numerous earth reimancy tests littered the ground around her, with a large ditch and some broken trees located not far from her as evidence of a failed experiment of the past. Her cloak, boots, and backpack were located under a nearby tree and the shade of the leaves above her shifted as the branches moved with the light breeze. It was a beautiful day, and what better way to celebrate such a wonderful day than by meditating and preparing to manipulate res? Anna was slowly learning the best ways to properly meditate, how to control the breathing and how to block out the sounds around her to clear the mind. It was by no means a perfect understanding but it was one that was developing at a sure pace. It was still tricky to get the proper form down, but she was sure that she could get it eventually. Anna's breathing was slow and deliberate, each one clearing her mind of the distracting sounds of the wilderness around her. She had been at this for about ten chimes but patience was a part of the process as stubbornness would only cause problems later down the road. Her black hair was free and falling about her face and her expression was calm and collected, content one might say. The young professor wondered why she had not taken this form of calming exercise up sooner rather than later. It was definitely helpful when it came to focusing upon a goal that she had set in her mind, crucial one might say at this point. It was becoming a part of her normal routine before each practice so that she would have some clarity of thought. It was almost as important as when she glyphed her hand and feet to provide focus. Already she could feel the troubles of the world beginning to melt away as clarity came to her. She could see the shape she wanted to clearly in her mind, it was a simple thing really. A large rock really about the size of a hand, though the force behind it would have the strength of a fist. She already had a name in mind for the small construct, the Earthen Fist, a simple name for a simple weapon. Her fight with Tallis had taught her something, she needed to improve upon the basics first before the complex forms. A basic and quick mode of disabling an enemy would definitely be helpful in this instance. Anna opened her eyes once her meditation was complete and began the next part of her preparation for training, her stretches. This was another relatively new thing for her, however she was of the theory that a sound body and a sound mind made one much more capable in the long run. This theory was further reinforced by Tallis, just by getting close to her he had managed to effectively defeat her. That could never happen again, not ever. She spread her legs out and started stretching, reaching as far as she could to her right leg, stopping just below her ankle with her toes still out of reach and held that for a chime. The action caused her to feel the stretching of her muscles, it was still a little uncomfortable at times but she knew that she needed to maintain this kind of thing for it to ever feel natural. Anna switched legs and repeated the same process, holding her hand there for a chime before finally standing and stretching up as high as she could manage and holding that for another chime. After this she reached behind her back with one arm and held it down as far as she could managed to stretch it. She held this for a chime before switching arms and doing the same. Finally the young professor bent over and reached down to her toes as far as she could, her fingers falling well short of their intended goal. This annoyed her to some degree but then she was no acrobat. After holding this for a little while Anna sighed and moved to her back pack to prepare herself the same way she always did, through glyphing her hands and feet. Anna returned to the place she had sat not moments ago, brush in hand and ink at the ready for Glyphing. The young woman started with her right foot, drawing a circular pattern as she began her first focus. The creation of these was becoming much more easy for her, however with that there were now added complexities. No longer would she just be using focus glyphs but also Pathway runes to better affect the flow of res to her hands and feet. She finished her first glyph in about four chimes, a good time and the glyph itself looked rather good considering. Anna moved on to her left foot and repeated the pattern, gratified that this was coming much more easily to her. All of her practice appeared to be paying off. About fifteen chimes later Anna had finished her focus glyphs and was now moving on to drawing the paths. She started with the first barrier glyph on her right foot, drawing a pattern of small runes around the larger focus before making a path up her leg and ending it with another barrier. She slowly added the paths to her other glyphs, making sure to check for errors as she did. Not a single brushstroke escaped her notice nor did a single error, which were quickly corrected as soon as they were spotted. The young professor took stock of her handiwork, nodding in approval as she stood up, ready to begin her Djed manipulation. She started with a low incantation in the Ancient Tongue, mostly gibberish as usual but it was an extremely useful focus in the process of spellcasting no matter how experienced the wizard. Translucent res formed in the palm of her right hand, slowly sheathing it. Anna sighed slightly as the euphoria of casting made itself apparent right away, it was a pleasurable feeling for her which made it all the more dangerous. She pushed aside the feeling and moved the res out from her hand to the air before her. Once she was sure that she got the size correct the chanting woman willed the liquid to begin to transmute to a solid form before transmuting it to rock. Normally she would have drawn the elements from around her for this but she needed to make sure the test was accurate so transmutation was necessary at this juncture. When the outer layer of the rock formed Anna prepared it to be sent out to a nearby tree, still maintaining control of the inner layer of her construct. Her legs were spread out and with one motion she willed the large fist of stone outward, transmuting the rest as it left her zone of control. The rock didn't hit the tree dead center, her aim was not perfect unfortunately, but the glancing blow it had tore through a couple of thick braches as it whistled off into the forest beyond. Anna smiled victoriously, not her most fearsome display but certainly what she had set out to accomplish. The Earthen Fist was a success. |
