As she stepped outside she thanked him for the door, something which he'd rarely heard in his travels. Thanks. Such a thing might even be easy to come by in Syliras, though Sunberth was still the constant in Kane's mind. He thought that the 300s might be on their right, though he wasn't sure. "Lead the way," The words surprised him, almost made him jump, and he looked about, back to Maya who stood there smiling. Well, he thought, time to test my luck... And so he started to the right, hoping to find a number that'd favor 307. The first door they came too, on the first story, had a small brass plate on it, and stepping closer one could read, '399' in small, well-detailed print.
"Well, it's a start in the right direction." Starting further on down the long wall, the pair made their way in silence, on Kane's part being slightly in shame for past deeds, though he couldn't answer for Maya, the young Inartan was something of an enigma, someone who he couldn't really figure out, though she was a quality sort, which was more than he could say for most of the individuals he'd met, save for a few, John and Balor among them. As they approached 307, Kane risked a glance at her, her riding cloak was drawn about her, slightly billowing in the airflow created by her strides, her overall stature was slightly dwarfed by his own, her height and build being almost his opposite, while he, being relatively tall and built, she was shorter and much more slender, and likely much more lithe than himself. Turning his eyes back ahead of him he tried to put his mind elsewhere, though the only place it traveled was Sunberth.
That haven of evil seemed to permeate his life, which it did, considering he'd lived there his whole life until recently, but it reminded him just why he was here, in Syliras; to start anew. To make a new Kane, and forget the old one, start a new life. Perhaps his meeting with John on the eighth would go well, perhaps he would be interviewed for squirehood... Such an outcome would please him greatly. Looking to the nearest door he examined the brass plate, which read '297'. Damnit. thinking to himself, he could almost hear Balor speaking as he did so, You're a fool, Kane. A damn fool. turning to Maya, he quickly offered an apology, pointing back up the street, "Eh... very sorry about this, seems we've overshot a bit." Starting back up the walk, it didn't take long to close the distance to 307, after which he stood beside the door, gesturing towards it, "Here y'are... Don't suppose you need anything else, then?"
