"Thanks. Lets walk there." she says, easing a bit. She stuffs her arms into her katinu after motioning for Kane to follow, and turns, beginning to walk. What are you doing, Maya said the little voice in the back of her head whom some call conscience, and others lunacy. You barely know this man, and you are walking with him to such a place as he might find out where you live. She decides he didn't look strong enough to break a lock, and went through with the walking plans.

"Thanks. Let's walk there." She'd begun to lose some of the caution that'd been present before, good. Kane didn't want to have to tell his whole story to give himself an alibi. As they walked she seemed fairly quiet, probably thinking to herself, though Kane simply looked around at the buildings, some even three stories tall, a luxury that, in Sunberth, was reserved for those with deep pockets. Eventually they arrived in silence at the building, and Kane looked to it, speaking as he did such,

"Well, here's your stop." Looking to her as he finished, he offered a small smile, "I suppose you'll be wanting to get settled in?"

"Uhm, yes..." She says, regaining some of the caution from earlier. She turns and opens the door to the office, which was really just a converted apartment, and swings the door widely open as she walks in, so that it would stay open a bit longer for Kane. She walked up to the desk and said "I wish to buy a room for the next five nights."

"What kind?" asked the attendant.

"The cheapest you have is fine," she answers.

"That'll be 5 silver Mizas." Maya pulls out a coin purse from her backpack, eying Kane as she does so, and takes out a gold Miza and hands it to the attendant. She gets her change and slips it into a pocket in her coat.

"Here's your key," says the attendant, handing her a small bronze key. "Your apartment number is 307."

"Thank you," she remembers to say, turning to Kane and inquiring if he knows where 307 is. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Screamed that little voice in her head, but she ignored it. Kane is a friend, that much is apparent, and it would do her good to have a friend in this large city.

As they both entered into the building Maya began her business transaction, Kane looked about the place, a homely type of establishment. He'd been here not too long ago, only perhaps an hour or so earlier, though he tried to take his eyes off of Maya, his own conscience plaguing his mind of the days so long ago in Sunberth. He used to be the kind of man to cause such feelings in people, and that one girl... how he wished he'd never done that. It was times like this that it haunted him most, times like this he tried to distract himself with the simple things, a painting on the wall, a lantern, or even a book, if available. He could feel her eyes on him as he looked to a painting of a wilderness landscape; a mountainside smothered in fir trees, and was about to make a move for a plate of cookies when Maya finished up her business.

Turning to him, she asked if he knew just where 307 was, and looking to her he thought only for a moment before answering, "Yes, I believe so." He lied, of course, but it was a numeric system, and shouldn't be that hard to grasp... or so he thought. Motioning for her to follow he opened the door behind them and stepped back into the street, holding the door open for her as he did such.

"Thank you," She remembered once more that one was supposed to thank one for a kindly service, such as opening the door. All this business with pleasantries was going to be hard to grasp, she realized, if she had to remember to say such things. Walking outside, she looked about her once more, seeing the cobbled streets and other apartments, people walking about and in and out of the tall buildings.

"Lead the way," She said, smiling. She was utterly lost, and was relying on him to find her apartment.

As she stepped outside she thanked him for the door, something which he'd rarely heard in his travels. Thanks. Such a thing might even be easy to come by in Syliras, though Sunberth was still the constant in Kane's mind. He thought that the 300s might be on their right, though he wasn't sure. "Lead the way," The words surprised him, almost made him jump, and he looked about, back to Maya who stood there smiling. Well, he thought, time to test my luck... And so he started to the right, hoping to find a number that'd favor 307. The first door they came too, on the first story, had a small brass plate on it, and stepping closer one could read, '399' in small, well-detailed print.

"Well, it's a start in the right direction." Starting further on down the long wall, the pair made their way in silence, on Kane's part being slightly in shame for past deeds, though he couldn't answer for Maya, the young Inartan was something of an enigma, someone who he couldn't really figure out, though she was a quality sort, which was more than he could say for most of the individuals he'd met, save for a few, John and Balor among them. As they approached 307, Kane risked a glance at her, her riding cloak was drawn about her, slightly billowing in the airflow created by her strides, her overall stature was slightly dwarfed by his own, her height and build being almost his opposite, while he, being relatively tall and built, she was shorter and much more slender, and likely much more lithe than himself. Turning his eyes back ahead of him he tried to put his mind elsewhere, though the only place it traveled was Sunberth.

That haven of evil seemed to permeate his life, which it did, considering he'd lived there his whole life until recently, but it reminded him just why he was here, in Syliras; to start anew. To make a new Kane, and forget the old one, start a new life. Perhaps his meeting with John on the eighth would go well, perhaps he would be interviewed for squirehood... Such an outcome would please him greatly. Looking to the nearest door he examined the brass plate, which read '297'. Damnit. thinking to himself, he could almost hear Balor speaking as he did so, You're a fool, Kane. A damn fool. turning to Maya, he quickly offered an apology, pointing back up the street, "Eh... very sorry about this, seems we've overshot a bit." Starting back up the walk, it didn't take long to close the distance to 307, after which he stood beside the door, gesturing towards it, "Here y'are... Don't suppose you need anything else, then?"

"Well, it's a start in the right direction." Wonderful! He doesn't even know where to go. He'll probably lead you down a dark alley, where... Maya took this opportunity to glance up at Kane, who happened to have glanced at her at the same moment. She blushed and look ahead, eying the door numbers as they passed them.

Kane slowed down and neared one of the doors, which read '297'. "Eh... very sorry about this, seems we've overshot a bit." Overshot into an alley...

"Well, you got me close, that's what counts," says Maya, who was still lost, and looking around for landmarks with which she could identify her apartment. Seeing none, she would have to rely on her counting skills to get back. Meanwhile, the two had turned around, and arrived at 307. Kane stood by the door, gesturing towards it, and said, "Here y'are... Don't suppose you need anything else, then?"

"No, th-" She began. You're gonna die here anyway, might as well look for a job. "Actually, I was wandering where I might acquire a job as a... a..." She pauses, trying to find the right word in Common. "as a Glassworker. That is the word... I think..." She looks up at Kane, inquiring.

"No, th-" Already, as soon as the distinctive sound of the letter n was emitted from her lips, Kane was thinking on where he would go, likely somewhere to see if he could secure a book or two for his spare time, when she'd said something else, "Actually, I was wandering where I might acquire a job as a... a..." A job? What kind of job? His eyebrows began to migrate slowly northward as he went through a mental list... smith, stablekeeper, barmaid, farmer-"as a Glassworker. That is the word... I think..." Kane's eyebrows returned to their initial position, his eye's widening slightly at the thought, Her? A glass-smith? A bit young... but also on the matter that he'd given little to no thought to glass working, and really had no idea how to find such a place in Syliras...

"Glass worker..." His brow wrinkling slightly as he thought, "I have no idea, though I'm sure there's a place... Syliras has everything, it seems."

"Glass worker..." Kanes' brow wrinkled slightly as he spoke. "I have no idea, though I'm sure there's a place... Syliras has everything, it seems."

"Yes..." said Maya. Indeed, Syliras seemed to have everything. And she hadn't even seen an insignificant portion of it yet. The sun was high in the sky, indicating it was some time in the afternoon. "Well, we have time to explore, if you'd like..." she began. The voice in her head quieted down, realizing perhaps that she was in no danger, or at least that she could not be persuaded to cut off ties with this new acquaintance. Looking around her, with her Katinu feeling a tad heavy, she suddenly feels the heat of the mid-afternoon sun getting to her. She shrugs off her coat, first taking the change from the purchase of the room, and the brass key, out of the pockets. Doing this reveals her slim stomach, with a small navel piercing of a glass bead, colored blue. She puts the change into her change purse, and the brass key she fits into the lock, turning it. The door opened with relative ease, but was slightly squeaky, as if it had been oiled recently, but not that recently.

"I'm just going to put my things away," She said, hanging her coat on a hook near the door, and her pack on a small, crude table. She quickly eyed her room before she left, taking in the small rooms feel. The small cot with mattress seemed almost inviting after spending those countless nights hidden in a cart. She resisted the urge to lock the door and throw herself down, reasoning that if she slept now, she would awake in the middle of the night, and who knows how dangerous that could be with her not knowing the city. Of this she was certain: If she did not find something to distract herself with, she would begin to wander, not only with her mind, but literally, and that could be very dangerous.

Maya steps out through the open door, Talon sword sheathed on her waist, Bryda rolled up to her ankles, coin purse secured to the bronze waistband, and waterskin hanging next to it. "Where first?" She asks, wondering if Kane really knew any more of the city than she did.

"Well, we have time to explore, if you'd like..." Well, Kane didn't really have anything better to do, and it was still a few days before he'd meet with John, and it'd give him a chance to learn the city a bit more... and so after thinking for a few moments he simply replied,

"Sure, don't have anything better to do..." Standing by the door he glanced about, the streets as busy as always, the occasional cart of goods making its way further into the city. Reaching with his right arm to scratch a small itch on his right shoulder, he glanced over at Maya as she removed her cloak, exposing the traditional Inartan midriff, something Kane was, simply, not used too. Combined with his past history with women, he quickly turned his gaze back to the street as she disappeared inside her room, thinking to himself as he did, Inartans must be an outgoing bunch...

"I'm just going to put my things away," In response Kane simply nodded even though she couldn't see, not thinking on it. His mind began to wander, thinking on just why she was in Sylrias instead of where ever it was from whence she came, why she and her father had come. Maya was barely older than John, more than likely, still, something about her, or rather being around her, didn't feel right.

Something about it reminded him of his daughter, memories flooding his mind.

She soon came back out, a magnificent blade dangling from her belt which caught Kane's eye almost immediately. About to inquire as to where she might've come by such a weapon, his collector's nerve tingling, she spoke before he could begin, "Where first?" Thinking for a moment, he figured that around the local smithy might be best, or rather ask someone who simply knew the city better than either of them...

"Well, the local Glass merchant, I'd suppose."
