It was market day again and finally, Vira was finding time to take Tulaj out and work with him some. She'd been partially neglecting the albino since the encounter with Garren and today, Vira decided to devote the day to him and him alone.
So, it was without regret that she collected the bait-balls she'd made the night before, the jesse, and the harrier himself, and headed for the road leading to the Bay. There was a tree grove en route that was filled with rabbits the harrier could hunt off of, a perfect location to test the bait she'd made.
The teenager had spent the better part of two hours the previous night rolling balls of toasted millet in honey until she had some thirty of these two inch orbs all tucked into her satchel beside the treat bag she used to reward the raptor for each successful assault. Dressed in her work clothes, boots, and sontav, the young woman was ready to go!
It took about two hours to get to the spot she'd already practiced in historically, Tulaj complacently perched upon the sontav. His pink eyes were surveying the world with their usual lunacy, probably pondering who he could harass or pluck hairs from, or something equally insane. The bird was absolutely daft. And yet, Vira wouldn't trade him for the world! She raised her arm when she reached the tree line and let him rise off, flying up just above the treeline for now while she set to work scattering the bait balls.
Each ball handful of bait (around five balls) was tossed unaimed in a five foot arc before she moved fifteen feet on and repeated this process until all thirty balls were spread out. The one-eyed woman tilted her head up to the harrier overhead, watching him closely for signs that he saw prey. He did not appear to be focusing on anything in particular just yet, only circling the little clearing with wings raised in a partial V shape. Though white and considered lesser to other species do to the albinism he had, Tulaj was a beautiful bird to Vira. She'd raised him practically from chickhood, his freshly fledged wings practically wet still. But even with his somewhat unnatural behavior, the harrier was loved deeply by the Inartan.
"What do you see, boy?" She murmured when the owl-like head twisted some and his circling changed pattern. Vira had been moving off to the side of the clearing when the harrier had altered course, the woman seeking to be out of the way of the thicket in the event that the hares came back out. But the raptor returned to his course before long, eyes scanning the ground below. It wouldn't really take much time for prey to come out; those bait balls were an ideal treat for small birds and rabbits.
