Day 18, Season Summer, 513 AV
”It was always our responsibility to watch over her. But you are a fool if you think that you can stop something like this from happening all the time. And an even bigger fool if you think she’d let you.” Rhys smirked, the tone of his voice indicating that he found Jorin’s speech a little insulting. Standing up to his full height, he shook his head slightly.
”Pretending to be friends is all fine and dandy, but I would prefer not to be anyone I’m not. Rinya knows my personality and handles it just fine. Maybe you are the one hiding things from her?” It was a quiet insult muttered over Jorin’s shoulder as he stepped into the room behind him, perhaps more of a bluff than anything else. But Rhys went back to stern and quiet face, in an attempt to save face regardless.
Rinya could feel a twitch settling between her shoulder blades. The stretching of her arms above her head really tugged at her muscles and Rinya hissed between her teeth. The dress was not even close to falling over her head. Frustration was beginning to settle in her gut and she finally just growled and dropped her arms into her lap as the door swung back open. Apparently they were done speaking, and while it wasn’t a very long talk, Rinya couldn’t help but still feel incredibly irritated by the boys.
"Rinya," Jorin called out to her, "Do you need any help with that?"
The glare she leveled at them was probably hot enough to melt steel. At the moment it was easy to hang on to her anger. And both of them undoubtedly knew it. Rhys remained near the door, shifting awkwardly and looking anywhere but her. Though his eyes could possibly just trying to be polite as she was uncovered thanks her inability to dress. Jorin however probably read into it even more. It was more than just frustration, irritation, and impatience. Her pride was already bruised enough, and now it was worse.
”No I do not.” This answer was more on principal rather than the fact that she probably should not do it herself. But she wasn’t fool enough either to think Jorin would just leave her completely alone. So holding her breath she slipped her fingers back into the sleeves through the bottom of the dress and lifted her arms again. This time she had better luck, feeling the cloth slip over her skin to her waist. Slowly she let air leak back into her lungs and pushed herself off the bed. Her hip resisted the idea of weight, but she stubbornly held onto the bed until she could feel the muscles relax.
”I am going for a walk. You both can go home.” The obvious dismissal of both of them in her voice was cold, and she knew it. Granted she wanted Rhys to finally get some rest. He was looking so strained she wasn’t sure how much long he could actually stand. With Jorin… well she really didn’t want him to go, but she hoped he wouldn’t feel the lonliness that was creeping up on her. She wanted to nurse her wounded pride before she would say something she’d regret.
Rhys frowned before glancing between them. He seemed to make up his mind before shrugging his shoulders tiredly.
”I’ll be back tomorrow.” And he was out the door faster than she actually anticipated. She had figured the Akalak would argue his way until she nearly injured herself yelling back. So it left her leaning slightly against her bed, with Jorin somewhat between her and the door. Clearing her throat slightly, she realized that she couldn’t exactly look directly at him for no particular reason other than he was viewing her rather bad temper… again.
