"Uhm. Maybe I'm explaining it wrong," Kirsi acknowledged after viewing her new friend's revised attempt. She didn't think it should be that difficult to block out the basic outlines of buildings, but Lyrri's spectacularly dismal effort gave her pause. Maybe there was more to it than just drawing what you saw.
Shrugging slightly, Kirsi glossed over the Snowsong's question and instead offered her a wide smile. "Tell you what - why don't we take a break on this for today? Its not like we could start carving it immediately, anyway. You'll probably want to come up with a couple different ideas and see which one reminds you most of Avanthal...?" Turning it into a question, but not really waiting for an answer, she rushed ahead. "What I usually do before I start carving anything is get a couple images I like, and pick the best parts of each. Then I combine them, so that the finished product is as good as I can make it.
"Maybe you could work on a few designs, and I could work on a few designs, and we can meet up and compare them in a few days." If nothing else, Kirsi thought, it might be easier for the other girl to practice without someone else staring at her every line and shape. And Kirsi was sure that she could come up with some designs for the flute that Lyrri would love - just in case she was unable to draw anything useable.
