19th Bell
19th Bell
The air was cooling with the fade of Syna's rays. The glorious sun goddess began to set beyond the horizon, making way for the moon god, Leth. Soon the world would be cloaked in darkness again. From outside the walls, the cries of the jungle creatures would be heard. The howling of monkeys, roaring of feline predators, and the cries of Myri knows what else in the brush. It was odd though to be on this side of the city. Inside the walls. Her clan was known for its residence in the jungle, a line of defense against anything approaching the city. That was where she had lived for some time. The jungle had become a sort of dangerous home to her, the city serving as a beacon of faith. For there laid their Goddess Queen. The treasure of the Myrians. Their mother. It was a great honor to serve outside the walls whether in the service or somewhere in the trees. In several bells, Kaie and her mother would leave the City of Bones for the gentle fires within their longhouse. For now she would have some fun while the daylight lasted.
Taloba wasn't foreign to the little Myrian in the slightest. Her mother, Shantiwa, being a woman who praised the Goddess Queen as much (if not more) than any other, frequented the city often. Kaie was sure there was not one story about Myri that her mother didn't memorize. She'd taken Kaie through the city plenty of times, stopping now and then to recount something important about each place. The histories and significance of every structure. Sometimes she felt she could regurgitate each tale verbatim. Gone though was her mother now, off with some old friend leaving the Myrian girl to explore. They had their own connections within the walls. So while her mother was busy, Kaie went to find the usual pack she hunted down. If only Keikyo was with her again...
Eventually she reached the place her city friends frequented the most. The Arena of Ancients. Entering the place of ruins, Kaie felt the eerie silent that came with the open grounds. She'd trained and played here plenty of times. Never alone. Now though she could feel the energy of battles long ago won and lost. The air was crisp and a breeze caused her hair to billow and her clothing to sway a bit. Syna was almost over the edge of the world leaving the Myrian girl completely alone. And somehow it brought her solace.
Without warning she was thrown off her feet. Arms wrapped around her shoulders and she was hurled right into the dirt. Laughter filled her ears accompanied by the rustle of brush around her. Kaie growled and rolled onto her back, prepared to kick her attacker straight in the teeth. To her pleasant surprise the faces were familiar. Other children from the city. Though most were older than her by a few years, they had known her and her cousin Keikyo from the times they did visit. Often leaving with quite a few bruises too.
Kaie got back to her feel with a grin and shoved the girl who had taken her off guard. A tall, sneaky girl with three years on Kaie with jet black hair. A cluster formed around her, mocking her and punching her shoulder in jest. It had been a while since she'd been around, and she had missed them. Sadly, she could see some missing in the group tonight. Regardless nothing had changed. Immediately they were all back to their antics again. Antagonizing each other and picking fights for good fun. Working in a few spars to cheer over. Though it wasn't so uncommon for some fights to hold more malice than others...
