A surreal cavern city inhabited by Symenestra where stones glow and streets are reams of silk. Cocoon like structures hang between stalactites and cascade over limestone flows in organic and eerie arabesques. Without a Symenestra willing to escort you, entrance is impossible.

Vetari laughed with the reimancer’s eccentric antics, startling a little at the unexpected pat on the back. “Yea, yes, of course I remember…” His eyes quickly wandered back to the tiny bundle in his arms, unable to keep them off the little girl for very long. “I’m afraid I may need to take this silk with me, however…she seems quite content here and I’d hate to do anything more to wake her. Would that be alright with you?” He looked up, questioning. “I wouldn’t want to impose.”

He rose, kitten in arms, gently tucking her into one of the pockets within the folds of his red silk robes. She purred quietly, wiggling slightly to get closer to the warm body of the young fortune teller, kneeding the fabric and making quiet tearing sounds with her tiny claws. “I believe…I believe her name is Azda.” The word had no Common equivalent, meaning something akin to the nature of a snowflake; calm, quiet, gentle and beautiful.

He smiled at Rovas, quietly aware that this interaction would lead to many more, which may in turn lead to a number of philosophical conversations with the mage. Though he knew little of magic, it always mystified him, and he yearned to understand some magical theory and how that effected his concept of divinity and religion as a whole.

New Life in Kalinor

Postby Sosicly Magnolia on October 20th, 2013, 8:35 pm

The more he spoke, the more conflicted Sosicly was. She wanted one small, furry, and just a little noisy kitten. Her mind flashed to her own home, she could probably shove things away from one corner, and throw the moss there. She could even try to box it off to keep her from accidently throwing things on top.

Sosicly stared at the small cat accusingly for being extra work with food, then set down her quill and gave the kitten a gentle prod. She took care to avoid digging her claws into its flesh and picked it up awkwardly. The kitten stared back and squirmed to which Sosicly tightened her hands slightly in response then gave the kitten a small nod and set it back down.

She picked up her quill, and wrote out again, giving both the kitten and Rovas tiny smiles. I would like to name it Magnolia. Is it a boy or girl? Do they eat anything other than fish? How big does Magnolia get? Do they live a long time?

Abruptly Sosicly pulled her quill back, leaving a few spatters on the page and flushed a bit. Her smile turned a tad sheepish, and she tilted the book in Rovas direction after adding one more line underneath the questions.

May I come to you with questions when I get them?

Once more she enticed the small kitten with the quill, but it ignored her and let out a few pitiful meows. Attentively she patted it on the head with two fingers but it continued to meow and she turned to Rovas and tilted her head in question but her face continued to contort in mild panic every few seconds in fear she had broken Magnolia.

Fall 80 513 AV

Vyvian smiled as he looked below him, he had found the kittens. Suspended from a rope bridge he reached one hand down to brush some hair out of his eyes.

Finally... a companion.

When he had heard the rumours that the kittens were going to be for sale soon he had rushed to research as much as possible about them. He wanted to keep the best care of his as possible.. Smiling softly to himself he looked down at the octet. After watching the more... popular kittens being sold off Vyvian pursed his mouth.

Yet again was this a metaphor for his life. The cute shoulder sitter, the playful one, all the 'normal' cats were being taken with enthusiasm. His eyes narrowed in hate. Once again, nature took its course. Survival of the fittest, no matter how unfairly the fit reached their status.

As he dropped onto the platform softly he scowled gently at the others, hoping they would give him his customary distance. Last thing he wanted now was people being close to him. Slipping his boots back on, he pulled his hood down and shook his hair to spread it evenly over his eyes to hide his gaze.

Approaching the felines' owner he nodded brusquely.

"Dovna" he muttered politely as he bowed his head. He knew he was bottom of the food chain here.

"Which is the least cared for cat here? Which - " he swallowed to try and contain his anger, despite his face remaining totally impassive.

"Which of these animals do you think will be left to die by the wayside?"

Scorn was taken aback by the hostility in the stick-man's tone. Apparently, the free food was not meant for everyone. Clearly, she was still considered an outsider, not worthy of the benefits their own family enjoyed. Not that she wanted to be part of this stinking colony, but she had been slipping into their habits lately, and it was good to be reminded just how much she didn't belong. Now if only she could convince her sister...

With a hiss more of frustration than anything else, she threw the ball of fur at the stick man and fled the dwelling, an idea already coming to her mind how she might obtain one of the munchable critters. For now though, she would stay away from this place.

79th Day of Fall 513AV

Her wish for a kitten of her own had begun as soon as she had caught news of their availability at the Briar web. It would be wonderful to have a companion that would grow to love her unconditionally. A creature she could pour what was left of her love and affection into. Lauralyn had never even seen a kitten before, but she liked animals, so she’d made sure to read about them before residing to take one home. Although it wasn’t all hope and joy that churned inside her stoma touch, but a fair amour of jittering butterflies. She hoped she would be a good enough owner. She was nervous about the responsibility of it. But in the end, her need to have a cute little kitten in her life won out over the jitters and she was knocking on the door.

When she was answered by a smiling Sym who greeted her happily “Hello there, My name is Lauralyn Heather.” She said, smiling politely “I’d really like to have a look at the kittens you have for sale, if that’s okay”

After being let in, Lauralyn’s gaze travelled lazily over the litter of kittens that were still available. most of them had fur of brown black and white, and two of them were midnight black. Some pawed at her, and mewed for her attention. She took a moment to take in their appearances and to bend down and pet them. Then she noticed one that seemed to be hanging back further than the others. It’s siblings jumped around her with brighter personalities, but Lauralyn couldn’t take her eyes off that one little kitten. So she made her way over to it and, as if she were handling the most valuable treasure in the world, carefully picked it up to look at it. It was fuzzy and covered and black and a light caramel colour, with hints of white. It’s eyes were golden orbs like hers.

She turned to it’s owner and said “Is this one a boy or a girl? Does it have a name?” She couldn’t help but smile as she held the kitten. She wanted this little fur ball to take home with her and care for.

Vetari

After a while the little kitten in Vetari’s arms began to make the strangest sounds, and her whole body seemed to be vibrating from within. She was purring! She was purring much louder than one would expect such a tiny cat to purr! Her eyes were still closed however. It was obvious that she was very comfortable in Vetari’s presence – and very sleepy. The reimancer grinned all over his face as he saw that.

„Of course it would be alright with me!“ he said and chuckled. „I wouldn’t want to wake her up either.“ As he tucked her into a pocket, the little cat stirred momentarily and opened her green eyes a fraction, but she immediately relaxed again and continued to pur and kneed his robes. It was warm and dark in his robes, just like she liked it.

„Azda is the perfect name for her!“ Rovas agreed. He tried to curb his enthusiasm and lower his voice a little so that he wouldn’t wake the kitten up. „I wish you two a lot of fun. If you need anything, if you have any questions about cats, don’t hesitate to visit me. I’m always interested in a bit of company!“

Sosicly

The kitten stared at Sosicly and squirmed a little as Sosicly picked it up. It even wagged its tail a little. Once she had set it back down, the little creature glared at her. Its ears twitched a little, and it was still wagging its tail. It wasn’t looking for a hiding place though which Rovas interpreted as a good sign. In fact after a while the kitten approached Sosicly again and meowed softly at her.

„She’s a girl“, Rovas answered Sosicly’s question. „And Magnolia is a great name for her. She’ll be almost like a member of your family, you’ll see. She shouldn’t weigh much more than eight pounds when she’s fully grown. Of course you’ll never know for sure!“

He grinned a little.

„You can also feed her chicken – or any other kind of fowl. You can mix it with a bit of rice or cooked vegetables for a little variety. If you take good care of her, she’ll live for fifteen or even twenty years. You should also make sure that there’s always a bowl of water nearby in case she’s thirsty. And of course you may come to me whenever you have a question. I want these cats to have the best possible life.“

„I think she wants to be picked up“,
he remarked as he noticed Sosicly’s questioning look. „She’ll sometimes do that when she wants to be held. She is a little moody sometimes – I say that she has a unique personality – but she’ll also give you a lot of love.“

Vyvian

As Rovas noticed Vyvian’s entry, the reimancer arched an eyebrow. He observed how the boy scowled at everybody, how he tried to hide his face and tried not to get too close to them. A cat, he decided, would be just what Vyvian needed. It would teach him to trust others and that physical contact wasn’t a bad thing. Sometimes having a pet could be almost therapeutical.

„The least cared for?“ he repeated. He found the question strange. Usually people wanted the cutest, nicest, most beautiful cat. Rovas also was slightly offended as Vyvian asked which cat he thought would be left to die by the wayside. „I’m not going to let any of these cats die!“ he informed him matter of factedly. „If nobody wants a certain kitten, I will try to raise it myself, although taking care of three cats at once will be hard.“

He paused for a moment and looked around until he had found the kitten he had been looking for. He directed Vyvian’s attention towards it. It was a calico cat with golden eyes and black patchy paw pads. „This little girl here hasn’t attracted a lot of interested yet because she doesn’t like being picked up and stroked.“

„Do you think you can take care of such a cat, a cat that will just meow and squirm if you try to hold it?“

Lauralyn

„Hello there“, Rovas greeted Lauralyn. „I’m Rovas Briar.“ After Zith and antisocial Symenestra Lauralyn’s visit was a welcome strange. Rovas found that he quite liked the young woman’s smile. „Of course that’s okay. Feel free to take a look at the kittens and play with them a little. They like the attention.“ He had thought that she would be interested in oen of the black cats – they had wonderful personalities – so he looked quite surprised when she enquired about the shy cat that hung back instead.

„It’s a boy“, he replied. „He unfortunately has urinary problems and will sometimes urinate on the floor. I’ve tried to train him, but unfortunately I haven’t quite succeeded yet. I’m sure his problems can be managed though“, he quickly added.

„He doesn’t have a name yet. It will be up to you to name him and love him.“

OOCLauralyn, it’s okay if the cat looks like the cat in the picture. Vyvian, since you haven’t inquired about a specific cat, and Lauralyn has asked for the shy cat, you get the cat that doesn’t want to be picked up. I hope that’s okay with you.

Vyvian stared down at the rather mopey looking female cat. A semi angry smile crossed his face.

"She reminds me of myself" he muttered harshly. He looked up at the cat.... 'vendor' fiercely.

"How much do I owe you for her. And.. do take care of the rest. If you run out of homes for the remainder of them, I'll take them all." Vyvian glowered protectively. He was being way too sympathetic to the cats, but he liked it.

Vyvian

„I can see that“, Rovas remarked as Vyvian said that the kitten reminded him of himself. In the reimancer’s opinion there were two ways this could go: Vyvian and the kitten could be mopey and moody together or the presence of a little kitten could brighten the Symenestra’s mood and vice versa. He hoped that the latter would be the case. Rovas really couldn’t stand mopey people (or cats).

He preferred happy people.

„Nothing“, he replied as Vyvian asked him how much he owed him. „I’m not doing it for the money. I only want my kittens to have a good home where they’ll be loved and always have enough food. If you can give her that, it’s payment enough as far as I’m concerned.“

He nodded as Vyvian informed him that he would take all the kittens if he didn’t find homes for them, although he wasn’t sure if that would be a good idea. One kitten would be good for him, but two or three might quickly become too much, especially if he didn’t have any experience with cats.

„I’ll keep that in mind. Do you know what cats need? And do you have something that you can carry her home with? I doubt that she’ll let you pick her up and carry her home in your arms.“

Vyvian raised a cynical eyebrow.

"Free kittens then? Seems too good to be true" he smiled sarcastically.

"As to what I need? I guessed I'd just need to treat it like a basic Symenestra, food, water, hygeine, and something to kill time. And for getting home? I assumed she'd follow me if I had some food or something for her. That not the case?" he pursed his lips softly in worry. He was going to have to be careful with this animal if he was going to get attached to it, which he already was.

He hoped she'd like him...

Vyvian

Rovas laughed heartily as Vyvian remarked how free kittens seemed to be too good to be true. „You don’t trust people, do you?“ he asked. „I assure you that there is nothing wrong with my kittens. I just want to find a good home for them, and success is more likely if I don’t ask people to spend a few golden mizas on top of the food and toys for their new pet. Do you know what I mean?“

„No, no, no!“
Rovas shook his head as Vyvian talked about treating the kitten like a basic Symenestra. „It’s not a Symenestra, not even a basic one. If you feed it a bowl of Bruka with all the spices in it, it will get sick! It needs meat, cooked or fresh. You can also occasionally add vegetables and rice, but no salt or other spices. And I would not risk letting the kitten walk through Kalinor.“

„Cats are good climbers, but this kitten is still little and may fall off the web. In fact, I would not let the cat outside at all. Most cats are perfectly fine with living indoors as long as they have toys and an owner that spends time with them. Wait here. I may have something for you.“

Rovas went looking through his house and returned with a straw basket with a lid. „Put the kitten in there.“ He wondered whether it would really be a good idea to let Vyvian let the kitten – the young man seemed to have no idea about cats – but he couldn’t take care of so many pets. Besides, Vyvian looked like he needed a cat. He would probably be fine, once he had learned a bit about cats.
