A Tiring Day

20th of Fall

"Great, I think I am lost." Varek said under his breath. He has been told about a shop that had a lot of exotic foods and spices, and wanted to check it out. even though he had lived in Syliras for a few years, he still got lost every now and then, a problem he was determined to fix... eventually. "maybe if I read the directions again?"

After reading the directions, backtracking, and reading the directions again, Varek finally thought he was on the right track. "Turn left here, and it should be somewhere around here..." Varek looked around, and thought he saw the right place. he opened the door to the shop, only to find what looked like an abandoned room. The only table was bare, and all the shelves were empty. Either the shop was no longer in business, or it never existed.

well, time was wasted. Varek decided to just go back home, or maybe to go have a drink. He stared walking, slowly, back in the direction home. "one day, I am actually going to know the layout of this city. Getting lost, and looking for places that don't exist is really getting annoying."

A Tiring Day

Postby Lyrri Snowsong on September 21st, 2013, 3:52 am

Lyrri relaxed with her back to some obscure city wall, idly tracing her fingers over the carved scene on her wooden flute; she had contemplated playing it, but hadn't she done that every day until now? Why not just enjoy the weather? The city was already cooler under the influence of Autumn; the girl smiled up at the sky, a carefree expression on her face as she tried to forget her lethargy.

Soon she took to people-watching; her shifting eyes settled on a mother and her demanding daughter; then, a fussy little squire; finally, a rather confused-looking gentleman who clearly had no idea where he was. Lyrri smiled; she had been like that for nearly two seasons; she still got lost quite a bit!

He opened the door to a place and the bard's attention began to drift; then, she snapped back with slight surprise as he left just as quickly. I suppose he really is lost, she thought, then stood straight as a cheerful idea occurred to her. Maybe I can help him out!

Without a second thought she rushed toward him, starting off with a small, delighted hop, and placed herself dead in his path. "Hello there," she said, her ever-present smile both friendly and insistent. "You need some help?"

A Tiring Day

Postby Varek on September 21st, 2013, 4:47 am

Varek was walking home, and almost crashed into a girl who stepped right in front of him. While he was still trying to figure out what was going on, she said "Hello there". Varek blinked and replied "umm, hey." in a kind of unsure voice. The strange girl smiled at him and asked "you need some help?"

He wanted to say "no, I am fine." and go on with his day, but a voice inside his head was telling him to be at least a little more social than that. His own social awkwardness was no excuse to be rude. After a pause that Varek felt might have been awkward, he said "oh, I umm, just seem to get lost a lot in this city." he paused a little then added "I have been meaning to get to know it better. kind of pathetic how little I know about this place, considering I have been living here for a few years now"

He gave a somewhat awkward greeting- not unexpected, as Lyrri had nearly crashed into him- and explained that he was rather lost. The bard smiled knowingly. "It's not so bad," she reasoned with a flash of friendly violet in her eyes. "I've been here for half a year now, and I'd be lost, too, if I didn't have so much time to wander."

I still have a bit of trouble finding the Rearing Stallion...

"But hey, if you're searching for anything in particular, maybe I'll know it!" Now that she got a closer look at the man, he didn't seem quite as ordinary. She noted a long scar; even so, she disregarded the thought and continued to afflict the stranger with suffocating cheer. "Lyrri, by the way."

OOCSorry I was gone for a couple days. Not a good start, eh? >_>

A Tiring Day

This girl, Lyrri, sure was happy, maybe it was just her default. "Nice to meet you, I am Varek. I was just looking for a place to buy food and spices, I really like to cook. I have directions, but I was in a rush when I wrote them so they are kind of hard to read, and I might not even be in the right part of town."

Varek was surprised by how talkative he was being, to someone he just met no less. This was, however, a good thing, right? "I thought looking for a place I had never been to would be a good way to get to know the city better, and coming home with some new cooking supplies would just be a bonus." Varek felt like he was just talking to talk now, and felt his side of the conversation was kind of forced. That was to be expected when you had been kind of a recluse for as long as he had. 'Fixing his social skills' would go right under 'learning the layout of the city' on his to-do list.

"Food and spices? Have you been to the Great Bazaar yet?" Lyrri's grin widened; she didn't know of any specialty stores, but maybe she could still be of help. "They have just about everything there. It's hard to avoid food."

"So you like to cook, eh?" The bard didn't want to pry, but it looked like this Varek guy wasn't opposed to carrying on a conversation; he seemed a bit stiff, but that's just how some people are, right? Lyrri watched him with a friendly smile, as if trying to transfer her comfortable attitude over to him.

"Well, either way, I wouldn't mind showing you around a bit. That is, if you don't mind!"

A Tiring Day

Postby Varek on October 7th, 2013, 4:46 am

"Yah, Cooking is one of the few things that really gets me excited. Yet at the same time seems to calm me down, if that makes sense..." Varek trailed off a bit at that last part, as if he assumed it wouldn't make sense. He had no idea how other peoples' minds worked. Maybe it did make sense to Lyrri, and that last bit was unneeded.

Varek did notice, however, that he was starting to feel more comfortable in the situation. When Lyrri smiled, her good mood seemed to spread. Varek wasn't sure if this happened to everyone she met, or just some, but either way she was nicer than anyone Varek would have talked to in Sunberth.

Varek was forced back to reality when Lyrri offered to show him around town. Well, he had already admitted that he had lived here for years and still got lost, so the most embarrassing part of the conversation was out of the way. Varek noticed his mind had trailed off again. "Oh, yes, thank you." Varek hoped that she hadn't noticed his mind wandering. "As payment, I could owe you a meal, cooked by me." again with the obvious endings to sentences. Oh well, Lyrri seemed nice enough not to care.

Her ever-present smile broadened as Varek explained his love of cooking; she nodded, a sort of content violet floating through her changing eyes. "It makes perfect sense," she agreed heartily. "I feel the same about my flute."

The man seemed to relax a bit as he continued to speak; Lyrri could only hope that she had had some part in it. And who knows, she thought with a large dose of optimism. Perhaps I've made a new friend!

Oblivious to anything that could be conceived as awkward or unnecessary, the girl simply took to a fantastic offer. "Well, I could never turn down a good meal," she grinned. Then, she gave a small, joyful laugh and turned to lead the way, taking his arm before they could lose each other in a crowd of rushing Sylirans, pulling at it with almost childish energy. "Alright, let's start toward the Bazaar!"

A Tiring Day

Postby Varek on October 8th, 2013, 3:28 am

Lyrri led Varek to the bazaar. He had been there, in fact he normally got lost there while buying basic supplies that he needed. while it was just a small part of the city, varek would still wander and look around once he had finally found what he wanted, and this wandering is normally what got him lost.

today was different, however. Lyrri knew her way around as if she were here everyday. they stopped at almost every food related shop they could find. Lyrri showed vareksome easy to find places, and how to find the not so visible places that were close to them. Varek was sure that it would be a lot more difficult to get lost after all this, and Varek was even convinced by a very insistent man to buy a pound of Venison, and another of beef. "I could easily use one of these to make stew. Which would you prefer?" Varek asked as they were walking away from the stall, and to the next.

After getting all the other ingredients Varek wanted, he realized that he only had the dinnerware for himself"I will need to get some more things, I normally don't have people over, and I have been meaning to get a new cooking pot for a while anyway. just one more shop, then we can go to my place and I will make you some food." The last things varek needed were pretty easy to find. and Varek got some bowls, some forks, and a cooking pot. "That is everything that I need. are there any shops that you want to go to, or are you ready for food now?"
