Ethan found that he had won his step forward at the awful price of another bruise to his shin. Ser Titus Maximus had taught Ethan that the short brutal attacks were often the deciding factor in fights. Ethan knew that if this was a street brawl, then he would probably had tried to kick Sei in the groin several times, or even tried to gorge an eye out by now, because the truth of the matter was that if you didn’t win your fight in the first few chimes then you were losing the fight. Real fighting and he had been practicing with Lucas to better understand his own limitations, was about the most pain you could inflict on another person as quickly as possible. Lucas had told him that those who believed in honor and fairness had no business stepping into Sunberth or fighting a dagger fight in the back alleys of Zeltiva. Death was a distinct possibility in both situations and only the animal raw power that came from a live and death situation could save you. So instead Ethan learned how to fight with his head and asked about the dirty tricks to better prepare him for his own brawls in the future. Ethan saw the lazy punch that Sei threw, it was strange, up till this point Sei seemed to be moving faster and striking harder. In fact, it was the tilt of Sei shoulders that told Ethan it was a bluff. In the past, Ethan wouldn’t have seen the subtle difference between a small roll in the shoulder to allow the arm to snap back versus any other punch, but pain had been his teacher here in the pits. Lucas had taught Ethan to be aware of his opponent and for the first time Ethan felt like the lessons were begging to real show themselves. So Ethan bought into the lazy punch bringing up his arm in the classic forearm deflection, but it was the roll of Sei shoulders that told him the real blow was coming from Sei’s right. Ethan took his left arm and swung it downward, he had chosen to protect his ribs with a hard elbow throw that might contact with Sei’s fist. Ethan wasn’t sure about the timing, but what he was sure about was if the blow had been timed right it had the potential to break fingers and some of the other small bones in Sei’s hand. Otherwise, Ethan expected the blow to land on his arm and began another dot of bruising. After Sei’s counter strike had come, Ethan decided to use on of his own tricks. Having closed the distance Ethan stomped down hard with his right foot, in the general area of Sei’s own right foot. Lucas had shown Ethan the trick that had come with it. Unless his opponent had metal foot greaves, Sei was likely to feel the hard contact of Ethan’s heel on the top of his foot. Ethan made sure that the stomp was with the a twist from his hips keeping the blow to Sei’s foot painful, but not to the point of cracking bones. It was then that Ethan threw his left elbow at the same time his foot came down and planted itself. The elbow was there to keep his balance and provide more force to knock Sei over if he could. |
