29th Day of Fall, 513 AV
With her exercising completed, there was little to distract Rue from the morbid thoughts that had plagued her since her waking. She would do what she could to avoid home for the day, knowing that her father would only use the day as an excuse to throw her at some new man he found. 'You are getting old, soon you may as well give up all hope of attracting a man. Dyrkas want someone young and strong that can birth them many children, not an old woman past birthing years.' So on and so on, he would continue. Three years out from what was considered adulthood and suddenly she was past her prime so to speak.
To the day a year ago he would have told her that no man would want a woman who was cursed with infidelity, let alone the thought of bonding with a strider. Now that she was a Drykas full his had changed, suddenly he couldn't get her out of his pavilion fast enough. She had to wonder if he was really considering selling her to some stranger, or if he just talked big to scare her into a marriage of her choice.
With those wonderful thoughts to start her day, Rue returned to her pavilion, washing up before turning to her room where a wrapped parcel waited for her. 'Wear this on your birthday, child. It would bring me great joy to know you had something nice to wear on such a special day'. Maybell had known exactly what to say to guilt the girl into accepting the gift.
She unwrapped the gift to find a dress made of such fine cloth that she knew right away Maybell had spent far too much on the gift. Too late now to decline the gift, she lifted the dress from the wrapping, holding it up to take it all in. The v-shape of the neck was wider than it was long and fell just deep enough to be attractively showy. The sleeves fell loose to her wrist where they buttoned closed to keep from catching on edges. The deep purple of the cloth was interrupted just below the bust with a cream lace adornment that drew attention in a similar way to a corset.
It was beautiful, and reluctant as she had been to take the gift from the kindhearted older woman, she could not wait to put it on.
Dressed as she was she couldn't just stay home, but since her birth wasn't exactly something to celebrate in her pavilion, Rue decided that she would go out for a drink, and maybe walk through the market and see what wares the traders from Ektol had brought with them.
