Fall, Day 25, 513 AV
With so many new people in the tent city, by their own will or not, and the traders having come into the city, the pavilion where she worked had become quite busy. With shiny new fabrics from the Ektoli traders, and clothing the 'new Drykas' there was much work to be done.
Rue sat just inside the flaps of the pavilion, so that the occasional breeze and the cooling weather could reach her. In her lap was a tunic that she was just finishing the embroidery on. The neckline and hem had already been adorned with the simply twisting silver embroidery, one cuff on a sleeve had joined the rest of the top in it's completion. She was working on the cuff of the second sleeve, long and loose as they were, the cuff would button at the wrist to keep the sleeve where it belonged.
She almost dreaded the last stitches that would seal the thread in place, ending the pattern of knots with a knot that would hide in the underside of the cuff. The soft double layered fabric in her hands was a beautiful shade of green, one that would remind anyone who say it of the green they would leave behind as the cold weather turned the ground brown and white.
She looped the string, sliding the needle through the hole, then picked the same thread up into a loop and fed the needle through once more. The string pulled tight, the knot flush against the fabric, the only flaw in her ending was the spot where the fine string snarled, leaving a loop hanging from the knot.
Always her string caught this way in the end. It was something she had yet to find a solution to, well that is a solution beyond cutting the loop and removing the hanging ends.
It was finished, and with a longing sigh she decided that she would put it on display in the front of the shop where it was sure to catch someone's eye.
