Hello Mizaharians, November is almost upon us, and with it the madness that is National Novel Writing Month! Mizahar style, of course. As you may or may not know, NaNoWriMo is about writing a 50,000 word novel over the month of November. What we do here instead is write 50,000 words in IC threads with the same character/account. Veterans know full well the glorious insanity of it. For everyone else, here's a basic rundown: Q: Do I have to sign up for this? I'd do it, but I'm a rebel you see. It'd hurt my standing in the rebel community if I had to fill out a form. I'd never force you through anything so degrading! I will keep an automatic word count of your posts. Even if you're a spambot from China and all your threads are about Cialis, I'll still count your words and post daily rankings so you can keep tabs on the competition. Q: I edit my posts all the time and add to them as the voices in my head tell me what to do. Do you keep track of that too? Yes. I run a daily database query that looks up your entire posting history through the month of November. Q: I live in timezone XYZ, that guy who lives on Easter island gets an early start! Outrage! No. I'll start the count when November 1st kicks in for the first timezone on the map, and I'll stop it when November 30th has left the last timezone in the world. It's more time than official NaNo would permit. Q: What's in it for me if I do it, huh? It's not like I'm greedy or anything, but the doctor gave me a daily prescription for loot, so... Post your 50,000 words and you get a medal (there's a brand new one every year). Post more words than anyone else and you get a Highest Word Count medal - also new. Finally, fail to post the 50,000 words but come up with a fantastic excuse for not winning, and you get the Dog Ate My Post medal... Q: I have the perfect excuse! I did not post 50,000 words because it's not November 1st yet. Can I have my medal now? I'd punch you if you weren't me. |
