Lars was coming out today and Kavala wanted to be ready for him. Her mentor was of the Varkas family. He and his dark brother Kavin are in charge of Riverfall's internal structure and maintenance, having built most of the buildings in the city that were of any importance, and having permitted the rest of them including inspections and signing off on permits. The Varakas family, as far as Kavala was concerned, was completely responsible for the look and feel of Riverfall, not to mention the fact that they kept the city going.
When she’d first had the idea of The Within, Lars was the one she hired and paid to do the initial carve out. She figured if he could be responsible for a fortified Akalak stronghold perched high on its three thousand foot cliff where the Blue Vein River takes its plunge into the Suvan Sea, then he would be a good candidate for The Sanctuary’s needs. Lars had gladly helped, and in the process befriended Kavala and recognized her as a fellow geomancer first and foremost. . Lars was extremely charismatic and there was almost no one in the city that disliked him. Thus he never had the other problems contractor sometimes had with not enough help or missing laborers. He was well balanced, in that his dark brother or he could be present at any given time without issues and without violence. Kavala knew Kavin as well and liked him equally. It was Kavin who was the better architect and designer. While it was Lars that slung the stone with an ease that Kavala envied.
