The Lorak Family Plantation

This lazy agricultural settlement rests on the swampy shores of the Middle Suvan at the delta of The Kenash River. The River's slow moving bayou waters have bred a different sort of people - rugged, cultured, and somewhat violent. Sprawling plantations of tobacco and cotton grow on the outskirts of the swamp in the rich Cyphrus soils, while the city itself curls around the bayou and spawns decadence and sins of all sorts. Life is slower in Kenash, but the lack of pace is made up for in the excesses of food and flesh in a city where drinking, debauchery, gambling, slavery, and overbearing plantation families dominate the landscape.

This tobacco and cotton plantation has been managed by the Lorak Family for the last few decades. Situated close to the river and Kenash, Whitesnake Plantation is one of the easiest plantations to reach. Their land might not be the biggest, bur don't be wrong, it is still a vast plain of rich soil. Still, everyone has to agree that they more than made up for it through running the business of doctors and healers in Kenash. It had given them wealth and power and a strong standing between rest of the Dynasties - health is very important after all.

Whitesnake is a validation of the Lorak's true heritage. They have a taste in flairs and dramatics, never passing the chance to take things into an epic proportion. The massive gates which separated were enough to show just how far these people like to take things. Instead of iron, it was made of beautifully wrought skyglass - resilient and stunning. A straight path will lead directly to the Lorak's main house - where most of its member lived. There aren't that much though, these doctors and healers are scattered allover Kenash, wherever they might be needed to offer any assistance. The Lorak never turned down any chance to have more company and so guests are always welcome - what's as show without its audience? A guesthouse is always ready and open to anyone who seeks refuge in the arms of these northerners.

ImageGuests can freely travel the grounds though it is not advised for it is easy to get lost among the thick of trees and shrubs. Throughout the premise, carvings in all forms can be found easily, from sumptuous stone benches to elegant gazebos. All of them are marvels of artwork and some brought directly from Avanthal. In their own way, the Lorak is still tied to the icy city. Further into the grounds, a glass structure can be clearly seen - Doromer's Greenhouse. The place acquired the name after Doromer - the mad Lorak - insisted to stay there instead of the main house. It is said that every sort of floras known to Mizahar can be found there - and it might as well be right. The place is positively covered by potted plans and unruly vines. It had become a central storage for the Lorak's herbs and it proved to be helpful more than a time - even if you have to deal with the crazy man first.

ImageThe mansion itself stood near the sea, offering some of its residents a marvelous sight of the vast blue over the green. The great structure is adorned by ornate pillars, lined around the building. True to their Vantha heritage, one would be able to notice the delicate carvings decorating the house - both inside and outside - sparing no modesty. Despite the grandness of the structure, it is actually a place of serenity, calmness. The Lorak family itself is not too big and there are only very few guests in the plantation at a time, leaving the place seemingly quiet. And the members like it that way. Entering the mansion will be somewhat of an honor. Inside, exquisite furniture enriched the uniquely shaped building. Still, what caught the eyes of most people is the rotunda. The rotunda is located in the center of the mansion. Even from the principal floor, one could glance up and marvel at the galleries and the sophisticated carvings adorning the dome.

ImageA distance away from the main house, a simple brick structure could be seen through the winding trees. The slave quarters are in surprisingly good condition - as it was intended to. Lorak slaves are known to be one of the most healthy and the family wants to keep that way. Some whispers are saying the Lorak kept their slaves in such a good in condition so that they have a healthy stock of experiment subjects. Not a single member had denied nor right the rumors and until now, what truly is happening in the slave barracks is only known by the Loraks.

Gifted with beauty and brains, Calisha is someone who knows she's good. Well, maybe a bit too much. This young woman is well-known for her pride and had driven some people crazy because of it. Still, no one really cares to do something about it. She does no serious harm after all and her knowledge of structure and constructions is most useful to the Lorak Family. The only one who might challenge her skills is her brother - and he's already dead.

Everyone knew of the story and rumors of the twins. The two children, Caleto and Calisha, were lost to the swampland. Everyone was sent into some sort of panic - after all, what were the chances two fourteen-year-olds might survive the wilderness?

Days went by without any sign of them. Until, a small figure was spotted. It was a girl, Calisha, completely filthy and covered with blood. There was no sign of Caleto anywhere. The girl was brought back and nursed carefully, bringing her back from a state of shock. It didn't take long for a family of doctors to notice that the blood didn't belong to Calisha. When people asked what had happened, she said that she didn't really remember, that some animal attacked them and Caleto died.

But the girl was young and the false note in her voice was noticeable. No one truly believed her story. Some even said that she killed her brother. Calisha had always been jealous of all the attention he was getting. Regretfully, Caleto's body was never found and the only one who knows the truth is a driven, vain, young woman.

Additional Info: Known as a madman to the people of Kenash, Doromer is rarely seen by anyone but his own family. He is usually hidden in one of their many greenhouses, doing gods-know-what. For some mysterious reason, this former doctor has clearly lost his mind, but not even his family knows why or how.

Doromer had been a good man: lively, smart, and confident. And while he may not have been the head of the family, like his brother, he was almost just as respected. That said, rumor has it that he captured his brother's second wife's heart and had an affair with her, but it was short-lived.

As for his sanity, he was once a brilliant man, but after disappearing for two weeks, he came back muttering gibberish and refused to see anyone. Doromer seemed to perceive everything and everyone as dangerous for a while, screaming at anyone who came too close. It was truly a sad day for the Lorak Family, to lose such a promising soul.

Now, Doromer prefers to keep in the company of his herbs, making him the best herbalist of the family. He has become more lucid over time, having the will to teach some of the younger generation about his knowledge, but they need only be prepared for his sudden mood swings and gibbering every once in a while.

Words were his weapon and it proved to be very potent most of the time. Making people adore him was what he did daily. Title: Personal Slave
Skills: Observation 10, Wood Carving 10, Storytelling 5, Reading & Writing 5

Additional Info: Like all of the Lorak slaves, Pina lived a good life compared to others of her status. Her parents, however, constantly chastised their daughter into submission. She had to be a good slave, or else one day she would surely be beaten to death. Pina took them seriously, as any child would, and spoke little throughout her youth.

One day, during a private party for distant relations of the Loraks, a guest picked out Pina from amongst the slaves. She was pretty and unusually quiet, which worked doubly well in his favor. Unfortunately, Inari Lorak walked in right as he lowered his breeches before the terrified slave. The teen took one disgusted, rage-filled look and screamed at the top of her lungs, instantly sending both slaves and aristocrats alike running to her aid. Thoroughly humiliated before his peers, the man was excused from the party and received no further punishment from Lorana.

Inari gave little thought to the state of slaves before, but her family's indifference disturbed her. They seemed more upset that she had seen a man's buttocks than they did about the violation of a slave child. From then on, the teen made daily efforts to coax some life out of Pina, who saw the older girl as brilliant, courageous, and sweeter than all the cakes in the world. She followed Inari everywhere and quickly became anointed as the Lorak's personal slave, much to their mutual delight. Inari taught her how to read, write, carve, and anything else the girl was willing to learn, which was pretty much everything.

When Inari opened The Velvet Ear, she employed Pina and gave the girl her very first wages. Under the Lorak's open-minded guidance, Pina quickly grew in both aptitude and creativity. She takes to wearing a sheep costume during the shops secret midnight shows, and sometimes even accompanies Inari further into the city. She fancies herself a sidekick of sorts.
