Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

[The Sanctuary] Water Like Glass

Sometimes it took a special day to find one's courage. And Kavala, for the most part, had been a coward. The birth, so recent in her memory, had seen the desertion of her powers. She'd tried for reimancy that day, deep under the sea, but none had answered her call in the pain and fear of that long day. And afterward she'd been so weak, no djed had responded to her call. And now, she half wondered if the magic was gone forever. She'd slept deeply, woke, checked on the babies, and then fed them and herself. Kavala had known the date on her calendar, knew the day was special, and decided with the looming events planned for the season, one thing needed to be done. So after spending the rest of the afternoon playing with Ralac and watching Ia'del carefully, the infants had dropped off for their afternoon snooze. Cadra had come by to sit with them again, leaving Kavala free time to go pursue other things to spell her from the endless task of tending the babies.

So she'd opted for a walk around The Sanctuary with Tasi romping beside her. He talked incessantly, not sensing his mother's deeply stoic mood. She smiled and made the proper responses. But after twice more around the compound, Kavala was starting to weaken, and found herself in the huge open space between the healing clinic and where the proposed greenhouse and meeting halls were going to be... along with the healing college.

She'd already made stone benches overlooking the space, so she sat down to rest her still weakened legs. Tasi stuck with her for a while longer, but then he was off, two of his favorite big dogs in tow, to find Aweston and see what the man was up too. That left Kavala free to pick her legs up and rest her heels on the bench, and wrap her arms around her legs. She rested her chin on her knees and stared out over the open space. It was to be a pool, a place for the residents to swim and maybe do water therapy when recovering. She'd left it a dirt lot until the pool could be built. But now... in the heart of winter.. it seemed hardly the time to worry about water.

The Konti didn't want to wait though. She wanted to try out of power and see if it still resided in her. The new mother bowed her head forward, concentrated on the ground before her, and tried to relax. She cleared her mind, letting her ability to meditate flood her system with soothing calmness. She banished all thought, all fear, and gazed out upon the scene with a flexible open mind full of potential. Chimes passed into almost a full hour until she was nothing but potential, with no past and no present. The potential was djed building in her, and though she tried not to think of it, the sensation of it was welcoming and familiar. It rose up and burst forth infusing the soil before and around her.

In her mind, the shape of the pool she wanted - a gentle uneven circle that meandered outward large and imposing - formed perfectly. She could see its shape and depth already in her mind as she released the djed outwards. Kavala gasped as the power surged through her, infusing the soil all the way down to the stone of the cliff beneath them. Even then the power dug into the very rock, soaking it, filling it, infusing it. Then, suddenly, when enough djed had flowed from the Konti to the vista before her, the soil and stone exploded upwards all at once, becoming airborne and vanishing as Kavala transmuted it from stone to air while it was still forming an explosive column upwards.

She laughed as the pleasure of the djed release flooded her and infused the very air around her with power. When the dirt and stone fountain had turned all to air, what was left was an empty vessel of carefully etched out soil and stone. It begged to be line with thick tile or glassy stone - perhaps even precious gemstone - and filled with water. Kavala would do so, a moment later, after she caught her breath and had stopped smiling.
