89th day of Summer, morning..ish..

It was quiet. Almost silent. No keening eagle cries pierced the air, or the shouts and orders of other riders. No snappy retorts bit in her mind, and there was a feeling of complete isolation. Peaceful to some maybe, but to others it was close to disturbing. It was that sense of disturbance that awoke Shayth with a start. She opened her pale blue eyes and stared at the stone wall across from her. It was too dark in this room, and what was she sleeping on? Where was Turiska. Blinking, she realised there was the sound of even breathing beside her. Looking down, the rider saw her own naked form and an arm slung casually over her bared hip in an unconcious embrace. The day before sprang to her mind, befuddled slightly by the alcohol she'd consumed.

Kovac. A blush rose to her cheeks as she rememebered. She was in Kovac's room, in Kovac's bed. Naked in his bed, with his own unclothed body tucked against her back. A sudden awkwardness consumed her. What if he woke up and threw her out like so much trash? What if that had been his goal - eventually? To seduce and then humaliate her? She knew how easily someone went from ugly to attractive over a wine bottle. What if he woke up and she was that mistake from the night before.

Petch that, the endal thought, carefully lifting his arm off her waist and slipping out of the bed. Clothes were strewn carelessly around the bed, and trying to creep, the young woman began to collect them. Finding her bryda, the rider clutched them to herself as she searched for her top. Shayth hadn't paid much attention when it had come off, and in the half light, it was impossible to find. Petching thing...

Straighting, the woman pushed her red hair out of her face and sighed. Looking around, she moved to get a better look at the living area of the avora. It was small, just a room, and it was obviously not meant to house company. Turning, Shayth ran her fingers along the edge of the small table, wondering how many riders had seen the inside of these houses? Of this one? A small frown creased her brow.

Awakening (Kovac)

Postby Kovac on September 1st, 2010, 6:38 pm

Shayth's shifting stirred the sleeping Avora, half awakening him as she slipped from under his arm to find her garments. The sudden absence of her warmth against Kovak's skin urged him to awaken fully. He remained still, instead cracking open his eyes just enough to see her through slitted lids. He could make out her form in the dim light creeping in from the hall through small openings in the wall.

The archer watched the tall rider as she slunk around the room, searching for her vinati. Moving his hand slowly, Kovac surreptitiously felt for Shayth's top, finding it laying on the bed next to him and pulling it close to conceal it against him. Still not moving, he enjoyed seeing the nude redhead stroll about his small room.

He was pleased to wake up with Shayth, which is more than he could say about most of the times he has awakened next to a woman. No regret, not guilt. He liked her. She was fun to taunt, brash and snarky, and turned out to be an incredible lover. And she stirred in his gut that hot tickle that comes with the thrill of danger. Kovac would make no plans with Shayth, no strategy to make something between them work. The dynamics between them were too raw to ruin with such. All he knew was that he wanted to see the Endal again.

After giving the sultry Rider a few chimes to scour the room for her top, Kovac raised up on his elbow, and with a mischievous grin, held the vinati up. "Looking for this Endal?"

Shayth jumped at the sound of the archers voice, pulling her hand away as if burnt and turning her head sharply to look at him. Propped on one elbow, and an air of the same brash attitude from the day before in his tone, Kovac was just as attractive as she had remembered him. Still...the rider felt almost self-conscious under his gaze. Her blue eyes drifted to the garment in his hand, and lifting her chin, the woman approached the bed. Standing beside it, bryda clutched to her chest, Shayth held out her hand.

"Yes, actually. I figured it was about time I got back to Turiska before she started tearing the city apart to find me." Standing with her hand out for a moment, the rider couldn't hide the color that rose to her cheeks. She wasn't used to being naked, sober and awake in front of a human. A man. A naked man.

"Can I have it?" Shayth asked almost indignantly. There was no denying, last night had been amazing. Without a doubt. And the rider wanted to be around the archer. Wanted to feel his hands on her skin, and his...

Clearing the images from her head, the woman tried to push the thoughts aside. It was just one night, that was all. Commitment to her wind eagle came first, and a nagging feeling in the back of her mind reminded Shayth of that. Turiska was thinking of her.

Awakening (Kovac)

Kovac watched Shayth make her way across the room back to the bed. Her demeanor was subdued, and he found a twisted delight in seeing her blush, clutching her bryda protectively to her body in a vain attempt to conceal her nudity. Now sober, the Avora still found her to be gorgeous, admiring her long legs, gentle curves and strong, sensuous features framed by her long crimson hair.

A small shiver ran down Kovac's spine at the mention of Shayth's eagle. Turiska already didn't like him, strongly he guessed by the way she dove at him at the archery range. He decided perhaps today would not be a good day to venture outside.

The archer noted the indignation in the Rider's voice as she asked for her vinati. There it was... the spark of the sassy Endal he saw yesterday. His smile grew wider as he hesitated, glancing up into Shayth's crisp blue eyes. He contemplated seizing her wrist, pulling her back into bed and planting a sloppy wet kiss on her. But there was no playfulness in Shayth's gaze, and he thought better of his plan. Turiska would be waiting, and in truth, he didn't want to see anything happen to Shayth.

"Here." He offered, reaching out to place the halter top in Shayth's waiting grasp. He paused, moving to sit at the edge of the bed, unwilling to cover himself. His features softened, not willing to show too much concern, but still conscious of what repercussions she may face for spending the night with him. there was an awkward moment, something Kovac did not encounter often. He looked up again and began to speak, but hesitated. Instead he stood, took hold of Shayth's wrist and quickly leaned in to press his lips against hers. Meeting her gaze for a moment, he released her and began to search for his own bryda, unable to resist taking quick glances at Shayth as she dressed.

"Rider," Kovac finally spoke, breaking the silence as he tugged on his bryda, "You aren't like the rest. Why is that?" She was different, in his perspective. Shayth had come down to earth, so to speak, drinking and joking and carousing, which did not fit his image of the aloof Eagle Riders. At first the attractive Endal was like a trophy, but as the evening had gone on, he found, begrudgingly, that he actually liked her. He did not see her as some kind of prize or victory, he just saw her as Shayth. Shayth who made his gut twitch.

Shayth took the vinati, watching as Kovac sat up. He didn't seem to be ashamed or even aloof. In fact, he seemed almost...caring? Looking down at him as he hesitated, something to say on the tip of his tongue, she wasn't prepared as the archer stood and kissed her. Not an eager, desperate kiss. Not a seductive, rough kiss. Just a kiss. Meeting his green gaze for a moment, the redhead felt a warmth in her stomach and smiled a little. This wasn't the way these situations went. Apparently.

Dropping the vinati on the bed, the endal pulled on her bryda first, resting the band low on her hips and smoothing the black fabric with her hands. It wasn't the type of fabric to hold a wrinkle, which she was thankful for. Taking up the vinati, Shayth slipped her arms through the decorative gold chains, before reaching behind to clasp the soft velvet garment together. Kovac's voice sounded loud in the small room, and the question made Shayth pause. Turning, she moved to lean against a low side table, running a hand through her long thick tresses.

"My whole life, I've been living the life that was expected of me. I was born into a family of riders, and I've followed the footsteps of those who came before me and those around me. I was able to feel things, peoples feelings. And the eagles. That's when I was given the title Endal and encouraged to follow my calling. True to my heritage, I found the hatchlings, and I bonded with Turiska." Crossing her arms, the rider looked at the ground, brows drawn slightly.

"It was only after I bonded with her that I found out just how committed that bond can be. Turiska is a one-person-bird, regardless of whether your an endal or a drudge. Being isolated from the other riders let me look at them from an outsiders point of view. And I hated what I saw." Shaking her head, the woman continued.

"We are walking amongst our own kind like some kind of demi-gods, with the knowledge that the Eagles speak to us alone. It's a powerful drug, and its warped us. I've tried to socialise when I can escape Turiska, with the others. But they are so full of themselves. So self righteous. Eventually I found my way to the lower levels, and found the company to be a lot better." Looking up, the rider raised an eyebrow and tilted her head to one side.

"What about you? I mean, I've met some avora before...but usually they are so far up an endal's ass that you can't see where one ends and another begins. And here, you live in the common. In reality, your worse than I am in being 'different.'"

Awakening (Kovac)

Postby Kovac on September 7th, 2010, 12:06 pm

Ensuring that his black bryda was securely fastened, Kovac looked up at Shayth slipping into her vinati. As she spoke about the Riders, he was a bit surprised that she criticized them so. Of course, he agreed with everything she said, it was just that the archer did not expect one of them to speak so strongly against the others. Kovac's contrary nature almost compelled him to speak up in their defense, but Qual's smug face appeared in his mind's eye, reminding him again why he held the Riders in disdain.

Reaching for his belt, a singled-edged dagger dangling from it in a scabbard, Kovac wrapped it around his waist. "Maybe I am a bit like you Endal, disillusioned by the system. But I am suited to be cynical, a half-breed, I am expected not to fit in. I have been wronged by a Rider and scorned by a lover. Anti-social and self-degrading behavior works for me." Walking over to a small corner table, he poured water from a plain pottery pitcher into a wooden mug and returned, offering it to Shayth. His head ached when he walked, and he assumed she had the same side effect of the wine they consumed the night before. The water would help hydrate her again.

His wry grin returned. "I will admit, I am glad you have chosen to come down from on high to mingle with us in the warrens. I rather enjoyed our mingling." The Avora had noted the change in Shayth's demeanor, her return to her more haughty air. In spite of it, or because of it, he was incredibly tempted to begin the taunting again. Unable to resist, he swatted her on her arse as he passed her to get himself a cup of water.

Awakening (Kovac)

Shayth watched as he dressed, admiring the simpleness of his attire. A bryda, a belt and a dagger. It wasn't artistic or flowery, it was simple and to the point - a trait she could appreciate. As he spoke, the endal frowed curiosly. Wronged by a rider and scorned by a lover. Had that been why he was so bitter and snarky at first? It explained his almost violent bedroom activies - something Shayth found herself smiling a little at as she recalled snippets of the night. Half-breed...the redhead found it intruiging. Secretly she waited for his eyes to shift.

Taking the cup, she sipped lightly. The wine had not left a headache, but the young woman felt seedy and a little shaky. Water was a welcome beverage. As the cheeky avora grinned at her, Shayth smiled back, delighted by his mischevious words. Opening her mouth to retort, she gasped and straighted up as he slapped her rump, cheeks burning. Glaring as he moved to get his own drink, the rider sipped the cool liquid.

"I must admit, mingling was a lot more...hands on then I expected." draining her cup, the rider cleared her throat, before narrowing her eyes.

"What happens now?" She asked casually, putting down the empty cup and folding her arms. There was an air of tension in her words, as though she wasn't sure if she was meant to do something or not.

Awakening (Kovac)

Postby Kovac on September 9th, 2010, 11:45 am

At Shayth's suggestive jibe, Kovac emitted a low laugh, accompanied by a sly, knowing grin. He sipped at his cup of water, taking the one the Rider had emptied and tossing it onto the bed.

Her next question caught Kovac off guard. What next? He had not really had to address that issue, at least since Kalle left him. If the woman was still around when he awoke, there was usually a few chimes of awkward silence as she gathered her things and slunk out. But this morning was different. The Avora did not wake to find that he was not attracted to the woman, or disrespected her for giving herself to the likes of himself. Quite the contrary, Kovac reveled in waking next to the sultry Shayth, finding her as desirable as he had the night before.

As Shayth secured her vinati, Kovac shuffled in a moment of discomfort. The archer was having a difficult time accepting a certain notion. The notion that he actually hoped for something 'next'. His friends were few and far....his friends were non-existent. He had connected with the fiery redhead, not only sexually, but in a kindred spirit sort of way. He liked her company. But Kovac was stubborn and difficult, even with himself. He would not allow himself to simply admit he liked her, but he did, and his surly ego wrestled to keep his miserable isolationism intact.

"Next...you get back to your aerie before Turiska tears Wind Reach apart looking for you. I will avoid same Turiska, who will certainly seek my death. Then, if we both survive, and under the threat of eagle attack and beatings by our peers, we secretly meet to enjoy verbally abusing each other."
Kovac joked sardonically, but with a wide smile.

Shayth looked at the archer for a minute, nodding her head slowly. Pursing her lips slightly, she moved away from the table. Turiska of course, was a bit of a problem. But the redhead could feel it was something more. He joked, of course, but to the endal it felt like a slight brush off. She had felt something of a connection with the archer - and the morning kiss had carried under tones even if it hadn't meant to. Still, he was right. If any of the other riders found them out, they would not only be shunned, but there was serious danger of attack. Retribution.

Turning her blue gazed back on him, Shayth shot him a lopsided grin.

"Good for nothing drudge." She mumbled, as though she was taking him up on the verbal abuse. A niggling feeling tugged at the back of her mind. Turiska was looking for her now. It must be later than it appeared. She really had to go. Resting her hands on her hips, the redhead looked at the ground and laughed.

"Maybe I'll see you 'round the tavern sometime? I mean, its not like your going to accidently run into me in the aerie."

Awakening (Kovac)

Postby Kovac on September 15th, 2010, 3:54 pm

Kovack watched Shayth, not only because she was very pleasing to look at, but to study her. The cynical avora was not very social, but he did spend time studying people. Learning to read people's hidden reactions just made his surly behavior more fun. And now, he noticed the vague disappointment in the Rider's averted gaze.

Shayth's jibe was not her usual fiery retort, and Kovac sensed she felt trepidation. Was it fear of facing Turiska? Maybe she mistook his intention at his jest. The archer had not expressed the extent to which he was attracted to the Endal. That was not his style, to make things easy. But Shayth was not just another drunken night, and Kovac knew it. And something in him wanted to make sure she knew it too. He looked her over again, hands on hips and long red mane cascading over her shoulders. He would have taken her again, right then and there. But now was not the time.

With quick steps, Kovac closed the distance between them and with a finger on her chest, pushed her against the wall. After a quick glance into her eyes, he leaned in and kissed her passionately. After a long moment, he released, again catching her reddened blue eyes. A wry grin crossed his lips. "Don't be so sure, I know where the aeries are, you never know where I may show up." The Avora stepped back, smile widening, and flashed a roguish wink.
