While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Time stamp 39th of Spring 514 AV

It had been a long and harsh winter for the trickster, and equally eye-opening as well. He had left one world to get away from an unfair leadership and a heavy foot upon his back, to walk right into a jealous dictator that changed the rules to fit her needs whenever it suited her. Afterwords, the Dhani started to wonder if he would ever get a fair shake, or if all the world behaved in this way. He left Kenash and followed along aside a merchant group that were leaving there and heading to Syliras to trade. Mamoru knew nothing of this city but if there was a chance that it was better than the last he had visited, then he would give it a try.

He moved away from the caravan that he had been traveling with and struck out on his own. This land was still so new to him and it was very different than the jungles he was used to. The forest was dry and with the Spring arriving also came a bunch of smelly plants that tickled his nose in the wrong way. Fresh grass grew beneath his feet and the birds in the trees above his head fluttered about, singing songs of joy enough to irritate him into moving. Mamoru was in human form, dressed in his normal dark clothing and carrying with him a backpack with items to help him survive in the wild during his trip.

Along with his dark clothing and backpack, the trickster carried his trusty Naginata just in case he ran into trouble along the road while he was setting up camp. The world over was so very dangerous, creatures of the night, Myrians and now Rajuro. There was a never ending threat in the world and he was just trying to stay alive long enough to see it through to the end. The Dhani headed along the road scoping out the layout of the land and putting it to memory in case he needed to backtrack during the night.

It was Spring now and like all snakes he was glad for the coming heat. Being from the jungle he was used to having even warm winters, but in this place it got so cold that the ground and trees turned to frost and Mamoru was not thrilled to be in it. His heavy boots trampled the freshly growing flowers at his feet, his weapon of choice used almost like a walking cane as he made his way closer to the city. He wouldn't enter yet, no he wasn't that trusting, never again. The trickster would first need to learn about the place and the people there, then and only then would he enter.

A Snake In The Grass ( Oriah )

Up somewhere in the newly budding canopy of the woods, Oriah tried her best to uncramp her left leg without falling face first onto the forest floor below. Spring had made its undeniable arrival by now, but traces of Morwen's former reign still lingered. Especially this high up, in this godsforsaken tree, with the godsforsaken wind nipping at her limbs.

Blessed Yahal, what had Mora meant for her to watch for anyway?

"You'll know, Little Bird. Keep your eyes fresh." That was all the Chaktawe had said before sinking into the shadows once more, keeping watch over the forest in that inexplicable, eerily omniscient way of hers.

With a grumble and sigh, the squire had done as she was told. She worked her way up the easiest tree she could climb with slow, cautious movements, placing a foot and a hand one at a time on top of gnobbly branches. The exertion of the climb lent her some warmth for the first few chimes, but it was a brief period of grace. It wasn't long before she became plagued with discomfort, boredom, and impatience. Oriah wasn't one to complain against her rightful duties, but there was little righteousness she could detect up in her cramped, lonesome post.

She was in the middle of dozing off when the telltale squeak and creak of a cumbersome caravan jolted her awake. It was still a good distance away, but Oriah tracked its progress with hungry eyes. If she returned with a satisfactory report, perhaps she could be freed from this miserable role.

The squire was just about the descend, giddiness in her heart, when something caught her eye. A lone figure--dark and lean, though the features were impossible to make out--broke off from the main group. For the next half of a chime, Oriah warred with herself. She yearned to be somewhere warmer, preferably with a fire and some food to make up for at least a bell's worth of arboreal torment. But her instincts kept insisting that this was what Mora had intended for her to notice. And, if the girl didn't follow through, she would only face disappointment and even worse tests once she returned.

Gritting her teeth, Oriah tracked the figure's progress as long as she could. Then she slipped down from her lofty perch and landed on the soft earth on both feet. The squire broke out into a brisk jog as she worked to piece together where this black sheep might be when she regained a line of vision again, wondering all the while what motives a person might have to strike out on their own. The road was not as dangerous during the day, but it seemed strange nonetheless.

Well, only one way to find out.

She kept her distance to conceal her presence as best she could, struggling to keep her movement silent. Soon, the figure would be far enough from the caravan for its groaning wheels to no longer provide her footsteps ample cover. Oriah would be on her own. The girl gulped, then steeled her will and moved from tree to tree, always keeping her darkly clad target in sight.

He--for she was fairly certain the figure was a man now--was getting closer to the city, but did not seem intent on entering it. What was he doing? Why was he meandering out here all on his own? Curses, he was dipping out of her sight again.

In her haste, the squire stepped forward without looking and her foot snapped a brittle twig. She froze, heart hammering, sweat beading her brow.
