Salt water; it was everything Stefan could see, feel, taste and even breathe right now. The waters were furious around him, like an animal playing a game before trying to swallow him whole. He wasn’t dead, at least not yet, but he wished he was.

All he could remember was a fight, after the Djed storm... they managed to survive it, but what came next took them by surprise. Sailors, both Svefra and Humans, separated from the Anchorage Flotilla, attacking them with a never ending grudge. Stefan defended himself the best he could, using a dagger and all the skills he had learnt in barely three years at sea... but it wasn’t enough. Of course it wasn’t enough. That’s why Stefan went overboard after the attack, right towards the stormy waters.

And then, it was just that damn salt water. He swallowed a lot of it, and moved him like a ragdoll. He didn’t know where, but all he wanted to do was survive... to breathe air again, to see the sun, and to get out of the damned salt water.

He managed to clutch his dagger, though. He didn’t let it go, by any chance. It was still in his hand, and it was probable that if he died, it would have remained there, clutched in his dead, cold hands. He wouldn’t have to wait too much to find out. He could feel his breath failing him, his limbs getting numb, and everything getting black.

He only had one breath left. One breath of air, nothing more, and then he was sure he was going to drown. Taking the scarce air that was left in his lungs, he yelled as loud as he could. “Please, anybody, help me!

And then he was cold, and everything went dark, and even though Stefan didn’t believe in miracles, he was hoping that something, somebody, anything would help him, as he sank down on the cold waters on the Suvan Sea.

It hurt, it had hurt her so badly. The charoda didn't dare move. Motionless against the currents attempted to sweep her off, Mirayel couldn't think of anything but the raging waters that had spat her here. A strong taste of blood lingering in her mouth at threaten to make her sick, grew more intense as a passing bout of turbulence pulled at her wounds once again. The day old scabs barely fought against it as they split open again, new pain blurring into old.

It shouldn't have been like this, only the day before she had been exploring the cliffs. Calm and peaceful, a maiden gliding through Laviku's realm with perfect ease. That was quickly changed when that storm came. There had been no warning, only a sudden heavy of the world around her and blackness as she was slammed against the cliff face. Where she was now, the amphibian couldn't tell. Turning her head stiffly to the side only yielded more open water, not even a boat or fish in sight. Nothing. But her and Laviku and the raging tides.

Or at least so she thought. Vibrating suddenly through the sea came a gurgled shriek, shaking the amphibian from her pain briefly before it seared it's way back into her mind. What the kelp had that been? Tilting her head backwards, laced the black sinking body of a person into her vision. She wasn't alone. Gripping her lip between her teeth, Mirayel attempted to push off the sea floor. Only one of her limbs respond to the order but it was enough for her to be caught by the current.

Flipping head over heels, the two bodies collided roughly. The impact. That agony would haunt her in nightmares for seasons to come. White light danced over her eyes, before her left arm snaked under the man's armpit to grab at his neck. It was definitely a man; a land dweller at that. He wasn't dead yet either, pulse throbbing from his chest into her own. However it wouldn't be long, his kind never fared well beneath the surface. They needed air. [Being edited]Well there was only one way she could fix that in this state.

Lips met in an open mouthed kiss as her webbed had gripped tightly into the land dwellers brown locks. Heaving in Mirayel pulled the water from the man's lungs, letting it bubble out of her nose slits. Skin filtering oxygen out of the surrounding water, the charoda's lungs filled then expelled the air through into the land dweller. In again then out once more with just under a chime in between for her skin to condition of air that she mouth fed back to the limp body.

It was hard work and felt unnatural at that; Charodae, although they could, never had a reason to fill their lungs with air like this. However she was desperately out of options and could barely move in the state that she was in. If Mirayel wanted to get back to her family, the charoda was going to need an able body. Just like in order to return to the surface this man needed her.

Together they may just make it, she thought as the sea throw them onwards together to waters unknown.

At first, everything was cold: a cold so overwhelming, so deep, that it could only be the bittersweet embrace of Dira. And for a moment, Stefan thought it that way... until he could breathe air again; sweet, if salty, air. He took various moments to breathe, to make sure he was still alive, and opened his eyes slowly. The water stung his eyes at first, but a few chimes later, he could see that it was not Dira that was embracing him, but someone else... his sight was still blurry, but Stefan could discern dark eyes... grey skin... and red; a lot of red.

Passing his hands through her skin, he could feel a rubbery texture... and it was oddly warm, at least compared to the cold ocean along them. His hand could tell that it was a woman, and the second that Stefan noticed that he was breathing from her mouth, he closed his eyes. He didn’t want to go, knowing that he would die if he did. With each slow breath, he got closer to her, thanking to no one in particular the saving touch of her lips, as both of them were carried away by the current of the sea.

The current carried them both, the Human and the Charoda, as they embraced like it was a dance for their survival, but it had to end, because before they noticed, they were laying on top of wet sand, with the sun shining brightly above them.

Stefan broke the kiss, and rolled onto his back, opening his eyes. The blue sky was all he could see, and the sand all he could feel right now. He relaxed his hand, letting the dagger on the sand, as an audible laugh escaped his lips. He was alive. He survived again.

He got up again, slowly but surely, as he coughed loudly, spitting the salt water. At this moment, all Stefan wanted to do was throw up... get rid of the salt water that he swallowed, but that was soon replaced by the sight of somebody alongside him... the one that saved his life. And then, the horror struck him.

He was right, it was a woman, of the Charoda race, no less... and she was horribly wounded. Almost all of the right side of her body was missing, almost as if a hungry predator has got her. And she was lying there, on the sand as the waves washed her lower body.

“Oh gods no...” his joy of survival was soon replaced with horror, and then with concern. He took off his light orange shirt and used it to apply pressure to one of the various wounds. It wasn’t enough, but that was all he could do, as he tried to wash the pouring blood with the water that washed on the shore. He didn’t even realize where he was, nor cared about it; his mind was concentrated of stopping the bleeding, even though he didn’t know who to do it.

She wasn't sure how long she held lip lock with the land dweller, only that the air eventually roused him into wriggling in her grasp. His two arms curled around her, her wounds screamed out at the sudden touch, sending out more blood into the water that surrounded them. As the grip tightened, her own fingers uncurled from the man's hair. There was no need to waste the energy now he was conscious and no longer in any danger of floating away. Heaving in again, all remaining focus was poured into keeping her breathing at a steady rhythm. In and out and in and out.

Consumed by the task, she had barely noted the waters around her grow shallower, only realising they had reached dry land by the sharp prickles of the sandy beach grazing her back. The pair beached gentle at first only for the ocean to change it mind, hauling them back out with the tide and throwing them further on to the shore. Mirayel didn't appreciate it's change of mind at all, groaning softly before easing into the soft mud beneath her.

Parting their lips, the man released his grip and rolled on to the beach gasping like a fish on land. He was definitely conscious now, chuckling madly in the salty air between coughing fits. Maybe if she had had the will to move, the Charoda would have also been laughing. Things being as they were she just felt tired, painfully tired. The corners of her vision were blurring as a shadow crossed over her vision, what was that?

A sudden shriek of common and an equally as sudden appearance of the man's face answered the question swiftly. He was panicking. Was it her? Had he never seen a Charoda before? Unlikely, most land dwellers around here had at least heard of her kind before. Then again where exactly was she- Why was he taking his top off!?

The now topless land dweller had quickly stripped him self of his upper clothing, balling it up in one fist as he approached her body. So this was why you shouldn't go around kissing strangers. Moving in dangerously close to her, the man thrust the top into her injured side, breaking the barricade of numbness from before. Slamming her mouth together in a grinding battle of three rows of snarling razor sharp teeth, Mirayel cursed the man out silently in her mother-tongue.

The cursing became a lot less silent when the idiot tried the same thing again, nearer her chest. Out of pure knee jerk reaction, her only moving limb balled up it's fist and struck out at the man. Not entirely sure if the blow stuck, Mirayel gained enough sense to swapped from growling in Char to shrieking in Common at the air-breathing half wit.

“Stop it! Me injured! Hurting! You make it worse!”

Firmly believing to have now gotten the man's attention, the amphibian's mind raced to see if there was anything she could actually get him to do that would be helpful. What did people normally do to help the injured? Well, whenever she cut got hurt as a hatchling, her Papa would always wrap the wound in large pieces of leafy green seaweed, the soft, wet tissue naturally soothing the wounds. That could work or it could just be her kind's obsession with seaweed, either way it was worth a shot. Adjusting her tone from hysterical to commanding, Mirayel slid up the translucent eyelids covering her brown rimmed eyes and fixed the man's gaze with her own.

“You want to help, yes? Wrap in Seaweed then, Kelp brain, instead of make worse!”

Apparently, the Charoda could speak Common, and the fact that she was throwing insults at him gave it away quite well, but just after she keened him on the side. Now that was gratitude. He stopped pressing on her bleeding wounds with his shirt, when she gave away the instructions. Seaweed? Now that was odd, but he didn’t have time to think about it. He left his shirt at one side.

He stood up from the sand, and looked again at the sea. “This is a joke...” he thought “I almost drowned and now...” but with a quick glance at the bleeding amphibian, he made up his mind. He jumped again at the ocean, and started to swim towards deeper waters. Then, he took a breath of air and got down onto the sea. The water was clear enough and the sun was bright, so he could see the bottom sand, and started to look for the seaweed the Charoda needed. It took him various tries, and he actually needed to go to the surface to breathe again a couple of times before he managed to find a good patch of seaweed.

The leafy, bright green plant, rooted on the sand was waving on the current. He took them with his hands, and planting his feet on the seafloor, he pulled the seaweed, taking it out from the bottom.

Now that Stefan had it, he swam again towards the island on the other side of the water, and ran as quickly as he could towards the wounded and bleeding Charoda. The sand on her right side was completely covered in blood. “Alright, hold still... this will probably hurt...”

Stefan didn’t know anything about medicine, but he did know about knots. He first wrapped her ankle, making a knot with the seaweed. Her arm was soon covered on the green, leafy plant too, but the problem began on her thigh and face. Stefan first tied two pieces of seaweed together, to make the makeshift bandage long enough to cover her leg. Her face was next, but he ended up covering most of her head with it. His hands explored her body as he tied the knots with the seaweed, often needing to do it various times, since the plant broke off easily. Fortunately, all the seaweed he managed to get was just enough for it.

When she was properly bandaged, Stefan tried to remember what he knew about Charodae, which wasn’t much... the first thing that came to mind, was that they needed water to survive. Stefan put his arms under the Charoda carefully, and then held her up, carrying her towards the water. He walked until he was abdomen-deep on the water, and let her sink under the surface slightly to wash the sand off the wounds and clean them, still holding her in his arms, and close to his chest.
