Inoadar waited a moment for her to show herself below the surface, but there was no sign. He knew that it was too dark underwater for her to have any chance of seeing his form if it was more than a couple feet away. He would have sighed if he was above the surface. And he DID, when his head broke the surface one time to see her thrashing her way back to the dock. It appeared that she had changed her mind about coming along.

He shrugged, and rolled back under the surface. He thought she might see his one descending kick, but there was no time to sit and wait to see if she was going to try again. She'd made her choice. He tried to resist the thought of what she looked like with her clothes fitting wetly to her scrumptious body, but that was counter productive. He knew where he was going, and there wasn't much time to spare.

His lungs were already expressing their displeasure by the time he located the pipe ladder, in the center of the block, and followed it up to a hatch in the underside of the floating platform. 'An excrement shaft...of course.' The mood of his acknowledgement of this detail was almost as foul as the smell, when his head broke the surface in a small pocket between braces and stabilizers under the building.

He saw the blades of some sort of fan to his left. They hung into the water several inches. It appeared this device was cranked from the inside to create a current to drive the "debris" away from the house and into the open waters of the lake. He was going to have to climb the shaft. He wondered for a moment if this ordeal was worth the mizas. Then he saw the secondary access. It was an opening to get to the fan's cam. His relief was considerable at the realization that he could unfasten the fan assembly and climb through the ensuing cavity to get into the home that way.

This detail was not in the instruction packet, but Inoadar decided vindictively that it should have been. He doubted that he could save the apparatus from falling into the lake, but that was not his concern. And if the contract wanted to object, to the point of refusing payment, then Inoadar decided with a grin that there was "very good chance" that one or more of the letters might fall into the hands of the people keeping watch on the house.

Spending the time required to loosen the bolts on the base for the fan, he let it drop into the water. He was surprised to find that it was secured by a rope, which kept it from washing away or sinking. A rope which made also it much easier for him to climb up into the house. He squeezed his way out of the base of a cupboard near the "throne" and looked around. He knew he'd made enough noise to have been heard by anyone still in the house, but he heard no one approach.

He recalled that the job description said the man was already in detention, and the home had already been searched. Inoadar could imagine that the authorities were giving it some time to see if someone bit on the bait and came to the house in some more visible fashion. He thought it very likely that they knew this might be a card at The Spot.

Inoadar could imagine the odds of anyone finding the hiding place of the letters and dagger. In the packet he'd been given at The Spot, there was mention of a floor lamp in the bedroom. He went around the corner and found the room, and the only lamp that could be described as a floor lamp.

There was a portion that would constitute the "sconce" of the lamp; the actual cup that held the candle or torch. It had fittings for both. There was a good two inches of wax collected in the bottom of the sconce from old candles over the years. Ideally, he would light a fire and heat the wax to pour it out, which would expose a key.

Inoadar did not think it prudent to light a fire. It being night, and the fact of people watching the house, made it a bad decision. All he could do was dig through it with his dagger. he found the key easily enough, but the wax was disturbed so as to clearly indicate someone's effort having been made. But he reasoned that if he got the letters and knife out undetected, what matter if someone came later to find wax crumbled and slashed.

He did, however, take a few moments to further slash the wax up and completely obliterate the impression of the key there. No sense in leaving clues. Now he went to the fireplace. Also in his job packet, was a magnet. Detailed in the instructions was a particular brick on the left side. He placed the magnet flush against it and turned it clockwise a half turn. The details said it might take three times to fully turn the metal T-bar inside.

Now he went to the front of the fireplace and located a particular mortar groove between a certain set of bricks near the left side. He set the magnet there and slid it to the right. He knew it might take more than one effort, so he did it three more times.

He couldn't hear any sort of click or anything over the scraping sound of the magnet being slid over the mortar. But he trusted the instructions and went back around to the side and found that one brick could now be pulled free. There was a keyhole behind it, just as the instructions had said. He turned it and the adjacent brick came partly away, leaving the exposed end of a pull handle.

He pulled up on it and heard a scraping sound near his feet. He smiled and knelt at the hearth. It still took some effort, but he could slide it now on its pivot point on the front right corner. There was a niche revealed below the hearth, with the letters and the dagger. He scooped it all up and tucked them into the leather bag he'd brought. It was not waterproof, but it didn't matter if they got ruined now. As for the dagger, it was to simply be released to the waters of Lake Ravok.

Inoadar replaced the hearth, replaced the pull bar handle and set the brick cap over the handle. Before he replaced the brick he'd fully removed, he noted a slot in the end that would be inserted into the gap. AS he put the brick back in, he saw the end of the T-bar. In the vertical position it now occupied, it would fit right into the slot. Then turning it with the magnet would put it across the slot, making it impossible to open.

He used the magnet to reverse the steps he'd used before, to accomplish this, then went back to the access shaft for the hand cranked current generator. He climbed back down and bolted the fan apparatus back in place. A swim, a ravosala ride, and a walk back to The Spot later, he was standing at the bar, waiting to be paid.
