The Glyphs held meanings; they held purpose and defined the language of magic in ways that the majority of people could not hope to understand. Annalisa Marin gazed over the cleared floor before her, grey eyes looking over the patterns that would be birthed in order to complete this little project she had set out for herself. A means to show that Glyphing could affect and separate the effects of magic into different results than the initial, a difficult thing to be sure but the sorceress was confident she could accomplish this task. The more she practiced and research, the more she learned and understood.

The tall woman took up one of the pieces of chalk and knelt to the floor, her hands exploding into action as soon as they brought the chalk to where it was needed. The piece of chalk clacked over the floor as the sorceress brought to life her Glyphs upon the stone, arcane symbols bringing with them meaning and purpose. Her movements were natural, fluid, almost as though she did not even need to think about the Glyphs themselves. The speed at which she drew them was impeccable, far outstripping what many other wizards could hope to achieve.

The first Glyph was a large stylized inverted triangle, the Focus Glyph which was the most vital in most every Sigil. Its purpose was to store or channel existing magic, making it essential in the role of centerpiece in the majority of Sigils. The shape itself was simply an indication of her specific style and was not a factor in determining the Glyph’s effectiveness. Rather it was her confidence and skill as a Glypher that reflected and decided effectiveness. The sigil itself was also important of course, it needed to be functional by the basic laws of Glyphing.

The Focus finished Anna started upon the Barrier around it, creating smaller geometric shapes in a ring around the large focus. They were designed to contain and hold magical effects within a certain space; within the Barrier she also included two smaller Glyphs in the shape of x’s that would connect two Paths when the sigil was near completion. This done Anna stepped away from this area and moved to a spot a few feet away and drew another Focus Glyph and another Barrier around it. She then moved in the opposite direction and repeated the same sigils, ending with a grand total of three foci and three barriers.

This task accomplished Anna created lines of geometric shapes that moved out from the central Barrier and branched out to the other two Barriers. These were Paths, Glyphs designed to carry magical effects along a certain direction and to a certain destination. Anna was hoping to split up the effects of the magic she was to place inside the central Focus using the two paths, to create two smaller effects from the same magic. The magic in question being Voiding, to create two smaller Portals from one large one stored within a Focus.

Once finished the tall woman moved to the central Barrier and placed a jumble of geometric shapes just outside of it, the trigger for this particular part of the sigil. Beneath this Anna wrote out a basic Trigger condition in common beneath it, a verbal being the only one she foresaw needing. Grey eyes scanned over the wording briefly to ensure it was correct, the world seeming to melt away from her as she became absorbed entirely in her craft. Her mind was utterly focused upon the tasks at hand as well as the end goal to her work.

When the phrase ‘splitting the darkness’ is spoken by Annalisa Marin, the creator of this sigil, the Trigger will lower the Barrier and send the effects within the Focus moving along the Paths.

This done Anna moved to the other two Barriers and repeated the process with them, creating Triggers instead that were to activate under a different condition. She wanted this to be a fluid sigil and for the activations to be set and controlled to her specifications. As such this other trigger was designed to reflect that specific condition, ensuring that once the first trigger was activated the rest of the sigil would follow.

When magic that is the product of Voiding enters the Focus of this section of the sigil, only after Annalisa Marin activates the Trigger of the central focus, the Trigger will lower the Barrier and release the magic contained within the Focus.

These final Triggers completed Anna stood and placed the little nub of chalk to the side and rolled her shoulders, getting some feeling back in her body. The tall woman paced around the array of Glyphs, taking it in at its base elements and then as a whole. It looked perfectly functional to her eyes; it should very well carry out the desired task that Anna had set for it though only time could tell. For now the next step would be to fill the central Focus with a Portal.

Splitting Nothing

Anna closed her eyes and drew in breath through her nose, releasing it out through her mouth as she attempted to clear her mind. She needed to focus for this next part of her project for today, she could not afford her hallucinations getting in the way of her casting. Meditation techniques often assisted in keeping her focus during the act of casting, calming her somewhat during the process. Remaining in control when making use of Voiding was of paramount importance, therefore Anna intended to use every skill she possessed to mitigate her hallucinations.

With each cycled breath the tall woman felt more clear headed, more focused upon the task at hand as soothing control washed over her mind. She could do this, she controlled her magic not the other way around and she would not allow herself to be ruled by irrational fears of what could possibly happen over her research. This was where she could truly thrive, petch politics or the agendas of other wizards, she was a sorceress and in that she found a small bit of self-expression. No matter how embittered she became towards magic that remained a simple fact of who she was.

The sorceress opened her eyes grey orbs settling on the open air before her, right hand stretching out over the air above the central Focus. She reached deep within herself, at that wellspring of her being that comprised her Djed. She gathered up that vital energy and focused upon a singular point near her hand, grey eyes narrowing as she did. Anna willed her Djed to then empty out the matter within that space near her hand, to create a bridge between This Side and The Other Side.

At first nothing happened, however after ten ticks a rush of energy flowed from Anna and to that space as her initial Portal sparked into existence. The sorceress quickly fed the newborn Portal a steady amount of her Djed, stabilizing the construct through sheer willpower. From here she steadily increased the amount of energy she placed into the Portal, a signal for it to grow slowly to her dictation. The drain upon her was constant as the Portal required constant maintenance to properly exist; otherwise it would eventual cancel out if left to its own devices.

The Portal grew and grew, slowly but surely the black Vortex increased in size to Anna’s dictation and as it did the tall woman could feel the urge there. To make the Portal massive, to consume this whole section of the Common Labs, no, to swallow all of Sahova in the Void and send all those that dared stand against her screaming into the darkness. However the urge was resisted as the tall woman halted the steady increase once the Portal had grown to the size of the average man, her face a mask of the purest concentration.

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

The incantations dripped softly from her lips as she held her focus upon the Portal floating before her, used to keep control. The hallucinations played with her eyes, indistinguishable shapes flickering into existence behind the darkness, shifting as they toyed with her mind. They were not real but still there was that small part of her that felt a degree of irrational fear that something did exist beyond the Portal, that it was lying in wait for her to slip up in order to drag her into the depths of that dark abyss.

Anna shook aside these feelings and slowly started to lower the Portal into the Focus below, moving her hand down with the larger Portal. The Focus seemed to ripple like a liquid as the purple borders of the Portal met it, the inky blackness sinking into the Glyph. Soon enough the Portal had vanished entirely and the constant drain upon her Djed was suddenly gone, the Portal to the Void now contained within the central Focus. Which meant the next step would be activation.

Splitting Nothing

Anna stepped back from the array of Glyphs, taking a deep breath to calm herself as excitement and anticipation grew inside her breast. Soon she would have her answer of whether or not the effects could be split between the Glyphs, she suspected that they could but this would provide the definitive answer. After a few more ticks to recover mentally from the casting she had just experienced the tall woman stared down at the central Focus, activation being her clear intension in mind for the next phase of the experiment and the most important one really.

“Splitting the darkness.” Anna said calmly.

The second the words left her lips the sigils sprang into actions, inky black dots streaking out along both Paths towards their respective Glyphs and arriving at their Foci. Anna smiled victoriously when next the next set of triggers activated and fully released the Portals, two smaller black Portals coming into existence instantly and the Glyphs upon the floor then faded. The sorceress resisted the urge to let out a nervous laugh, the sigil had actually worked and now she possessed two Portal to the Void activated at once which was impossible for her with just Voiding alone.

Curiously Anna wondered if she could perhaps take control of both Portals at once now that they were manifested, she didn’t see why not so first she reached out with her Djed to form a connection with the one on her right that had begun to slowly shrink. The connection was made and she could already feel her energy being siphoned steadily from her, a constant influx of energy going into the small Portal. The tall woman opted to keep it at this size, her brow still creasing in concentration at needing to maintain the bridge between two dimensions.

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

More incantations dripped from her lips as she stabilized the torso sized Portal to keep the connection synchronized to her, feeling the vortex become more orderly. The Ancient Tongue words assisted in her focusing more upon the task at hand and less on the ever present urge, that which willed her to go ever onwards and upwards. The hallucinations were never a problem with smaller sized Portals like these, only entering into the equation if the Portals could absorb a grown man rather easily.

This connection established the tall woman attempted to reach out with her Djed to the other Portal, hoping to maintain the pair at once. Unfortunately the splitting in attention merely resulted in her losing her connection to the first one, instead connecting her full connection towards the other Portal. Anna frowned slightly at the failure, figuring that perhaps she just wasn’t at the degree of power and understanding that could maintain two Portals at once. This was rather irritating but in theory the idea of holding dominion over two Portals to the Void seemed possible, it would just require a bit more practice no doubt.

Curiously Anna regarded both Portals, pausing as she was about to simply drop her connection towards one and instead pondering over something she had wondered over for a little bit of time. Portals were canceled out when they tried to absorb something larger than they could control, when their core was filled with matter, or when they were disrupted. What would then happen if two Portal made contact with each other and overlapped? A possible last test before wrapping up her project for the day? Perhaps, since Anna still possessed a bit of Djed to maintain control over one and move it towards the other one.

The tall dark haired woman slowly moved closer towards the Portal she possessed control off, her face a mask of concentration as she fed the small torso sized Portal more of her Djed. Once the tall woman drew close enough she slowly moved her hand, gripping at the connection shared by both her and the Portal like it was some form of leash. She dragged the Portal by this leash and moved it to a certain direction that she dictated, facing the other slowly shrinking Portal in the opposite direction.

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

Her steps were slow and careful as she moved the Portal across the lab space, the chill of the Void itself seeming to radiate out from the inky black vortex. Incantations continued to softly fall from her mouth, the Ancient Tongue words keeping her on the task at hand once again through the euphoric haze of casting. The Portal she was beginning to advance towards was slowly becoming smaller and smaller, indicating that a small degree of expediency was needed before she lost her chance to properly test out this possibility.

The dark haired woman could feel sweat forming on her brow as she moved, each step seeming to measure for miles at a time combined with slowly decreasing energy in her body due to sending more and more of Djed into the Portal she was currently moving. Anna gritted her teeth and continued her progress, refusing to simply stop and give up when there was a possible new discovery waiting so close at hand. She had no idea the effects that would be found when the two Portals would meet, and logically she might have realized that the effects might very well be explosive. Probably would have been best to wait, or at least cover herself in protective Glyphs but she was half caught up in the haze of casting and faced with possibly new information.

Closer and closer she inched towards the shrinking Portal, finally she reached the other Portal when it was about half of the size of her own. The dark haired woman moved the two Portals together, making them over lap and the drawing her hand away as quickly as possible. The result was rather fascinating to view, and was actually something the tall woman had not expected. The two black Vortexes actually appeared to eat each other, devouring and feeding upon each other until the two simply fell out of existence with and audible popping noise.

The woman lifted a single black brow, gazing upon the rippling in the air where both had existed and slowly drumming her fingers on her chin. That had been something the sorceress had rather not expected, not only did the Portal cancel each other out but they seemed to eat each other. A rather spectacular way for them to die out, impressive as well if she was to be perfectly honest though it seemed to raise only further questions. Were Portals simply incompatible with each other? Was it because they both led to the same dimension or simply that on charged with her Djed met one that was not?

Anna let out a soft groan, feeling rather hungry and exhausted for the casting in today’s little project. It had certainly yielded results the tall sorceress would likely find herself pondering over, as well as planning to build off of in her spare time. However for now she needed to rest before further trials could be run on matters of the Void, a temporary hold on the projects like it always was. No doubt her potent hunger for more knowledge in matters of Voiding would see her return here.

Additional:
This was a wonderful thread! Now, however, Anna is just about past the point where she will recieve many points for just opening a portal and moving it around. She is more than capable of more interesting uses, and more physically and demanding tasks as well. Keep this in mind as you make more solos, because things like this wont earn you as many points any more :). If you have any questions send me a PM!
