Luminary Commons

Every city needs a place for people to eat and in Avanthal that place is the Luminary Commons. This is the main workplace of Winterflame hold. The building is kept warm not only by fireplaces but the heat of the kitchen. The Commons' kitchen is larger than any kitchen in Avanthal and it always extremely busy with Winterflame members bustling about making food and drinks. The kitchen is run by Nennvar Winterflame, the leader of Winterflame hold. The workers are very hard working and due to the tiring conditions of the job cooks work once every three days. Workers are allowed to work more often but are not encouraged to because the work is strenuous. The cooks love their job and are closer than any other group of workers in the city.

The Commons is pretty much a big cafeteria but much more fancy looking. There are tables evenly spaced throughout the commons and each has a set of chairs. Visitors are expected to tell the cooks what they want and then return to get their food. There are no waiters or busboys. Everyone is expected to clean up after themselves and if they don't they have to face the wrath of Nennvar. There are rarely issues with clutter in the commons as long as everyone does their part and keeps it clean after they leave.

He is a very nervous individual and cannot seem to function unless everything is working just as he sees it should in his mind. He is friendly to people but in truth he is better at shouting orders in the kitchen then talking to people face to face. He is married to Paxta Winterflame.

Day 13 of Summer, 511 Av

Rykker was lost in the city and starving. He was looking for some meat and something hearty. He had not seemed to find The Red Diamond Tavern, and through the vast whiteness that seemed to be all he could see he saw a golden light in the distance. It looked inviting, and smelled of food, that was all he wanted if it were the place he was looking for then great if not at this point he didn’t care what it was called as long as it served food.

He pushed the door open and the whoosh of warm air came toward him and it felt good. He walked through the door and looked about it was busy, and after a few minute of watching what people were doing he soused out that he was to go and order what he wanted and then sit down. It looked like it was a self serve type place as people were cleaning up after themselves too. That was fine as long as he would eventually have food in front of him.

He walked up to the counter and looked at what they had to offer. He ordered beef vegetables and some potatoes. However, everything smelled good in the place. He really had to stop himself from ordering everything he saw actually. He nodded his thanks at the cook, and paid where he was supposed to and then made a way to a table after getting a drink and took a seat to get his food.

He relaxed sipping on his drink, watching those around him, who also watched him with curious eyes. Sometimes he wished he looked more like his mother then his father. He sighed as he watched for his food to come up and to eat. He would have to suffer stared for a while until they got used to him. He tried to smile at some of the curious eyes that looked at him, but it was hard his more cynical, hateful side wanted to scowl and scare them off. He had to remember though that these were his people, or he hoped they would be as half his blood was Vantha as far as he was concerned, he couldn’t help what the other half was.

"One order of beef vegetables, and some potatoes," the Coolwater who took Rykker's order called back to those in the kitchen. There came a nod from a Vantha off in the corner, who instantly got to work, running to the center of the kitchen, where there was a large island, that held every sort of cooking supply imaginable. She pulled a set of tongs off the shelf that hung from the ceiling, and grabbed a thick slice of meat. She held the meat between the silver tongs, letting the meat droop down the sides, as she pulled out a plate to let the meat's blood drip down into. She carried it over to her working station, and set everything down. Swiftly, she doused her pan in oil before tossing the meat in, and going back to the center of the kitchen for a pile of mixed vegetables and pre-cubed potatoes.

The Vantha took these back to her station, and threw them into a pan of butter, allowing them to simmer before sprinkling a few spices such as dill and oregano over the top. After which time, she flipped the steak over, allowing the juices that dripped off the meat to sizzle and bubble before she sprinkled some sage, and over it. A few minutes later, she had taken everything off the stove, and covered the steak with a special, pre-made wine sauce. She garnished the plate with a bit of basil, before heading to the counter where everyone took their orders. "Here's that order you asked for," she said, as she lay it down on the counter. Steam billowing off the freshly-cooked food. "Lets hope they enjoy it."

Rykker looked up when he saw what looked like his meal. He made eye contact with the person he had ordered it from as he set it on the counter and he nodded his head to say it was his. He got up, took the plate, and headed back down toward his table he had just left. He set the plate down, picked up the utensils that were left on the tables, and started to eat it. The spicing, tenderness of the cut, and the way it was cooked melted in his mouth and he smiled. If anything he would get fat and happy eating the food here if this was any example of all the cooking here. He would have to maybe do some training in cooking to be able to also cook for himself like this.

The vegetables were also well cooked tender, spiced to perfection and complemented the meat well. He smiled over at the cook, and nodded his head in appreciation. He finished his meal watching those that came in and out, and ate around him carefully. They also watched him too some warily, others with more curiosity, and still others look on him with a look of slight hatred in their eyes. His thoughts on those people were that they probably had good reason to look on his dark skin, and greyish furred body of a Zith with such contempt. It saddened him that his Zith side of him would always bring him some form of wary resentment because of the Ziths way of life. He also wasn't to proud of his Zith side, but what could he do? His mother and father had, had enough feelings for each other to bed each other and produce him. When he was finished he got up and walked back to his living quarters to sleep on a nice soft bed rather then the hard ground he had been sleeping on off and on in his travels.
