62nd Spring 514AV
Phaurd had issued a very interesting challenge the previous day, one that Azira was eager to attempt. It wasn't a challenge per say, more of a request for hides and heads of good quality, which he would pay good pinions for. Presumably he intended to use them to decorate his hunting lodge. It meant that someone had to be really good at skinning and head shots, which Azira wasn't, or good at body shots and head removals. The teen was aiming to accomplish the latter although she wasn't experienced in removing heads in a way that left them suitable for mounting. It would also mean that she'd have to go after game that was a bit bigger than her normal haul. A severed rabbit head wouldn't seem too impressive and the huntress didn't want to be laughed out of the place. It meant that she had to catch something that would be worth Phaurd's money.
She couldn't just take an animal's head though and leave the rest f it, she'd need to bring the meet back too. That limited her options unless she was willing to bring someone with her and considering how well teamwork had worked out earlier in the season she wasn't too keen on the idea. Most game would be too big for her to haul back on her own and so that left her with deer, goats or boars. A fawn, or doe was a more likely option where deer were concerned, the males likely to be too heavy for her to bring back. She doubted that Phaurd would want anything less than a stag though with its impressive antlers so that was out. She knew from experience that goats were extremely difficult to catch and that she'd probably waste more time searching for one or trying to catch up with it then actually shooting at one. That left the Avora with only one option: wild boar.
It was one that she had caught before, one that had caused her far more trouble than it was worth. She had caught one only once and it had been more luck than anything else, which had led to her not only escaping the encounter alive but also slaughtering the beast as well. It had been no easy task before but she hoped that it would be easier this time as she knew what she was getting herself into. The huntress knew how aggressive the beast was but that it was notoriously difficult to catch and so she might earn some prestige where she was at it. Phaurd would certainly like to ass a boar's head to his collection although she was sure that she'd seen one or two in his hunting lodge before. He'd take another one regardless. If she could get it, that was.
The teen had found the boar spear that she had made two seasons before, checking the wood of the shaft for any signs of damage. The branch had not cracked, or splintered, the knife at the end had not come loose but she had untied the rope that held it in place anyway and retied it to ensure that it was tight. Food for the day had been collected from the kitchens and placed in her pack along with a filled water skin. The cloth bag that she carried meat in had been cleaned out and rolled up to fit in the backpack.
The girl had left the city as Syna's rays began to kiss the slopes of Mount Skyinarta, birds flitting through the sky in search of their dawn feed. The sound of the avians was soothing, mixing into a cacophony that had become familiar to the ears of the girl thanks to her time in the Aviary. She couldn't differentiate between them but that wasn't what she was about though. She was supposed to be hunting. She allowed the noises to fade into the background, instead focusing on what way she'd go to find her boar. Goats liked higher ground but she thought that boars liked lower altitudes. That's where she'd found one the last time. The teen began to make her way further down the mountain.
