Voiding Trials

Voiding had a way of opening a number of doors that previously Annalisa Marin had not considered exploring, expanded her horizons to previously unthinkable areas. This was especially true in regards to Glyphing, that discipline from which she had made her name known in Sahova and which she was still learning more about. For the moment the tall dark haired woman had seen how very well the two disciplines could meld together, not exactly seamlessly but certainly with an increase of potency in either one. Now she was looking to find ways to weaponize the Void in her research, something that could very well increase her standing in Sahova even higher than it was already.

Arrayed before her was one rounded ston, smooth and easily fitting into the palm of her hand. The sorceress had experimented with rocks and Glyphs before, though that had been with Reimancy and it had been one of the things she had done to gain her title of Wizard. Now it was time to seek variations on the same design, ways to incorporate Voiding into a much more easily transported and thrown item. Scrolls were nice but Anna wanted to goo ever further in perfecting her art, to expand the destructive potential as far as it could go.

The sorceress carefully took up a tiny detail brush and dipped it into ink, the ink moving to stain the first stone in her hands with the symbols of her Glyphs. The tall woman was fond of writing out her Glyphs rather than engraving them out on a surface, simply because writing utensils for her were easier to get the tiny details written out. The speed of her drawing was impressive, each series of Glyphs seeming to be easily drawn with breathtaking accuracy and speed. They were less Glyphs and more works of art despite their rather plain nature of simply being stylized geometric shapes.

The first one drawn was always the Focus Glyph, a stylized inverted triangle that was purposed with containing the magic she desired to place within it. It was necessary in most sigils though Anna suspected there were some she could get away with excluding it from. Regardless the next thing to follow the Focus was generally always the Barrier in a scroll sigil like this one, a ring of stylized geometric shapes. As before the speed in which the Glyphs were drawn seemed to defy most logic, the work only a Master confident in their craft could achieve.

The Barrier finished Anna pondered over the next Glyph that was to come, the most important one in the whole design of the sigil. The Trigger Glyph, a rather touching subject all things considered as the wording of such a thing was of para-mount import as Anna’s work could be made or broken by an accidental activation from the Trigger. Not to mention the risk to her own life that was to come if such a thing activated on her own person, such would certainly detract from the overall value the Citadel might see in such a thing.

Still Anna was confident and so she placed a jumble of geometric shapes around on the opposite side of the stone from the other Glyphs. Her work was as always of superior quality, the artistry of her Glyphs making even this simple stone look rather like something much more. The tall dark haired woman’s brush teased gently along the surface of the stone, her speed certainly not lower the quality or caution of her work. Once she finished this Glyph she added words in a spiraling circle around it in common, the activation for it.

When I, Annalisa Marin the creator of this scroll on the 89th of Spring 514 AV, speak the word ‘seagull’ the Trigger will lower the Barrier, releasing the magic contained within the Focus.

With this task done Anna set her brush aside and handled the stone carefully now that she had properly finished with the Glyphs themselves. Messing with the Glyphs would be a rather poor idea as one scratch upon them could ruin the entire design and compromise the magic she was to put within. Now that she had actually finished her work though she opened her work journal and took up the brush again, adding in a new passage to the pages.

Glyphed Personal Weapon Trial #3
Date: 89th of Spring, 514 AV
Goal of Trial: Incorporate the art of Voiding into the projectile weaponry designed for Reimancy.
Presiding Wizard: Annalisa Marin
Assistants: None
Subject of Interest: A stone filled with a Void Portal.

With this task done Anna took up a vial of ink and the brush as well as her journal and the Glyphed stone and stood from her chair. This project would involve a strong use of Pull, so it was probably a rather poor idea to just use that in the Common Labs. Though she did consider the amusement factor of watching a Nuit passerby be sucked into the Void. Discarding this thought Anna set off through the Gug Andjak with the intended destination being the Prairie.

Anna arrived upon the desolate terrain of the Prairie rather without much fanfare and without incident, a blessing upon Sahova and a sign that the Wardens were very much still doing their good work in the Testing Grounds. Anna set her supplies upon a rather large rock, taking the Glyphed stone with her out a ways before setting it down on the ground and stepping back a bit. The tall sorceress took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly, her hand being out stretched over the stone as best she could put it directly over the item.

With this done the tall woman focused inwards towards the very core of her being, to that energy that made who she was and what she would and could become. She grasped at the strands of her Djed, plucking upon them in such a way that their purpose resonated through her entire being. The wavelength of her energy was moved outwards to a singular space before her hand, incantations beginning to fall from her lips as she narrowed her eyes in concentration upon the spot in the air that was seemingly without purpose.

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

“Sutla Gug. Gug Sutla.”

The Djed was tasked to empty out the space she focused upon of all matter, emptying it of everything that could actually make it possess substance in this would. Nothing happened at first as she channeled the energy to this task, but within ten ticks a rush of Djed would be drained from her body and a tiny black pinprick would form where it was intended. Djed was funneled into this black dot in the air, the tiny vortex of night devouring her vital energy greedily as it was offered up. Anna focused first upon stabilizing the Portal, making certain the Bridge between This Side and The Other Side was secure.

Once Anna was certain that it was indeed secure she feed it a steadily increasing influx of Djed, the signal being given out through the energy to cause the Portal to expand. The Vortex grew as it was fed with Anna’s vital energy, the process slow and ponderous but it managed to send a thrill of pleasure coursing down her spine. Thoughts of the devastation Voiding could cause rose in her mind, euphoric desires of sending hundreds screaming into the darkness with a wave of her hand. How very god like that would be…

Anna shook her head, keeping focus as she increased the volume of her incantations in order to keep focus upon the Portal. She would not be drawn into the pitfall of allowing herself to be consumed by casting euphoria, no, not today or ever. The Portal continued to expand steadily, the increasing size requiring more and more Djed to maintain. The sorceress handled the stress required well enough, having been acclimatized to the drain of Voiding at this point. Once it reached the height where it could consume an average man the tall woman cut off the excess Djed, maintaining it simply at that size.

With this now done she grasped again at her Djed and instead tasked it upon the Portal to generate and attractive force away from her body, the Pull itself that was granted was enough to send pebbles before it whizzing into the Portal. The addition of the Pull upon the Portal was enough to add a much larger strain upon Anna, requiring much more Djed to maintain than if she had just kept it at this normal size and completely without additional change. The dark haired woman gritted her teeth and ignored the urge whispering for her to increase the Pull even more.

With this done Anna grasped the Portal by its connection to her, willing it to lower into the Glyph within the stone beneath it. Once the Portal touched the Glyph it was consumed within the Focus, cutting off the drain to her Djed almost instantly and vanishing into the stone. Anna smirked as this task was accomplished; the Portal had been successfully stored in the Glyph which meant it was now time to test the actual use of the weapon itself.

Voiding Trials

Anna moved over to the large rock nearby where she had left her things hand opted to move them away from the area for now, this next test being rather dangerous to her things. This done she piled up a few various sized pebbles upon the stone itself, moving to the stone with the Void Portal in it and moving it slightly so that the Portal would emerge facing the pebbles. The sorceress did a once over to see how ready the whole thing was, adjusting her little project as needed. It looked rather well put together considering the circumstances, so it looked like it was time to get on with it.

The tall dark haired woman moved to where her supplies were, a safe distance away from the Voiding that was to come. Once here she crouched down, staring at the location from this range to give a few last minute checks. No project or plan often went as well as the initial theory seemed to be, there were usually some hiccups to be found along the road. Anna was hoping the Portal would be able to devour the pebbles with ease and would exit the Glyph just as potent as it had been placed. Only the test would tell if her theory was right.

“Seagull!”

The Trigger word spoken caused the Void Portal to be released directed at the pebbles upon the stone, the inky black vortex emerging well enough and fast enough. The Pull the Portal had possessed appeared to still exist as the pebbles nearby were sucked easily into the Portal and into the Void beyond. However Anna noticed something extremely peculiar about the Portal through observation of it. There was an alarming increase at the pace in which it decayed and shrunk in the air, becoming smaller and smaller much faster than most Portal did.

Finally when it winked out of existence Anna opted to step up from her position and examine the area it had existed within, the ripples in the air where the Portal had been were already fast fading. Her gaze then moved to where the pebbles had been, noting that all of them were apparently gone into the Void. The most interesting thing to Anna though had been the Portal’s behavior, how it had shrunken so very quickly when exposed this long. The Djed it must have required to exist must have been what did it in, though that raised a number of questions. Questions Anna opted to write down with her conclusions from this trial in her notes.

-The Void Portal was accepted and absorbed easily by the Focus. All operations performed as intended.
-The Portal worked at the same strength as it had been placed in with, keeping the Pull enforced upon it.
-With further refinement, this method could be just as useful as Reimancy placed inside though Reimancy at current appears to be superior.
-Also noted that the Void Portal decay rate had increased alarmingly when forced to maintain a Pull. Could it be then that additional factors will cause a Portal to collapse more quickly? If I made it too big might it starve faster when deprived of necessary Djed, would too much Pull cause it to wink out of existence much faster? Some things to test in future trials perhaps.
